    Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster. The past few days my Alienware won't start up. I hit the power button and it lights up plus I can hear the fan engage, but the computer does not boot up. The screen stays black and the Alienware head by the keybaord blinks. It used to beep when it blinked, but that has stopped. I tried putting in a new hardrive, but the problem persists.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Scratch that--now that the battery has been charged up I get 8 beeps. Nothing comes up on the laptop's screen, however (not even an Alienware logo) and nothing appears on an external monitor plugged into the laptop via the HDMI port.

Yep, thank you. I tried plugging the computer into an extra monitor but the same error occurs.

It could be failure of the graphical adapter or anything between it and the LCD.. Did you try all the video out ports? The HDMI and the Display Port? it might help localize your problem.

I recall reading somewhere on these forums that the laptop will not start properly if the LCD assembly is non functional, disconnected, or does not register as connected, and would do this even when a perfectly workable screen was connected through HDMI or VGA. I'll have to do some digging to see if I can find it. However, judging by the beep code, my money is still on the LCD failure.
