Coming from a m11x r1 with 2gb...I saw my laptop struggling to play games like starcraft....so I decided to buy 4gb of ram from newegg...I was about to do it...when I received a 15% discount coupon from them...so I bought 8gb of ram Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ for $67.86. Since the Bios will set the speed of the ram to a default 800mhz...I though this was the best option for me.
I run 3Dmark hoping to reach at least the 6800 mark...but my mark was 6457...a 10 points increase...since the last time I run it(with 2gb). So...an increase of ram memory does not affect the 3dmark score at all? or I'm missing something???

you wont notice a difference in anything that doent need more than 2gb or ram.

its like saying someone could be smarter if then had more short term memory. but all they have to do is add small 2 digit math problems. they would never use anymor than normal.

so while you might see a small difference inSC2. you wont in 3Dmark.

3dmark06 is most affected by cpu and gpu. You could run 3dmark06 several times and get different scores each time.

I would ask that you not worry about a 10 point increase or decrease. Video drivers alone can cause differences of several hundred points.

Good luck and congrats on the Ram.

thanks guys so much...I was really worry about it...cuz I though I would have a major gain by adding 8gb(2x4gb btw)....but...I guess the only thing I can do is overclocking my GPU....or buying a m11x R2...

    once again

    thanks

Adding RAM won't directly help your 3D frame rate (and 3dmark score), but if for instance, you're having issues b/c your machine is spending it's time on tasks like switching out programs or data into virtual memory then it will certainly help.

And just because your 3dmark scrore didn't go up though doesn't mean your games won't perform much better. I'd say try it out and then see if you have a better experience with the ram added.

Some_guy said it perfectly, with a surprisingly accurate analogy. Just an FYI so you don't get caught off guard in the future, RAM stands for Random Access Memory, so saying RAM memory is definitely a memo for the Department of Redundancy Department.

Starcraft will be gated by your CPU performance. Its probably one of the only few games that the R1 will strugle with.
