Yesterday I switched off my M11X as usually. 20% left of battery. Nothing suspicious. It is about 3 months old.

This morning I pressed the main switch and nothing at all happened. The battery check on the bottom showed one lamp.

I connected mains and nothing happened again. No charging lights. Nothing.

Has anyone an idea? I have the warranty but I want to be sure to try everything and make no simple error.

Are there more experiences with this kind of sudden death?

I have the 1,6 GHz in Bios enabled. Nothing else.

    :(

Hmm, first post I've seen about it and I've been lurking the M11X forums for a good 5-6 weeks. I had a similar issue with an HP back in 2009 and what remedied it was the battery temporarily removed/hard reset if my memory serves me right.

Unless someone else has a suggestion, I recommend contacting AW so a tech can swing by and check it out.

I once had the same problem on my old vaio netbook, try unplugging your m11x and then remove the batery, then plug it again, turn it on (if it will) and then insert the battery again, this worked for me... :D

I assume that removing the battery will not harm my warranty?

Edit: Ah, there is a connector. But it didnt help :(

I called the support. She asked me exactly like you for removing the battery connection. Which I did again and pressing 10 secs the power button....Now I am waiting for the call of the technician.

Just make sure the AC main is also disconnected as well. Reseat RAM. Try leaving it overnight with battery disconnected and AC mains unplugged.

    Good luck.

Sounds like you have the same or similar problem to what I just did. Here's a link to what I posted-
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/553633-m11x-r2-undergo-multi-organ-transplant-eek.html#post7138206

I ended up having the battery, hard drive, and motherboard replaced, though I think only the mobo was bad. A replacement heatsink was also ordered, but the mobo's come with them so it was not needed.

As per my warranty, the next day, Dell/Alienware sent a tech to my house with the parts and installed all the replacements, but I am having to install windows as the HDD they sent him did not have an image of the OS on it. So Dell sent out a set of restore discs and after some prodding, a loaner ext. DVD drive as well. I'll link my experience having this done. I hope you don't get the same caliber of cretin I got.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/553921-unfortunate-repair-experience-hopefully-rare-occuraance.html

Bottom line it the problem seems to have been fixed, though I have only just installed Windows and have not actually used the system yet. It's charging fine and staying powered up after it boots (the 3 times I've powered it on since it was fixed, been too busy to get everything back up and running to be able to really use it).

I still have faith in my M11X (replaced the hard drive Dell sent with a Seagate 500GB Hybrid) and look forward to using it again.

    Best of luck to you!

Whoa, you mean they haven't made any attempt to fix it this whole time?! That's not right... you need to get your issue bumped up to the next level of support. Regardless of my experience getting mine fixed, the bottom line is that it was taken care of within 24 hours.

Tomorrow I get a call of the technician. The spare parts are now available. What do you mean with next level of support? I complained but they told me something about terms and conditions which give them 30 days before I can expect to get a refund or something :(

I just meant that perhaps you weren't talking to anyone with the ability to solve your problem if it required something extra on Dells part. Like getting a supervisor to OK a rush shipment at their expense, for example. If I don't feel that I'm getting the proper level of care over something that I know I'm entitled to, I usually ask to speak to a supervisor or someone that is qualified to make more complex decisions. It's an unfortunate result of how some customer support/services are organized- you're not always talking to a person that has any authority when you initially call for help.

When I asked to be loaned a DVD drive so that I could install the restore discs Dell was sending (see my second post I linked), the rep that the on site tech was talking to said "no" and actually laughed at the idea not knowing he was on speakerphone. So I called the Alienware tech support number I used to first report my problem and after checking with his supervisor, the tech I got said it would be shipped to me next day delivery.

So it helps to force the issue further up their employment chain if need be.

Finally they replaced Mb and power board which solved the problem. Second repair in three months. :(

I am glad that I paid only 700 Euro. list price is about 1200.

I'd stare at that GPU, which likely means another mobo replacement.

2nd mobo replacement and all is working well so far - beside the card reader for which I had to reinstall the driver.

welcome to my next SD issue. Is it commenly known? The hot line dude told that he had the same problem.

    Symptoms:

On battery even fully loaded the M11x switches off more or less coincidently. It needs a reconnection to the power supply for restart and then it works again without the PS. But after a (not possible to define amount of) time (minutes sometimes) it switches off again. no warning at all before.

Sometimes I have the impression that moving the M11x a little might provoke this. Its more like it switches off and I have the impression that I had some pressure or force on the housing before. You know what I mean?

The hotline dude told that it helped him to open the device, remove the connector of the battery and press the main switch for a minute. This seem to helped a little bit but it did not fully solve the problem. It looks like it is more seldom, but thats not enough for me.

Any advice what it can be?

Do we have the same here?

I had a similar problem, but it was due to my roommate spilling water on my AW. Luckily she fixed my own laptop, but she had to buy lots of resistors to solder back to the motherboard ._. I don't notice any difference after it got repaired so lucky me :D
