The fan on my M11X (BIOS R05) is always running, despite being on Intel graphics, and CPU utilization being at <10% when idle. My memory usage is around 20%.

Will turning off Overclock make the CPU run cooler, and perhaps make the fan not run so much?

I wish there was some way to throttle this thing. When I had a MacBook Pro, I downloaded a program called SMC that allowed you to control the fan speed. Though the temperatures rarely got out of order, the fans would always run at 5000RPM... comparable to a vacuum cleaner.

Mine only gets loud when I play ARMA on it. But using headphones mutes that. Are you gaming when they rpm up?

Re: Loud Fan... "HELLO I THINK YOU'RE LOVELY!!!".

Sorry, stopped the medication over Christmas.

    You're explaining the BIOS A01 - A03 symptoms, but on a BIOS A05. Odd.

Turning off CPU over-clocking on the M11xR1 wont change anything as it doesn't add to the heat. It's only the Nivida GPU that heats things up..a bit.

If one restarts the M11xR1 with it already switched to IGP (Integrated Graphics Processor), the fan shouldn't kick in for ages.

If however when switched to IGP and the fan starts up almost as soon as the system starts up... then there's a problem.

What temperature is the system running at?

There is much debate on which temp. monitor to use and the correction values, but I use HWMonitor and it does closely follow the fan switching thresholds. Sorry UncleWebb, I know I should listen in class.

CPU fan kicks in when temp reaches 50C and stops when temp is below 40C again.

GPU fan kicks in when temp reaches 50C and stops when temp is below 40C again as I remember, but could be 45C.

Check there is nothing restricting the air intake on the base of the M11xR1.

Some people use 'coasters' to give a bit more height for better air circulation.

Mind, the M11x is known for it's ' cool running' and probably more people get their tongue stick to the iced surface of the M11xR1 when they're licking it, than get burnt... Oh, is that just me ...again.

Defrag'ing (Piriform) the HDD on my M11x uses approx 30% CPU and fan switches on and off within the 40C - 50C range. More off than on.

I have the Nvidia GPU on too, just in case I couldn't get the fan to kick in.

25C and 88% humidity outside and the max temp the M11xR1 reports while HDD defrag'ing is 49C, but most of the time it's set at ~43C with the fan off.
AND when it does come on, it's just idling the fan and you'd have to put your hand behind the unit or your ear to it to detect it.

When heavy gaming the fan gets a bit more agressive.

So in summary, we have an M11xR1 with BIOS A05 and the fan continues to run with no background processes and Nvidia GPU disabled.

    Doesn't sound right.
