Anyone have their notebooks since they were released and have not had hinge issues?
-
Me! But have only had for 2 weeks now so hardly counts! lol Hoping I will be one of the lucky ones though! Hey - it could happen!
-
Me too, but I have it since mid august, to be on the safe side I got the 3 yr warranty ... I do hope that I would not have to use it
-
I ordered my r2 days after it came out. Got it June 30, still running fine (knock on wood... wait, I have a black cat. who cares about superstition
)
-
I have my m11x R2 since July 28. No physical problems with my m11x. Everything is allright.
-
I've used my R1 at LEAST once a day since early June, and no hinge issues at all. Haven't had any problems with it at all, actually. I've been running it overclocked since I took it out of the box, and have recently been playing 3-4 hour sessions of Civ V, Medal of Honor, and Left 4 Dead 2 on it. Not a crash or hiccup. This is one of the best pieces of electronics I've ever bought!
-
I use my R1 every day. I've had it since June and it has no hinge problems.
-
Mine is solid as a rock.
For now... -
Got my R2 at the end of July, still working great!
UPDATE (1/2/2011) - It is now about 6 months since I got the machine, there are absolutely no signs of breaking/squeaking hinges. Good laptop!!! -
Mine has been flawless as well so far. Nice to see some June units free of Hinge issues...
-
I'v had my R1 unit since early April, maybe even may.. Hard to remember. Either way, I use my R1 alot, every day. Have had 0 issues. Maybe I'm lucky. But theres prolly a silent majority out there.
-
Had mine since 7/20 no creak, no noise, no nothing, solid as a brick.
-
R2 here, no problems whatsoever. I love the beast. I've had it about 3 months.
-
Had mine since the beginning of April. Wow, over six months.
Still going 'strong' with no visible problems or system issues. (Touch wood..opps meant plastic)
Mind, the chanting and sacrifices to the Gods all the time is beginning to be a bit too much. How many Moi does one need to build and it's not like we've got a big section and the neighbors are complaining about them shading their houses.
Knowing my luck the Gods will turn against me the day after the warranty expires. Ha! Gods aye, what are they like. -
No casing problems here. Got mine in mid august.
-
no issues here.

Got mine when it first showed up at my best buy, so 5 or 6 months ago and the hinges are still strong, knock on wood. I use it everyday for taking notes and gaming and I've had no issues.

I've had my R1 since early March and no hinge problems so far.
-
No hinge problems on my R1 since April.
-
Had an R1 since early march and hinges still intact. A lot of movement, but no breakage yet.
-
I've had mine for 2 months now. i carry it every day to school and use it in almost every class, which means that i open/ close it almost constantly throughout the day( of course i always keep in mind to open it by holding the center of the lid). no problems yet. and so far i've had a very good experience. my m11x came within 6 days-- with regular ground shipping, mind you!-- and i live in southern california, so im by no means close to the factory. on top of that, its balance of performance and portability is perfect for a student like me!
EDIT: M11x R2 -
Been using my Alienware m11x R2 for three months now.
No hinge issues so far although the right gap is a tiny bit larger than the left.
Hopefully my hinge stays as good as it is in the future ! -
I have my M11x since October - no hinge issues as of the present moment. I mostly keep the laptop on my desk with its lid open - so I do not open/close it a lot. The lid seems well-aligned, both the front side and the back side of the laptop do not look suspicious. The hinge gaps are virtually similar. In its closed state the lid rests on both rubber insets provided for support.
My keyboard touches the screen though - no doubt of that - so whenever I need to close the lid - I use the white felt inlay the unit was shipped with. -
Had mine since September 2010, travel a lot internationally with it, never had an issue, and OC it anytime its plugged in
-
I have had mine since the middle of august.. I have had no issues so far
.
-
Had my R2 since mid June. Squeaky hinges, but otherwise OK. I open/close my lid perhaps 30 times a day every day. No point in babying it while the warranty is in effect.
-
Is this one of those tempt fate threads? I have had my R1 for 2.5 months and no problems so far but that gap at the hinge is characteristic so lucky that I have extended warranty!
-
R1 no problems daily usage 3+ months
-
I have 3 months with my R2 and works perfect
-
R1 a week it came out. Clickety but no issues. Daily use. Proud of my little machine of awesomeee...
-
Dispute my railing against the machine, I am yet to have a single problem.
Now 10¼ months old. Lid open/close every day.
Still waiting for Dell to offer some assistance in making the hinge mounts more robust as I'm not sure mine'll fair any better in the long term than those who have already had theirs fail. -
Got mine Aug 16 and so far so good. But now that I have said that.......
-
a reminder, lets stay on topic - meaning, this thread is for owners who have NOT had a problem with there hinge. further OT posts will be removed.
thanks. -
I've got and R2 and the wifey has an R1 no problems to speak of on either..
-
I have an R2 since release and no problems here
-
I've had my R2 since November. No hinge issues (yet). One thing that bothers me............excessive palmrest vibration, probably from the 7200 HDD. In fact the whole laptop vibrates slightly all the time. It was almost a dealbreaker for me, but I decided to try and get used to it. Anyone else notice the vibration? Is it time for an SSD?
-
It's the 7200 drive. Some do it more than others. An SSD would obviously have none at all. Whether that's a good solution for you depends on your specific storage priorities. Capacity, money, speed, comfort in whatever order.

Of course, it would always be a lot cheaper plus give you more options for disk space to buy a 5400rpm HDD. You can easily find the brands that reportedly are the quietest/vibrate the least.
-
i have an R2 since they were having the free i7 upgrade a long while ago, still no problems here.
-
Purchased my Alienware M11x R2 over christmas and I have had no hinge issues whatsoever.
-
-
have had my m11x for over 6 months and not a problem with the hinges (crossing fingers).
-
10½ months and no problems thus far.
Thinking of building a little shrine in the corner of the room so I can pray to the Gods of hinges for blessings and appeasements. -
i wish there was a failure rate for the hinges on this nifty little netbook!
-
My M11x-R2 was shipped on 10/25/10. Almost 3 months old with no hinge issues.
-
Ordered my m11x r2 in august and received it towards the end of the month. counting from sept till present that's about 4 months ish. No hinge problems yet.
-
I use my M11x a lot, everyday, since about 6 months, and don't have any signal of hinge problem.
Good luck to you people that have this problem.
