Hey Guys, I just downloaded the new benchmark for Lost Planet 2 and have been running a few tests.
So far...
DirectX 9.0c
-1360x768
-Vertical sync = On
-Anti-Aliasing = MSAA2X
-Motion blur = On
-Shadow detail = Low
-Texture detail = High
-Rendering Level = High
Test A:
Rank = B
Average = 34.2fps
Test B:
Rank = C
Average = 24.2fps
The first test ran very well and the game looks really nice. The second level didn't run as well and was a bit more taxing (probably due to the dirty big monster)![]()
I'm wondering if anyone else has downloaded the benchmark and given it a shot. I'd like to see your scores.
P.S. I'm also OCed to 160 with TB on.
I own Lost Planet 2 on PS3 and contrary to many reviews, I really enjoyed it!
On a different note...
I have a question regarding DirectX 11. When I try to run the benchmark with DirectX 11, I get an error saying it failed to initialize DirectX 11. I've downloaded the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft site but I still receive the error. Anyone be able to help me out?
Thanks.

The Nvidia 335M graphics card is not a directx 11 card. Thats why you got the error.

-
I'm downloading it right now and will run the test and report back the result in a bit !
-
With the same settings you have, I'm getting the following results:
Test A:
Rank = C
Average = 29.9fps
Test B:
Rank = C
Average = 24.3fps
Which is weird, damn these benchmarks -
i'm downloading, i'll be back soon to show my score
-
Rypac, you were having problems on Mafia 2, were you able to increase your frame rates on medium settings ?
-
scene A: 30.4 Rank B
scene B: 19.6 Rank C
after this process, the left side of touchpad was quite hot (i mean really hot, much hotter than I was playing Dirt2)... temp of CPU and GPU just around 58c
-
Alienowner, Yeah I never got around to giving those other drivers ago, too busy downloading Lost Planet 2...
The framerates improved a little in the Mafia II benchmark, about 20fps average on medium.
When I was playing the demo though, they felt a lot higher. It was really smooth and i reckon they would have been more then 30fps.
Considering it played so well I don't think I'll upgrade from the 258.96 drivers just yet. -

Reminder - Sometimes when you update or install a new driver you may want to completely remove the old driver (uninstall in control panel, remove with ccleaner or driver remover) then install new. This way you know you are getting a clean driver installation.

You can't hold much stock to these benchmarks. I guess the only thing you can say is that you are LIKELY to be able to play the game. At what levels and settings is a guess until the real thing is released. Here is my first bench, cpu oc, gpu @ 550/1320/850, settings in screenshot. I am going to run again with higher shadows rather than AA. My preference is shadows over AA... BW, stevenX
<edit> I set shadows @medium and cost me approx 1.5 to 2.0 average on maps. Example scene b average was 31.7...<edit>
<edit> Shadows @high, so all settings on high, no aa, grade was C with 25.7 avg fps. Shadows look amazing on high but probably too large of a cost between medium and high. <edit>
<edit>last edit here... I really want to see a dx10 bench like the older lost planet, extreme. The drivers we use are geared more toward dx10 optimization. In most games I get higher performance with dx10 and therefore hope the game has dx10 as an option. <edit>
<edit> The second bench or bench 2 (bench B) wasn't actually initiating ... so I finally got the second bench or bench b to run. Average fps 21.5. Sorry to any misunderstandings.. this is my bad and I dont know why the bench didn't work properly. The posted benches must be for both bench A (Bench 1). <edit>

@Steven: what drivers are you using? You have +10FPS on test B which is ridiculous

I am on 258.96 I have several threads on optimization and i would advise everyone to do so for max performance. bw, stevenx

Performed complete un-install of 258.96, registry cleaner and install of 259.32 (dell desktop driver with updated inf file to allow installation). No difference in benchmarks at all. Both this bench and Arma 2 OA. no difference.
Best Wishes, StevenX -
i have previously scan thru the drivers it does not seems to have optimus support still yet. if you looking for 259.xx version there is one posted with optimus support which is 259.22 on this forum. -
For some reason this benchmark is giving me problems. I cannot go over 25 in test B and 30 in test A. I have 8.2k+ on 3dmark2006 and usually score 38-40FPS in that Mafia 2 benchmark on medium settings.
Though I kind'a let go of this, both dragon age and borderlands run great on this thing so that's all I need for now. -
Hi i was wondering, I have the latest dell Nvidia driver for my R1 Alienware. I do plan on upgrading to a new M11x once they do a graphic card upgrade, but until then I was wondering if you guys can refer me to a thread that explains how I can do the inf config with the latest Nvidia files???
Thank You so much and sorry for thread stealing if I did
Btw
The Avg frame rate @ native resolution with 1.73 OC and Stock Video card clocks is 22 fps @ high everything, v sync off and AA off.
Re did the test and managed 38 fps shadows low but these tests don't tell much, I mean sometimes he looks at a wall for god knows how long and other times he's being spammed with bullets where ur frames are cut in half, its a good way to see your worst and base case scenario, but its def not a good comparison benchmark. -

@liquid - go to NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com
Go to driver you want
download driver
download modified inf
extract driver
copy inf that you downloaded to the extracted driver folder
install driver
reboot
configure nvidia performance to desired state
Game On

@GadgetBoi - Looks great. Like i mentioned before I think the main purpose of these benchmarks is an overall assurance that you can run the game.
Glad to see others are scoring in the 30s and the I7's are performing right where they should be 3-4fps higher than R1.
BW, StevenX -
Thank u very much! -
Do you guys use
"Let the 3D application decide"
or
"Nvidia controlled settings" ? -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
@Liquid - This is for the R1 only. It does impact the switchable graphics, meaning you can have it set to discrete only to use this type of driver.
@Alienowner -I usually leave it at let the 3d app decide unless I see performance or evidence to change it.
Thanks,
StevenX -

I know others really like using dx9 for some reason but the newest drivers cater to dx11 and dx10 (and 10.1). Best wishes, StevenX

I'm on R1 with 197.72 drivers and I have already run through several optimizations on this machine. I've disabled stuff like the facial recognition, all unnecessary startup programs, and I ran through Black Viper's services tweaks and applied most of them. Here are the numbers I'm getting right now, any suggestions on improving these? My test B is horrible!

@Sorry All.. I thought I completed bench 2 (or bench B). Some reason when I click on it it still runs the first benchmark. I finally got the second bench to work. I only scored 21.5 on the fps score. This is my bad and you have my apologies... I wil update my original post. Thanks, StevenX
-
Maybe test 2 is more CPU dependent?
-
For me test B was okay until the very end, the frame rate took a dive in the last 10-15 seconds. Below are the test descriptions.
From the Benchmark description on guru3d
"Test A
The primary purpose of Test A is to give an indication of typical game play performance of the PC running Lost Planet 2. (i.e. if you can run Mode A smoothly, the game will be playable at a similar condition). In this test, the character’s motion is randomized to give a slightly different outcome each time.
Test B
The primary purpose of Test B is to push the PC to its limits and to evaluate the maximum performance of the PC. It utilizes many functions of Direct X11 resulting in a very performance-orientated, very demanding benchmark mode." -
Hey thanks man
it looks like I'll be sticking to stock for now since I use this for school
-
I'm sorry if this has been asked a million times but what is the best way to install the latest drivers for the 335m? I have searched but I don't know if some of these methods are specific to R1/R2. I have an R1. Thanks in advance!
