    Hey guys!

I received my r1 this morning and straight away I decided to wipe it and start again.

Whats the score with drivers for this thing? What are the best drivers for both the Intel and the Nvidia GFX cards? I have had a little browse through here but there are lots of threads with lots of different drivers.

What drivers are the most stable with maximum performance?

    Many thanks

    Pretty much so.

As a switchable, stable and proven driver the Alienware 197.72 is as good as it gets at the moment.

I've gotten 6986 3DMarks in 3DMark06 with an M11xR1 SU7300 BIOS A05 on this driver if that means anything.

Thanks for your reply! I have the same system spec as you so I'm guessing the results would be similar.

What about the Intel driver? Mines dated 28/04/2010. Anything newer than this?

Ive been having a couple of problems with flashplayer and I'm thinking it may be down to the Intel driver.

Intel graphics driver 1994 to 2020 are the newest builds that work with the M11xR1.

Dell/Alienware's 197.72 pack features the Intel 1994 drivers.
If you search around (I won't do it right now as I'm on a painfully slow 64kbps connection), Nautis has put together a nVidia 2xx.xx/Intel 2020 driver package that you can try use.

edit: orrrrr maybe not... I can't remember. OTL

edit2: or maybe so, but they might be buggy-

    Nup. Only the R2 can.

Which graphics card and driver version?
One thing you can do is disable Flash Hardware Acceleration, but that will put more load on your CPU.

The card I'm having problems with is the Intel, when i switch to the Nvidia card it works fine.

The following is the driver information for the Intel card in device manager:-

    Driver Provider : NVIDIA
    Drive Date : 28/04/2010
    Driver Version : 8.17.11.9772

Hmmm... I have my CPU Over-clocked all the time to give me wee beast all the power it can get CPU wise.

Using integrated GPU (Intel) I can play the Avatar DVD which is in HD(720p) without any problems and I have the 1994 Intel driver.

    Driver Version: 8.15.10.1994
    DirectX* Version: 11.0
    Physical Memory: 3996 MB
    Minimum Graphics Memory: 64 MB
    Maximum Graphics Memory: 1695 MB
Graphics Memory in Use: 57 MB
    Processor: Intel64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 GenuineIntel
    Processor Speed: 1729 MHZ
    Vendor ID: 8086
    Device ID: 2A42
    Device Revision: 07

So if you're looking to solve problems with updated drivers, you may be disappointed.

As namaiki has mentioned, Nautis is yer man when it comes to M11x updated nVidia drivers.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/514262-nvidia-driver-259-47-m11x-r1-only-2.html

He's a top man and if you PM him he may be able to help you build the latest Intel / nVidia driver set.

This is not for the faint hearted and I myself backed out and decided to just stick with the tried and test olde Dell drivers.

Are you playing an MKV file or something? I'm having these problems with flashplayer. Ive tried it with various different browsers and flashplayer versions. BBC Iplayer HD works flawlessly with the Intel card and flash but with YouTube and Vimeo the screen is green at first then its just all over the place.

Just disable flash hardware acceleration if you want youtube to work with the intel card. This issue appeared while ago when the new flash came out.

... Dell drivers are not the best drivers out there. If your planning to game alot and don't really care about the battery/ or have the notebook constantly plugged in you can set your BIOS to Discrete only and goto the nvidia website to download the 260.63 or even 258.xx series. They gain atleast 5+ fps over dell stock, at the cost of losing the ability to switch gpus.

    Hi,

I've a R1 unit and I've successfully installed the 258.96 drivers. But I'm having the common issue of the m11x not waking up after opening the lid (it was fine with the official dell drivers).
here are the steps I've used for installation, can anyone please tell me if I've done it correctly or not.

1.) Went into bios, changed graphics to discrete
2.) boot into normal windows mode, Uninstall the official dell drivers
3.) boot into windows safe mode, use driver sweeper to clear anything that's Nvidia
4.) boot into normal windows mode, install 258.96 drivers

I can game just fine, but the not waking up issue is really bugging me.

One thing i do notice though. Is that, if i press the powerbutton to make it sleep, then close the lid. It will wake up normally.
it just doesnt work if i close it the lid directly.

    please advise, thanks ;)

ah yes, that one bug i forgot to mention that comes with the new drivers, not only do you lose the ability to change cards, you also lose the ability to sleep just closing the lid. Trust me if you get it to work you can pm me, but i've tried everything from windows manual setting change to what not. ;). oh, but there is an alternative thats similar to sleep. if you goto power options you can change the setting from 'when closing the screen:sleep' to hibernate. Hibernate is pretty much the same as sleeping just that you'll have to press the power button to wake it up, and if you have an hdd and not an sdd it might take a bit longer. In either cases set it to hibernate.. you dont know how annoying it is losing all your work because of that stupid bug.

Just came across this problem too with the 258.96

Bump this to the top in case anyone else is looking for this too.

For m11xr2, read that you have to disable alienfusion service.

hmm... all this talk of switchable vs discrete, how many hours of battery life do you guys get when in discrete and not gaming? just surfing and those sort of stuff?

On my R1, about 5.5-6 hours. Youtube knocks that down to a *barely* 5 hours. If I am doing something that doesn't burn through the HDD/WiFi, then about 6-7 hours.

    oops

In discrete, no more than 4 hours (less, if youtube is up - which seems to be the single more power consuming thing I can do, short of SC2).

    I'm sorry!

So here's what I've gathered from reading this thread and a few others on the site, somebody step in and correct me if I'm wrong though please.

    m11xR1 options:

    1) Discrete: Any nVidia compatible (258.96, 260.63b etc) (official) *best for gaming

    2) Switchable: Alienware/Dell 197 (official)

    3) Switchable: Nautis 259.47 (unofficial)
