Well this is starting to get annoying and I mentioned it in an earlier post I made but no response, anyways the problem is that the notebook switches to a dual monitor display every time I restart and sometimes my screen is the the second one and its a 600 x 800 display and I have to press win + p and use the arrow keys and sort of guess what I'm doing because I'm on the other monitor apparently. I fiddled around with the NVIDIA control pannel but I found nothing there and also with the Intel CP, nothing, and I set it to single monitor display when I right click desktop > screen resolution, but it resets every time I restart, oh and I've never had this notebook plugged into an external display

EDIT: And I have the 260.xx driver installed, the modded one I found on this forum.

    I have that problem too.

The device manager shows 2 monitors, I have tryied disable one of them, but it still shows.

It looks like windows thinks that there is a monitor conected to the nvidia gpu or something

Hmm, yes and when I look at the GPU activity icon in the taskbar it says that VGA is using the GPU, so I'm really not sure what's going on

Yeah I'm noticing this problem too. Just popped up for me after doing a fresh install. But I think I had the same problem before too but never checked.

It's highly annoying and I've tried disabling the other monitor but like Jmb0 said it doesn't fix the problem. It's a real battery drainer.

Loto, what I do is press win+p and click on computer only, it's a real quick step at start up but it gets annoying after a while

    Things I would try:

Clean off your current video drivers - nvidia and Intel. Don't just uninstall them, clean all traces off using Driver Sweeper (I think that is what it was called).

Load the latest Nvidia and Intel video drivers from the Dell M11x support site. They are older than the modded ones found on this site, but they have been tested and are certified by Dell to work on this machine. Once it is working correctly you can always upgrade.

If that does not work, you could try installing the latest Intel drivers, here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/517818-nvidia-geforce-260-63-beta-3.html#post6703072 (<-- Ignore the name of this link, the Intel files are there)

There have also been reports of installing the newest PhysX drivers fixing some issues (even though they are already included in the nvidia driver package, install them overtop). I never saw it fix this particular problem, but it is video related so it could not hurt.

Maybe try to connect an external monitor. Perhaps when you disconnect it again it will straighten itself out.

Can you disable the external video port in the BIOS? If so, that may straighten windows out as well. You can always turn it on later. I don't know if this option exists, but I am just firing some things at you to try.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I'll go and have a look in the BIOS now and then I'll reinstall the drivers, thanks again.

Thanks for the advice Stain, I'll be doing what you suggested. Will report back when finished.

Update: Uninstalled my Nvidia drivers (260.3) and ran Driver Sweeper, then installed older drivers (258.96) and things seem to be running fine now. No multiple monitors. Thanks Stain for the advice, I appreciate it.

I've got the same problem with the vga thing, but I do not want to downgrade to the old drivers. The point was to upgrade to the new drivers without any problems.

They only "downgraded" to the Nvidia 258.96 driver that has been modded and is found on this site. That is the most stable "new" one right now and the one most people that are trying to get the best performance out of their R2s seem to use. It is not really much of a step back. I recommended going back to the Dell approved 189 driver, but it turned out the 258.96 was what worked.

Honestly the 258.96 drivers are the best out there IMO. They ran games like a champ, I noticed no visible improvement with 260.3 drivers, only problems. :/

The more I mess around with these drivers, the more truth I see in what you guys are saying (Stain/Loto). I guess that's why they put Beta on the end.
