I've had my R2 for a while now, and I'm starting to get bored with the look of it. I came across another thread in this forum (by ejohnson) where he painted an M11X white and I thought it looked really slick! Much props to him.

Although I'm not as skilled as he is, I still wanted a different look - just something not so permanent. So I decided to cut my own pattern and wrap my R2 in white carbon fiber vinyl. Took me a while to get the edges straight but I think I got it down pretty good.

Was wondering if you guys think it looks any good before I start spending more time to wrap the bottom half.

Thanks! Btw, tried your suggestion from my Random Sleep post and it's still occurring. I think I'm going to try another set of nvidia drivers (275.33) to see it'll resolve the problem. Currently on 285.62.

Sweet! Looks great, I love the carbon fiber effect with the white.

You going to give the bottom a try too?

Using a hair dryer will help with getting the port holes right.

    Thanks for the encouragement guys!

@Rypac - cool, let me know how it goes. Feel free to ask me any questions about it if you get around to it.

@ejohnson - thanks for the advice, I bought a milwaukee heat gun in anticipation of the bottom part; it's going be tough with all those ports.

Just go slow with it and it will turn out great! I have done a few cars with this stuff and as long as you are careful, you will be golden.

Where'd you get the vinyl? I want to try this seriously. Micheals or an art store I assume?

Bought the vinyl off of ebay. I went with the good stuff: 3M Di-noc vinyl. There are cheaper stuff from China (which I also tried) but the adhesive is really second rate to the 3M.

The 3M is stiffer but a little heat will help it wrap around the bends. The knockoff is more malleable and requires less heat, but after a couple days I noticed some peeling.

I think you can get a square (12"x12") of the 3M for roughly $15-$20.

    On a related topic, I just ordered a 60" x 24" section of brushed aluminum vinyl :)

Going to do my computer, mouse, headphones, flip camera, and maybe some other things too.

One of my friends had his Audi done in this same stuff (his dad works for 3m) it came out super cool looking.

Hoping mine will look just as good.

You gotta post some pics, I'm really interested to see how you tackle the ports on the bottom, I'm having some difficulty getting the creases out.
