Tom's Hardware states the following:
Monday Bigfoot Networks said that Dell has chosen its Killer Wireless-N 1103 network adapter as an option to all four of its latest Alienware gaming laptop PCs, including the M18x, M17x, M14x and M11x. What this means for consumers is that, for an additional $80 tacked on to the final pricetag, they will have access to wireless speeds up to 450 Mbps via a 3-stream MIMO.

Now one wonders if one could wedge one of these NIC into an M11xR1.![]()

I have one in my r1 already... well the 1102 card (same as the 1103 but missing one antenna)
I have a thread about it on this forum.
Works great, way better than my intel 6200 card does. -
Saw the second link from DrGoodVibes, does the network card really deliver longer battery life for M11x?
-
I have yet to figure that out on mine as I have only had it for about a week but its only been installed for a few days to download steam games onto my new drive. My wife used my m11x too and hates why she cant get itunes, I dont have itunes loaded to the new drive so I have been swapping back and forth.
Their claims of longer battery life could be true though, it comes with a nice utility that you can set caps on download speeds for each program that is running. -
I'm want to buy the card but I can't find it on eBay......looks like the product is totally new!
-
the 1103 card is not out yet, should be out by the end of the month. But you can get the 1102 card (2 antenna) (1103 is 3 antenna) on ebay.

I am thinking about upgrading from the 6250 to the 1102. How easy is the install?
-
take off the back cover
unplug 2 antennas (just pull them up)
take out 1 screw on network card
remove card.
install new card
install 1 screw
plug in both antennas
install back cover
install drivers from bigfoots webpage -
-
When you get the drivers from bigfoots web page, it lists the drivers for the 1103 and 1102 card. They are the same driver. Using the driver from the dell page pulls up errors on the r1 (maybe the r2 also)

I am aware of the antenna issue but the wireless-n speed is upto 450mbps. Paired with my WNDR4000, it sounds very promising.

I'm not frequenting the forum as much as I used to, though mainly due to the fact I just got an EVO 3D and am living on xda right now, but I will make it a point to check back often.
thanks again! -
Hey guys im in AUSTRALIA and cant seem to find anywhere to buy one of these (1103) i'd be happy to pay someone to source one for me and ship it, or if you could point me in the right direction? Amazon and ebay only have 1102's
-
I asked the eBay seller when they expect to get 1103 into inventory and they said it should be within a couple of weeks. I ordered the 1102 and I'm expecting the delivery on Monday, can't wait!
-
I just installed the 1102. There really is no lag, sites loads in the blink of an eye. I haven't fully tested with any bandwidth intensive games. The Bigfoot Network Manager is awesome!
Just one thing I noticed, it really isn't as glamorous as the press shots.

Does the 1103 you can get with a m11x build already have a third antennae installed?
Im thinking of calling to upgrade as I stupidly missed the point of the 1000 centrino not having 5ghz. I need to know if I have to ask for a new antennae bunch if uses a third antennae. -
Yeah I notcied that too when I got mine... I had to double check the card to make what I got was right. But yeah, the bigfoot card looks nothing like the pictures, it pretty much just a modded atheros card with bigfoot text very small on the back.
