Looking at the long list of M11x owners with hinge issues, I figured it was only fair to make a list of owners that haven't had any issues with their hinges.

Owners without hinge issues, post when your M11x was built and any notes you can regarding your hinges and usage (leaving it on a desk, carrying it everywhere, etc). The thread with owners that have had hinge issues is a little unsettling for new and potential owners, so let's see who hasn't had any problems with their M11x and figure out whether having hinge issues puts you in the minority or the majority of active Notebook Review users.

    1. discothan Plugged in 24/7 with the screen open, R1 purchased from Best Buy in March.

    2. Bushman87 Carries everywhere, purchased from Dell in May.

    3. filmm Carries occasionally, owned it for a month.

Wait....isn't there a thread on this already?

No issues on hinge, but I keep mine plugged in 24/7 and screen open/lcd off.

M11xR1 bought from Best Buy back in late March '10.

Wouldn't this list be misleading since the hinges may be fine at the time of posting, but may break in the near future? Which then people would go to "List of Owners of M11x That Have Hinges Damaged or Repaired Already" and end up having their names on both lists. Don't add me by the way, had mine replaced 2 weeks ago.

Then I guess I'll have to keep up with the list of users with hinge issues. This list is really just to figure out what the majority of Notebook Review users' experiences are with their M11x. In the hinge issue thread, everybody posting has a different time at which their hinge broke, so users could compare that list to this and say "hey, look at all the people at 8 months with theirs who haven't had issues (yet)."

Had mine for about 6 months now. Carry it everywhere I go. I still leave the white cloth between the screen and the keyboard. Bought from dell in May 2010.

Owned for 1mth, hinges have no current issues. Very careful, use only on a flat surface and will carry to places occasionally.

..However, my screen does touch the keyboard and if you stare at the hinges, the left side is shifted far more to the right.

I'll try and get a pic up soon.

Best of luck that your hinges don't break, but it sounds like it may be a "ticking bomb." Would anybody recommend filmm to try to adjust their hinges themself?

9 months of ownership, right hinge is a little loose - always has been. M11x placed on a desk, rarely carried. I've been excessively careful; only opening the lid from the middle of the screen and only to a 90-100deg arc.

Bought an R2 about 5 months ago. Immediately plugged in an external keyboard and 23" monitor and treated it like a desktop system. I think the laptop screen has been opened a grand total of twice (once when I first unboxed the unit, and another to see what color the keys were lit with). No problems :)

Well... I've only been using my Alienware m11x R2 for three months.
No hinge issues so far and the gaps are pretty even too.
I carry mine everyday to the university.

Hopefully mine stays as it is.

Most People w/o hinge issues will not post because they are not motivated, don't get me wrong a few might care and post but the majority of people that are only motivated are the ones with hinge issues since they want this resolve. Real Talk
