Has anyone here had success hooking up an R1's 335m to a korean 1440p panel? I know some of the newer or more expensive ones have HDMI and other inputs, but I have the basic one with only dual-link DVI. Can i use a cheap passive hdmi->dvi dual-link adapter or do I need an active one?

If you don't use an active adapter, your maximum resolution will be 1920x1080.
To get full 1440p you'll need an active Display port to Dual Link DVI adapter.

1920x1200 is the most you will get without an active adaptor. The R3 has a DP so can do it via that but the R1 will need one of those annoying expensive cables and is really not worth the hassle.

@ Nightrider & @ YiddoYou're right, it's actually 1920x1200, but the point is that the maximum resolution of your monitor won't be reached without a DP active adapter :)

@Katalin: It's worse than that. These Korean DL-DVI monitors don't have scaling chips, if you don't output at their native resolution they don't display anything at all.

Thanks for pointing that out, It's true. The ones with only DL-DVI don't have a scaler.
