Does anyone know if and where there is a newer audio driver for the M11xR2? The one listed on Dell's site (6.0.1.6083) is almost 10 months old and Realtek's website is crap.

Some how while attempting to do science I seem to have installed the following Realtek ALC665 audio driver.

    Realtek High Definition Audio

    Driver Date: 24/02/2011
    Driver Version: 6.0.1.6316
    Digital Signer: Microsoft

    It's very nice, thank you.

    Oh yes, right, the link...

    Audio: Realtek* ALC Audio Driver

It's pretty much one size does all. I checked the release notes and it does include ALC665.

I have it installed on my M11xR1 and it's not not working. Or should I say, it's working. :D

Haven't tested every option but no show stoppers yet. Nothing to suggest that it doesn't work.

Remember backups and restore points before any system changes. And make sure you have a copy of the original Realtek HD audio driver you're using.

And you didn't read any of this, it came to you in a dream.

Any chance on this being able to work with the R1 also? Or is this driver just for the R2?

my r2 came with stock driver, I can't remember the exact version of it. but it had the annoying audio popping / cracking noise, I then installed the driver from dell's site, fixed that problem.

then out of blue, I wanted to update my audio driver to the latest from realtek site. guess what, the audio popping cracking noise is back, and it's driving me nuts. I uninstall-ed it, rolled back to dell's...well, the damn popping problem stays.. sigh

Sorry, little programming humor there. XOR, NOR, NAND etc...

What I should have said was.

I installed the Realtek HD audio driver ALC665 from Intel on my Alienware M11xR1(Revision 1) C2D SU7300 and it worked!

When the M11x R1 (Revision 1) first came out the ALC665 driver did have some issues. However I've not heard of any problems with the later ALC665 drivers in either the M11x R1(Revision 1) or the M11x R2(Revision 2)

    Have you tried ALC655 6.0.1.6316 ?

When my ears are not bleeding from using a pair of Sennheiser PX 100-II headphones the audio sounds fine and I have no 'crackling' or 'popping'.

As I'm aware, HDMI and DisplayPort audio on an M11x R1(Revision 1) use Nvidia supplied audio and not Realtek HD Audio ALC665. I can be corrected if I'm wrong.

Not that I can tell, mind I didn't read all the release notes.

Did not have a problem with the previous version, I just liked the look of a higher version level :)

Assuming you're using an M11x R2(Revision 2) your build may have revised Realtek HD Audio drivers newer than those available in February 2010.

But for you, who cares, if you're happy and nothing is broken, what is there to fix. :D

Other than the first Dell update of the February 2010 original Realtek HD Audio driver provided by Dell, I've never heard of any improvements or new functionality to speak of anyway.

If someone knows of something new/fixed or taken the time to read the release notes :) lettuce know.

If it aint broke DONT FIX IT!! ..I tried an update on my R2 and although it worked, pulling the headphones out or plugging them in would sometimes cause audio to come from speakers and headphones, or skype to ring from the speakers and talk on the headphones.. lots of inconsistant results.. the default drivers are tuned to the mx11 setup, and work fine..
