I had my screen replaced after the hinge popped - have had my machine about a year. I know many of you have experienced the same. I had been watching the threads regarding this and it was helpful, but I never saw anything that illustrated the problem. I wanted to make sure the replacement wouldn't suffer from the same problem so I asked the tech to let me see them together. I took this picture with my phone. Not sure this will address that completely, but there have clearly been some changes in the hinge construction. It's not a great pic but if you can see this at a decent size you can clearly see the increased bulk of the hinge pin. It feels much heavier and more solid than the original did. Thought I'd share it as an FYI to any of you that were interested. The portion of the hinge that's within the screen assembly is larger too. Didn't get a pic of that unfortunately.

Thanks for the picture. Does the right side of the LCD apear to be a little higher or further back than the left at some angles? That is one thing that bugs me about the old hinge.

    Thanks

The actual hinge components themselves have never been the problem. Its the weak plastic bosses (what the hinges are bolted into) that are part of the interior lid shell that have been breaking. Once someone has reason to (or just feels the need to) crack open their LCD assembly we'll have a much clearer idea what Flextronix and Dell changed in order to remedy that.
