So the reason for this thread, as a new poster/researcher into m11x, the whole forum seems to be dominated by problem threads. Obviously, as everyone is looking for a solution.

But how about a thread for people who have had no major issues with their computer, and are still over the moon with it.

Think I would have felt much better about my order if there was one when I first logged on.

A pool would be tremendously more effective. This is useless and cumbersome.

What are you looking at? Is there anything competitive from another brand worth checking out? Or are you waiting for a potential R3?

@Thx - I ordered a m15x about 11 days ago and it arrives tomorrow. Basic I3 with 5850 and I will install the SSD in it first thing and squirt a fresh OS install as soon as I unbox it. Then.. it's off to the races to see what a basic cpu + 5850 can do.

    3 Facts:

1- It's not a true core i7, which makes me sad.
2- The video card was a disapointment, but at the same time, I smacked myself because it's a glorified 10" netbook/notebook, I can't be expecting quad SLI!
3- I still love it! Best laptop buy I've ever had!

    Happy with M11x? Depends...
Performance? Big yes (runs well and cool, and it is a R1).
    Screen? So so (too glossy).
Touchpad? It could have better buttons in my opinion (and metal finishing).
Built quality? Ah, those damn hinges...

Things that could be better about the R2:

    1) higher stock CPU and turboboost (1.2Ghz is bleh).

    2) bigger screen (at least 12'').

    3) Would like the 2 USB ports to be on the LEFT side, not the RIGHT. The recommended external DVD drive takes 2 USB ports forcing me to always plug it on the right side, then with my gaming mouse I have to wrap around the USB cord and plug it in on the left side. :-|

    4) Better cooling. It gets really hot, even under typical non-gaming usage. Wouldn't call it a laptop if it's gonna burn your thighs.

    5) Needs more driver/app updates to iron out a few bugs. Hopefully in time, Alienware will iron them out.

Other than that, I still love it. Got exactly what I expected.

M11xR1 - Me love you long time.

Eventually it'll become un-hinged due to too much loving and there will be a moment of sadness and then the loving will be gone. You pay now!!!

But given my buying constraint is that it must be less than 12" [wide], there is still nothing in the CPU/GPU package to replace it.

If the trend to off-load media on the GPU continues the life of even an M11xR1 should be reasonable.

@stevenxowens792 - M15x Intel® Core i3 350M (2.26GHz/3MB cache) just seems wrong. Sort of like giving a Gorilla a handbag with a Chihuahua in it.
    Extreme way to escape Optimus.
Mind, I'd still be calling him MR Gorilla when he holds an AMD mobile HD 5850 in the other hand, respect.

No Chihuahuas were harmed in the writing of this post....much

I love it. I previously used a netbook. It was great for portability and battery life. but I got tired of playing 10+ year old games. I researched powerful netbooks with backlit keyboards and it led me to the newly released M11xR2 pretty quick. I few days later I bought it and never looked back.

The hinge issue concerns me, but I got the 3 year warranty a couple of weeks after it arrived so that should ensure the hinge never breaks (I have that kind of luck with warranties). I hope I don't eat my words later, but so far it has done everything I have asked. Whenever Optimus has missed a game. I just add it to the whitelist and it works. This does not bother me at all. In fact, I like being able to choose when Optimus activates by setting it up once for the different programs I use and then forgetting about it.

    I really do love it.

@goodvibes - i have a plan.. I want to see if the mb that comes with the i3 is TME locked. If not I will play, benchmark and save... the 920xm is now 380 on ebay. This means I save almost 600-700 bones buy purchasing the i3 and then installing my privately purchased 920xm.

So yes.. the gorilla will be paired with a lion eventually... I can only do so much before my wife starts giving me the "you really want me to divorce you" look...

    Take care,

    stevenX

ps.. I will let you guys know what the very basic i3 does with the 5850.

I'm pretty satisfied with my M11x so far. It's just as DrGoodvibes said, there's no other machine in the size range with a comparable CPU+GPU package. I wasn't even able to find to find too many models 14" or lower with decent CPU+GPU package since most of em are only equipped with the integrated Intel GPU.

Overall I love my M11x R2, despite having problems with three screens. I have yet to find something this small that has so much gaming power, and it makes traveling so much more fun.

I have the M11x R1 and I'm in love with mine too! It is perfect size, runs the games I play very very well, and I can pick it up and take with me anywhere.

I HATE worrying about the damn hinge issue though, if it weren't for that I would be 100% in love! It is still the best laptop I have ever owned!

No complaints so far (feverishly knocks on wood!). Plays every game that I want it to play and does everyday tasks faster than my previous 15" HP did. Also still in the state of my relationship with it that I find myself lovingly staring at it too often ...

I agree. I originally got it just for the KB (backlit, and seemed a worthy replacement of my trusty M1210's KB), but the GPU (just tested it in a few rounds of SC2 with my friends last night :)) is really a boon, too!

So 24 hours, and still loving the beast! I don't know what people are moaning about. the hinges seem fine, touch wood, the screen is top class, and everything else is just beyond that.
Only game I have been playing all day is RUSE, but it runs like a dream, and looks absolutely amazing.

Also very impressed by the speakers, very good sound for such a small system.

Honestly, anyone who is on the fence about getting one, just do it!
