Hello there..
I got a little issue with my M11X R2 playing League of Legends. So I'm running graphic driver 275.33, which most people already do see as a problem actually.. how ever I'm running it on highest graphics which gives me 40 fps.. but sometimes my Framerate suddenly breaks off and I have to play with 5 fps for like 10 minutes, until the full performance suddenly comes back.
I got overclocking turned on in my BIOS, if that makes any difference..
I really appreciate your help,
thanks!

Check and make sure that in every section (AlienFX, Powerplan, stuff like that) You have it set to high performance. It sounds like it is throttling.
Normal things to check for that are:
1) To check your temperatures while running it (A program that can check max temperatures so that you can just check after the game and see what they got up to is good.).
2) Unclock everything and run the game and see what if it happens. Video drivers crashing will cause that effect, however it will not just end you have to restart the computer to fix it so it does not sound quite like that.
3) Make sure it is in full power mode and that you adjust all power settings to max.
4) Check other games and see if the problem is specific to LoL or if it is across the board.
5) Also make sure you have white-listed the 4 or so exe files that LoL uses.
I run LoL on my r2 at 40-50 FPS under all circumstances with no problems on the 275.33 drivers, so I assume it is a setting or something on yours. Hope one of these things helps, let me know. -
I did some tests about that issue, also happens to my r2.
The game is poorly optimized as you should know so it makes the machine go at very high temps so it throttles itself down and happens exactly what you said, the framerate drops.
So far i know two solutions, one is using ThrottleStop to avoid the system to drop the framerate, but making the r2 hotter, or just turn off the shadows in the game, the FPS would be about 43-45 and would run cooler and without framerate drops.
I tested all this with no overclock and running replays of matches that lasts for one hour or so.
Anyway if someone knows some another solution i would love to hear -
I overclock my CPU to 180 using setpll and I run my GPU at 550/1320/800. I have not replaced the stock thermal paste. I use a table and have the laptop up in the air to give it better airflow.
I use Throttlestop at max capabilities and run the game on the highest settings I can with the "Benchmark" setting for FPS cap. 75 is the max I see my temperatures go on any part.
Temps can cause the problem, that is why I asked him to check them, however many other things can cause the problem. I'm overclocked to hell and I do not see this issue in any game, including LoL.
Hopefully we can see what the issue is when he gets back to me. -
Schlumpfpirat: If you're not yet using ThrottleStop, now's a good time to start.
To maximize your CPU performance, it's a must for the M11x-R2. -
Thanks for the replys so far!

How about try reading a single post.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/524257-how-supercharge-m11x-core-i5-i7-um-cpus.html
If you can't read, follow the pictures. A couple of minor adjustments can make a big difference to how your CPU runs. Send your questions my way if you need some help getting this setup. The ThrottleStop Info box includes my email address since you're probably not allowed to send private messages yet.
How much overclocking are you using in the bios? There have been reports on the R2 that overclocking in the bios without using ThrottleStop can make your CPU run slower when fully loaded because it will reduce the amount of turbo boost. -
HahaI'm able to read and I yeah.. this threat only got few text, so I'm fine with that.
I think I'm running with 150 or 180.. something around that.
Would you be so kind to private message me your email, since I've been looking everywhere and just can't find it? - I have to be blind or sth..
If you want I can just post my problem here aswell, just don't know if Moderators are whiny about a littlebit off threat or not. -
If you click on the ThrottleStop icon in the system tray when the program is running, there is a menu option called About...
The ThrottleStop email address is in the box that pops up. Unfortunately it is against forum policy #182, No posting email addresses, so you will have to go looking for it.
If you make some more posts, sooner or later your PM privileges will be turned on and you can also contact me that way.
After reading the first post in the Supercharge thread, post a picture or two of how you have ThrottleStop setup. By setting the CPU TDP setting to 30, that alone can make a significant difference to the CPU throttling that these CPUs are designed to do. Run ThrottleStop with the Log File option checked and upload the ThrottleStopLog.txt file to MediaFire so I can have a look at how your CPU was running while you are gaming. If there are any obvious slow downs then make a note of what time they occurred so I can compare that to the time in the log file to see if there was any CPU throttling going on.
The highest overclock allowed in the bios is 166 so you probably weren't at 180. -
Thanks. I messaged you.
So for everyone else, does anyone have this problem aswell, that when you tab down League of Legends and you tab it back up that it sometimes crashes saying you're not on the latest graphic driver? -
Go into the TDP/TDC window and change that from 11 / 11 to 30 / 30. After that click on OK.
On the main ThrottleStop screen click on Turn On.
The screen shot you sent me shows the base clock (BCLK) speed at the default of 133.0 MHz. If you are overclocking in the bios, it is not working so check that out. The R2 has a bug where sometimes the overclock you set in the bios is randomly reset when you get to Windows. You will need to check out what speed your CPU is running at each time you boot up until you figure out if your laptop has this issue.
At default settings, these CPUs are not very powerful. Many of the Core i5 CPUs have no problem running reliably when fully overclocked in the bios.
You can leave C1E and EIST checked. Checking Set Multiplier is usually optional on this model. -

Happened to me. Had to rollback drivers to get it to work but now other things are running poorly. I swear it's impossible to find a driver that does everything well.
-
Yeah, same thing here.. REALLY annoying, sometimes my computer just straight up locks up but I think my motherboard/GPU might just be going bad ><
@Battleaxe19: Which driver did you roll back to? -
Hhmm...I play LoL for hours straight and it still runs smooth as butter. I run it all stock with my m11xR3. Never even bothered to change any settings or Over clock it. Not sure if you need to do some tweaks for the m11xR2.
I can also Alt-Tab in and out of the game. No issues whatsoever.
No OC, no third party software required. When I used to own the m11xR2, I had to run it with Throttle stop....but with the m11xR3, I found throttle Stop was not required. But, to be fair, I did not play LoL when I owned the m11xR2, but I did find that Throttle Stop did help with some other games...just not all.
Hope you can resolve your issue. -
I can run LoL fine with all the settings on the highest, with 40-50 FPS. I think it would be the GPU that would be the bottleneck, I'm not quite sure though. I hope they come out with some new drivers soon though because every one I have tried has some problem..

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
Try unlocking the framrate by choosing the benchmark setting in the video settings---> frame rate cap option. I still get dips, but a majority of the time I am fine.
