Just wanted to quickly ask for those who have both the m11x and the Razer Kabuto Mousepad (is it the kabuto?)

Whether it fits nicely between the screen and keyboard when closed

Sorry if it's been asked, I think I remember a accessories thread for the m11x in general but I'm not sure whether it was in this forum or another that I visit.

The kabuto won't fit between the keyboard and screen when closed. Too thick.

It actually fits right on. It doesn't close fully but i dont have any big problems with it. unless you must have it closed 100%, then the kabuto is the perfect fit because it covers the entire screen, keyboard and trackpad. Very happy with the purchase!

That would be great to have some pics. I really have been debating getting this. I am using that white piece of fabric that shipped with the m11x just to keep oil from the keyboard getting on the screen :p

@unreal25, if it's not too much, can you post a picture how well the kabuto would fit between the screen and keyboard?

I'm sort of curious how it would look like, my steel series QcKmini fits rather badly. It elevates the screen from the keyboard quite a bit when closed and don't really provide a complete cover over the screen.

    Hi,

Any news on this subject ? I'm searching a keyboard cover for my m11x, and the Kabuto seems to do all in one.

But some ppl say it's perfect for the m11x, other that is too thick. Can anyone drop a pic of the laptop closed with the Kabuto in it ?

    Thanks :)

In terms of surface area, the kabuto is exactly the right size; but as other users have said, it's too thick and doesn't allow the laptop to close all the way. Apart from that, I'm using the Orochi/Kabuto combo, and I LOVE it.

I don't have the laptop with me at the moment, but this is a pic I had sent to a friend to show him my new portable gaming setup....

I'll take a pic for you with the mousepad inside the laptop later today, if you'd like.

    Thanks for the pics.

But infortunatly, the Kabuto is indeed to thick. One your pics, you can see that the m11x stay open with the mousepad in it, and you have to "force" it in order to keep in closed.

Thats not ok for me, I will go for something like this with the same size of the Kabuto. This will not do the double job screen cover / mousepad like the Kabuto, but it's twice thiner. Hopefully, this will do what I want.

@sterfield, mine doesn't seem to be holding up the screen that much. have you tried positioning the mousepad further out rather than having it line up with the base of the screen?

Those are my pics. :p Yeah I had the same idea, tried that and still didn't look too good:

    Closed, without kabuto: http://picasaweb.google.com/102478564919307889103/Razer#5464438365312497650

Closed (sort of), with kabuto: http://picasaweb.google.com/102478564919307889103/Razer#5464438390712296658 (see how much I moved to to stick out, it's moved up to the beginning the keyboard on top)

Yeah I was going to suggest to try out Radtech instead. But it's not this that is bothering me, it's the fact that this thing manages to magnetically attract every single piece of dust in my living room. As a mousepad surface on a hard table it does work OK. Mouse movement feels pretty good for me. But the dust and the screen protector for smaller laptops - just one big fail. I haven't paid anything for it + I have no idea what would I replace it with if I returned it. Already bought pretty much everything else I wanted! :D

If this is intended to be your primary gaming mousepad, I'd suggest seriously looking into something else. It it way off other Razer stuff I bought.

So this mousepad doesn't fit a m11x properly. Does anyone know if it will fit either a m15x or a m17x ? Or would it be the same issue ?
    Thanks

Mine fits fine in my M17. Should be no issue with M15x or M17x as they are larger screens than the M11x.

Don't forget that the M15x and M17x have Edge2Edge displays. They may not have a small enough gap between the keyboard and the display to fit it in.

I fold mine in half when I'm not using it, seems to help keep some dust off it. Though I'm pretty tempted to wave it around my room to get rid of the dust around the room ;)

Or just cut to fit a sheet of plastic acetate to place on the keyboard when closing over the laptop.

Here we are, I finally found time to post my quick review of the Radtech keyboard cover.

I've bought here the ScreenSavrz and I'm pretty happy with it. I ordered a custom sized Screensaver, with the same dimension as Razer's Kabuto (28cm x 19,5cm).

I received it few weeks after, with a small alcohol towel and a procedure how to "clean the screen". Believe me, your screen will be shinny after doing all the steps.

Here's some pics of the item (click to see the full size of the picture)

    Global view of my ScreenSavrz

The ScreenSavrz between my two fingers. It's half the thickness of the Kabuto (0,6cm)

    Radtech logo :

The ScreenSavrz on the keyboard of the laptor :

And finally, the laptop closed, with the ScreenSavrz between the keyboard and the screen. The screen is just a bit more open than without the ScreenSavrz in it, but it's nearly unnoticeable.

No, not at all. It's just a screen protector, not a mouse pad.

I just received my Razer Kabuto mousemat. Should you buy one too? No, I don't think so for the following reasons:
It is high friction, as it has a soft mousing surface. I have used fabric mousemats before but they were more slippery. Hopefully it will smooth down with use, but right now it takes too much force to move the mouse smoothly.
Even at 1.2 mm thick it is slightly too thick to squeeze between my R2's screen and keyboard comfortably and the screen does not lie fully flat of its own accord when the kabuto is in place.

On the plus side it feels nice, has a grippy rubber underside and works well as a screen polisher. It'll definitely protect your screen from your keys but possibly at the expense of your hinges.

Hahah I still have that too! I didn't find this thread before ordering unfortunately, but I may still use the kabuto sometimes. I think the best thing to put between would be a nice spectacles/lens cloth, it would protect the screen, be thin enough to not strain the hinges and you can clean the screen. Only thing is you couldn't mouse on it :/

Hmmm....I just bought a Kabuto exactly for placing it as screen saver. and I have to say that the gap is far less then on this pictures..
Still, there is a gap..I don't know if it might be damaging the hinges or not...If i just press lightly on my screen, it closes completely.

I think/hope that it won't damage anything over time having it as screensaver

Feel free to post any pictures. :) It's quite possible I already had misaligned hinge to begin with. I also mostly used the white fabric but in my experience the grease problem was still there.

I feel much better getting rid of that laptop tho. I can't explain how much better it feels opening a new laptop and NOT having to wipe the grease every time. And not feeling I own a time bomb that's gonna explode every time I touch the screen. Oh and dock station ftw.

It does seem to look little better than mine; I am comparing the gap with the screen thickness. Despite, still looks pretty crappy and I am not sure whether it's a good idea to put anything between the screen and the keyboard, given the "superb" build quality of hinges.

This is how it should look and looks on any half-decent laptop:

And, yeah, in case you're wondering, that's the "Mothership Zeta". ;)

It looks worse than it is.
With as good as no force I can close it completely.

Judging from the pictures alone I wouldn't recommend it either, but seeing it before me and "squish" it a little it doesen't seem to put any stress on the hinges.

Before I thought EXACTLY the same as you're thinking. But then it all started breaking - I don't know whether that had anything to do with it, since a lot of people complained regardless. I just wouldn't push my luck. :)

I remember it also helped a little if you take Kabuto as far away as you can from the hinges. And yeah you can't close it all the way - it's not a bug. it's a "feature".

Has anyone trimmed their Kabuto such that it lets the screen close better and protects the screen from the keyboard?

That won't solve the problem. The pad is just too thick. If you move the edge of the pad away from the hinges, then it's probably safe to leave the lid closed as long as you don't apply any downward pressure on it, but as soon as any pressure is applied, it will stress the hinges.

I've been using the kabuto as a screen protector for months, but I've been extra careful with how I handle the laptop when it's closed. But having to add an extra measure of care gets pretty inconvenient very quickly. I've actually switched back to the white protector that came with the laptop, since I found it a few days ago after a spring clean... =)
