    Hi,

I recently bought a used M11X on eBay (well a Mexican version of eBay). The laptop came with a faulty keyboard and I ordered a new keyboard that should arrive on Monday. With this being Mexico, most repair shops will not be open until the New Years so I will have to change the keyboard myself. I have looked around on the internet and did not find a guide to replacing the keyboard. The only thing that I have found is a video where a guy takes his M11X apart, so my first question is is it necessary to take the whole laptop apart just to replace the keyboard, or do I have to simply remove the front panel above the keyboard and pop the keyboard out.

And my second question is, I have notice a lot of scratches on the screen of my laptop, left there by the keyboard. When the laptop is on, you cannot see them, they are only noticeable when the laptop is off, but they still look bad. Is there any way of removing those scratches? I already tried cleaning the screen with alcohol, special cleaning solutions, bought in Radioshack and also the old Vaseline and Toothpaste method, but nothing has worked so far, so can those scratches be removed or is a screen replacement the only solution?

    Replacing the keyboard
    • Remove the bottom panel.
    • Remove battery
    • Remove the 2 screws marked K under the battery.
    • Unclip the strip at the top of the keyboard - the one with the power button. There's a groove on the right that will accommodate a small flat head screwdriver.
    • Remove the 2 screws holding the keyboard at the top.
    • Gently pull the keyboard from one side then the other. There are 2 clips on the sides.
    • Unclip the keyboard cable and the lighting cable. The latches rotate upward, and the cable slots straight in.
Then just do the same in reverse to install the new one

You could try using scratch remover, but I don't think that will work well.
I've been considering what to do with mine, I think I'm going to try to cut a hole in the acrylic. Even when it doesn't have scratches, it reflects far too much to be of any benefit.

I believe that you will need a screen protector after you replace the keyboard. The scratches will only go away completely if you change the whole LCD.
