    Hello ,

I'd like to have the newest Nvidia driver on Windows without loosing battery life , so my Idea on my M11X R1 was to have a dual boot , one with intel card working on linux , and one with the latest Nvidia on Windows.

I know that there are several problems with Optimus & linux , but i'm not concerned as it's an R1.

Any tutorial / suggestion for me to install this on R1 ? Wich one should i take ? 10.1 or 11.4 ? I read here that 11.4 can't have graphic working , is this true ? http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/alienware_m11x Did you got problem while installing linux with MBR , crashed your windows or even loose access to recovery partition ?

I've already installed linux several times at school , but i want to be sure no to kill my M11x , i got so much data that i don't wanna loose on it , and especially access to Recovery partition wich is a really cool feature.

    Thanks !

The r1 doesn't have optimus you are out of luck. It would have to be a completely unique script to make it work. Dunno if it's been done et.

You really should back up your system before installing Linux, anyway.

I believe fn0rd posted something in the m11x linux thread about how to get graphic switching working on the m11x.

    Hello :)

I just made a few try yesterday , i installed it with Wubi , so it was completly safe ( btw , i didn't even know that method exist , it's awesome )

I manage to install Ubuntu , having graphics working brightness control way more better than windows, flash with firefox etc .. , but no sound , and the laptop was overheating. I manage to have a bit more battery by killing the Nvidia card with a few command , but i was a pain to do.

I installed 10.4 , got no sound and overheating. It seem that 11.10 didn't have thoses problems anymore , but my upgrade lead to a kernel panic , so i'll do a clean install of 11.10 and tell you if it works or not.

By the way , if anyone here have information about Ubuntu ( or else ) on R1 , having programs to disable the Nvidia card , or even way to keep up the battery ( underclock CPU or anything else ) , i'd be glad to ear !
