If anyone's looking for a successful combination of hardware and software for a high speed private wireless hotspot.

Very satisfied with current combination of Telstra 4G Sierra Wireless dongle, re-broadcast using Connectify software via the Killer Wireless-N 1103 card.

Producing a High speed private wireless hotspot from my m11x.

Full bars signal strength measured (using HTC Desire) at 30 metre radius around laptop.

The 4G input appears to be re-broadcast via the Killer Wireless -N 1103 card with minimal loss of internet speed on the way.

Plus very stable connections, with auto reconnect for the odd drop-out.

Connectify uses encrypted WPA2 or WEP connections, keeps things very transparent about who's connected to the hotspot and very configurable about what they are restricted to doing.

Uses: I routinely connect 3 android smart-phones and 2 other laptops simultaneously to the private hotspot and the internet. I also share files and folders between the laptops within this hotspot.

Have not noticed much of an additional lag in browsing speed on the M11x with 5 devices connected.

On holiday recently I shared with great success and cost saving the single LAN broadband cable in our hotel room with 5 devices using my M11x, Connectify and the Killer Wireless-N 1103 card.

Note: Need Windows 7 to run a true hotspot, XP / Vista can only do ad-hoc connections with Connectify.

On an unrelated subject, if anyone's looking for a USB 3.0 thumb drive with awesome speed and capacity for their M11x. I have thoroughly road tested the Super Talent SuperSpeed RAIDDrive 64GB, 180MB/s write, 320MB/s read. Minor grumble is the stick is so wide (33mm) you can't use the second 3.0 slot when it's plugged in (extension cables are not recommended), but that's not a show stopper for me anyway as there's a 2.0 slot on the other side of the laptop. Note also that the normal operating temperature of this thumb-drive is 45 - 50 degrees Celcius (not a typo) so give it airspace when it's working hard (like streaming an HD movie).
Price was $206 Euro from Germany, (they are hard to buy if you live outside of the USA). Computer Shop, Notebook Shop and more | computeruniverse.net

I used connectify once on a trip and after initial confusion on setup it worked well. Wasn't trying what you did (wow) but it got the job done.
