I'm just wondering, before I consider switching to Windows 8, if there are any major concerns with the "Alienware" programs, like Sense and what not that run things like the lit keyboard and hardware settings (graphics, sleep, power management etc). So if anyone has used the preview versions of Windows 8 and tested this, please let me know.

Also, I was wondering if anyone has used it with any games. I'm not terribly concerned with newer titles, but older games like Star Wars Battlefront II through Windows 7 already have issues (mainly with audio). So I'm just curious what backwards compatibility is like on this OS. Is everything up and running, or should I expect issues with my Steam games?

Thanks in advance. I'm not in terrible need to upgrade or anything, but being that Windows 8 is less bogged down, it would be great to squeeze a little more from this great laptop. I know that we won't know all these answers till it's release tomorrow, but hopefully the preview build already answered some of these questions.

Most games run just fine! So far, encountered compatibility issues only with Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Max Payne 3 (which officially doesn't support Windows 8 yet) among my vast plethora of games. ;)

Hello, M11X r2 i5 user here, I've just installed windows 8 pro today and I'm experiencing extremely slow WiFi and lan connection. (0.07 Mb down, 0.85 Mb up)
I figured that the problem was the drivers, but Dell does not offer Windows 8 drivers for r2.
Prasad, ceramicsaturn, could you give more insight on solving this problem? Thank you.

Does anyone know of any updated trackpad drivers to allow for Win8 swipe features? Or does the trackpad not support it?

    Card? Please Google it first.

I found a Synaptics driver that does that. Google for it.

Thanks for the quick response Prasad!
I've been searching for solution for half a day now, with no result...

For the card, I gave Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter

Have you tried installing the Windows 7 driver for it in compatibility mode? Until the Windows 8 driver is officially out..

    EDIT: Found this: http://www.driveridentifier.com/sca...51C438EFCC3&hardware_id=PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727

Thanks again Prasad! You're a really big help. I need to sleep for tomorrow, so I will post a follow up using your method the following day.

Yes! The link you gave me solved it!
I downloaded the driver provided by Asus (WIFI_Driver_V630590_Win8.zip, WIFI_V630590_Win8.zip) and installed it. Works great now! Thanks so much!

I am waiting on my new Crucial SSD to get here so I can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

What are the bangs that show up in device manager. 2 unknown devices and 2 base system devices in Windows 8 Pro

    Here's the direct link: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/Win8_Beta_MB/WIFI_Driver_V630590_Win8.zip

I'm having the same problem on my m11x R1. I updated to Windows 8 Pro and the network adapter is running extremely slow, (max 1.1 megabit per second.) Hopefully these updated drivers resolve the problem. Dell has stated they will not be offering support for Windows 8 on the M11x R1 and R2. :(

UPDATE: These drivers fixed my Wi-Fi problem. I had to force them to install, however. (Update > Browse > Let Me Pick > Have Disk)

AlienSense and SetPLL won't work on Win8 though.
