    Batteries last anywhere from 300-500 charges. They have a one year warranty from Dell so if you are in the warranty period contact Dell for a replacement otherwise you will have to purchase another.

    Do you use your laptop on AC power almost all the time? I had a similar problem with my old Inspiron 15, I used to plug it in all the time and when I needed to use it on battery the damn thing went flat in 10mins!

    Best option I can give you is to either phone up Dell/look online and see about costs for a replacement battery. If you're still in warranty I'd recommend calling up.

    If you're under warranty call dell and get a new one
    Your battery is kaput ->
    If you're not under warranty buy new one, or keep that AC cable plugged in.

    @ryan2107

    Keeping it plugged in has nothing to do with it, pretty much any laptop nowadays has some chips so battery wouldn't get overcharged. If it is at 100% it just keeps it there, it doesn't keep on charging it to ruin it completely. If it did that every cellphone would have dead battery, as i doubt anyone puts it on a timer to charge.

    My warranty expire last August 2011.

    I called Dell and buy a extended warranty and they told me they will send me replacement battery.

    Warranty cost me around 267....If I buy new battery it will cost me 150+

    So better get the 267 with new battery replacement from Dell.

    So what should I do next so that I will not have this kind of problem again?

    In order to avoid this problem, I suggest using your laptop on battery power at least every other month until drained in order to prolong the battery life.
