    Congrats!
Good thing you upgraded your wifi card, I was not careful enough about this point and was completely let down by the basic wifi 1000.
    Enjoy !

you should be happy with the system. It really is quite nice. It will also run games fine on external monitors. I run most of my games on an external monitor without troubles.

Anyways good purchase, and i agree intel wifi link 1000 suck. only if i knew the degree of suckyness of it i wouldn't have been stingy and spent the few extra bucks.

Hehe yea, you should have. I got the 6205 and it's really quite good... You can even use your M11x as a WAP and broadcast your own wireless SSID. I use mine to extend the range of my router :D Only cost $25 too!

Do you know if it is better than the Killer? I don't know if the Killer is for gamers or if it is really the best one.

I have a Killer Wifi card but since the owner of the Wifi i use refuses to switch to N its pretty much useless. I actually went back to my stock WiFi card because i didnt notice any difference. Also, 1400 bucks for the i5? what did you get in it? At that price you may as well get the m14x

the Killer is "supposed" to be for gamers, but at the end of the day it's still wireless and a simple ethernet cable will give you better ping.

There was absolutely nothing that the Killer offered over the 6205 which i needed/wanted/was willing to pay for, so i'm very happy with my little upgrade.

I heard the Intel 1000 stock card was horrible, which is why i made sure i had an upgraded WiFi card.

The cheapest you can pick up a new M11x from Australia, without coupons or haggling, is $1599.

Yea, hence why I'm so freaking happy that i picked up my i5 M11x R3 for $680 while on holiday in the US. I got an 8GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX kit for $64 from Amazon when they were on sale, and then Dell gave me an additional $60 refund, so free RAM upgrade for me!

This system would have cost me $1,800 from Dell Australia, and more than $110 for that extra RAM kit.

$680?!!! Wow man, that is a great deal.

I wonder if a plane ticket to the US and back + ordering the laptop over there would be cheaper than ordering from Dell Austalia...

Nah, i got the absolute BASE price for my plane tickets and it still cost me $2000 return per person.

What you need to do, is have them delivery it to someone in the US who can then mail it to you (costs about another $150 for shipping to aust). Since Dell themselves will only ship to a US address.

Oh well, worth a thought ;)

Whenever I make my next purchase, I'll definitely explore that road. Just need to make some friends in the US.

This forum def kicks some butt....anyone with a m11x needs to be on this. congrats on ur purchase.

Take it from many people on here, read ahead about Whitelisting throttling/heating etc....i know the feeling of getting something, spending a lot of $ on it, then that first feeling of loading a pc game and it runs at 3fps.....or your playing for 20 minutes and ur FPS just tank. Reading a head will save you a lot of 'headache later =)

This little machine does fantastic, so enjoy!

The FPS tanking is just heating right? And what is throttling? (I know it lags your game and you use throttle-stop to stop it) Thanks!

There are also certain "mail forwarding" services in the US which give you a US shipping address which you can use for deliveries, and they will direct your mail/package to an international address for a small fee.

congratz man! prior to getting mine (previously i owned an r1), i was quite confused to as why there aren't many threads discussing problems or issues with r3, because i wanted to find out more about the r3.

when i finally got one, i realized the reason behind the lack of such threads, the r3 is surprisingly almost problem free.

Agreed, the R3 is finally the M11x flagship, result of people moaning to Dell about various R1 and R2 issues seems to have paid off.

Things I have noticed about my R3 is that the rubber foot on the chassis near the cooling fan which is impossible to replace and fell off my R1 is now made of hard rubber, thank you Dell for listening to this one! Also the screen doesn't touch the keyboard when closed and the hinges don't creak, HAPPY DAYS! :D

yep! You have happily discovered that the R3 is really a good little machine. It doesn't suffer from the issues that plagued previous versions.

There are a few minor things. But they are really pretty minor:

The sudden increase in fan noise can suprise people when they run into it. Although honestly it did not bother me at all, my normal desktop pc fans are louder even when the R3 fan is running full tilt. And that only really happens when gaming, And even for the mobile user, who is going to be gaming in a quiet classroom when they should be paying attention to the professor?

I wish alienware offered a matte version of the screen. I don't want to see my ugly mug when using the computer. Nor do I really need to see the people behind me. The glossy screens are pretty *meh* in my opinion. But that is fixable with the right screen protector available for around 15$ or so.

The back of the unit could be a little higher, as with the tiny rubber feet it doesn't really get enough airflow to properly cool the unit under heavy use. But that is easily fixable by picking up a couple of rubber sticky feet from a store and putting them at the rear bottom corners.

And finally there are a few unlucky purchasers who got a unit which was botched at the factory, a poor application of the thermal paste for example can cause issues, or a faulty component. But you face that with any computer out there.

The rest is just personal preference. I would like to have a better processor, a better video card. Even though the ones in there are quite good, I think they could be better. But still, the current R3 will play games very well. It really is the best place available in this form factor.

I am very happy with my R3 and intend to keep it for a long time.
