I've tried searching for this, but haven't had any luck yet. I'd like my M11x to turn off the keyboard lights when not plugged in to save some battery, but to be lit while plugged in for the look. Is there any way to do this? It's my first Alienware, so I haven't had any luck finding it in the settings. Thanks! :)

yes this is possible you press FN+alienFX. its near the printscreen button. it turns off all lights. or im pretty sure within alienFX manager thingy where you can change the color of the lights you can choose which zones to turn off.

I typically keep AlienFX turned off to save some CPU power, but I suppose I could do that when I needed to. I was just hoping there was an easier method that would just auto-detect when plugged in and change the colors/turn them off.

You do not need AlienFX running to have it remember the settings (it get's stored in the bios). You only need to load AlienFX when you want to change the keyboard lighting settings.

With the taskbar plugin loaded, right click on it and choose the options you want. After you choose the options just, close the plugin.

Yeah just right click and exit the alienhead after you have your settings. It'll close the FX program that chews up CPU resources.

I was hoping to have it be more automatic, turning on the lights when plugged in but off when not, without having to go through these steps. Oh well, still love the machine so far--thanks for the quick help =)

It is automatic. You just need to set it that one time with the AlienFX taskbar icon. Once you set the options through the right click just shut it down and stop the service/prevent it from loading during startup with msconfig. You can have it light up fully when connected to the outlet and disable the lights when on battery.

The setting will be saved in bios until you change it again by loading AlienFX and selecting different options.

Mostly correct. If you want it to respond to events (i.e. start flashing when you receive new email) then the manager/controller need to be running. Otherwise, it's all controlled by the AlienFX hardware controller. Your laptop can completely hard lock and it will keep flashing the zones that are flashing.
