I am trying to hook up my m11x to my Sony Bravia V52 but it gives me the following error message:
"Unsupported signal. Please check device output."
I tried switching the main display to the TV and now when I hook up my m11x the screen is completely black but there's nothing showing on the TV so now I can't even reverse it back to the way it was.
Everything works fine when I hook up my Dell XPS 13 so I know its not the TV. Please help.

Just because it's not mentioned, I'm going to make sure you have your discrete GPU switched on--HDMI only works when the 335m is working.
-
I am not sure - how do I do this?
-
Do you have the R1 or R2? If it's the R1, you hit FN + F6 to switch to dedicated GPU. If it's the R2...I have no idea how to get the HDMI port to work for a TV.
-
I've got the R2 - Core i5, 4gb ram, etc. Sucks because I need to hook the lappie up for an upcoming presentation. I just spent 3 hours on the phone with Alienware; the rep couldn't figure out the problem so he three-wayed me with a rep from Sony and she couldn't figure it out either. Stuck!
-
Thanks anyways GiSS.

I dont have mine yet but isnt there a lit of programs that you can set to force the 335m to be used. Maybe try setting powerpoint or whatever presentation software you are using in that list so that it activates the 335m.

So I have a R2 and it works on my Sony Bravia XBR2 over HDMI. The only thing I did to get it to work was press "windows" key + "P" and a screen pops up to give you some options on what to output to. Then I just select projector and it shows up on the screen.
The only weird thing was that it didn't scale right, that is the desktop was larger than what my tv can display. So I went to the intel graphics menu to scale the output.
Remember this is optimus, so the display is driven by the integrated graphics. The nVidia just copies it to the frame buffer -
Try set the resolution being output over HDMI to 1280x720x60hz or 1920x1080x60Hz, if not those then something lower.

I have an M11xR1 and have successfully connect to a Sony BRAVIA KLV-40V300A (40" HD-Ready 1336x768) via HDMI.
This is not a Full-HD LCD TV.
Bit concerning that both Alienware and Sony together have not provided an answer as these would be the go to guys.
Do you have any other HDMI display devices that you could test with the M11xR2. (Given cable and TV both work)
With Optimus on the M11xR2 it should be even easier.
note - I see HDMI Licensing LLC group is changing the HDMI version to HDMI named supported features from 2012 onwards -
My wife was boasting that her 2 year old xps was better than my brand new m11x so I had to find a fix for this hdmi thing. Turns out that the TV does not support the current resolution 1366x768? So I set the resolution at 1280x768 and presto chango! Namaiki was right, screen works.
Thanks for the tip (windows + p) 'wheresmystuff' - didn't know I could do that. Matter of fact, thanks to everyone who replied, good to know that there are some good ol' folks out there willing to help!
Btw, does anyone know how to ensure that the discrete gpu is switched on with the R2? Still curious. -
If it's a standard HDTV(aspect ratio 16:9), set the resolution to 1280x720 so the correct aspect ratio is kept, or things will look wider than they are supposed to.
-
The R1 is as simple as pressing Fn+F6, which would switch between dedicated/integrated. Of course, there are issues here as well (the system seems to keep dedicated GPU on after a switch back to integrated until either reboot/sleep).
As others have said, we need the happy medium--switchable graphics with the core-i CPU's -
Yeah, sad that the m11x has so many glitches. Dell/Nvidia needs to do something about this quick.
Namaiki - when I lower the resolution, the TV screen looks great but my laptop on the other hand looks horrible because the viewable area shrinks. How do I get both to be full screen? -
Right click desktop/screen resolution/and enable both monitors (extend mode). There will be monitor 1 and 2 and you should be able to click the monitor and select the resolution separately.

After that, you can move the pointer through either the left or right of your screen and onto your TV. Same for program windows. -
-
So outputting video to an external display by hdmi only works when nvidia graphics are on? How would you manually switch from integrated on an R2?
