I couldn't find a proper thread for the witcher 2. Have been waiting for someone to tell whether the game runs well on the m11x R2. Thanks
-
Mine arrives tomorrow so i'll let you know then.
HOPE SO!!! -
Bad news guys...
I have an M11x R2 (core i5 with 4Gb RAM) and have been trying all morning to get TW2 to run with an acceptable framerate. I have all settings reduced to the lowest they can go and I'm still only getting max of approx 20fps. It's a total slideshow... can't really play it like this
Average FPS is about 11-19
Highest I have seen.. 23fps -
Crap, there went $45... If it won't work on an r2, it won't work on an r1, right?
-
-
Bummer, obviously my R1 won't stand a chance then. =(
-
Otherwise the given minimum system requirement is fake. -
If this is true (a max of 20fps on lowest settings), I'll be very disappointed. From what I've heard so far from others, the game has some optimization issues. -
I have OC'd my CPU in BIOS, I have MSI Afterburner OC on my GPU (540/1296/828) and running throttlestop. I also tried runnining GameBooster to kill any unneeded windows processes.. Still can't get the fps above 23
I'm running latest nVidia drivers 270.61 and have even tried downgrading these to earlier version... no change.. Arrrgh.. Been waiting on this game for ages too. I did kinda think this little M11x would struggle a bit, but I thought if I could get about 30fps on medium settings, I'd be happy with that.
Here's hoping that someone posts a few tips here as to ho we can get this game running smooth. -
It auto-detected specs to low. However, I'm having some problems starting the game. I purchased it through steam, installed it, and every time I launch the game I get a few errors, like:
Unable to load cooked 'globals\sound_materials.csv'. Make sure resource was gathered and check log for details.
Any ideas what went wrong..? -
The problem is that you need to manually whitelist the EXE (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\The Witcher 2\bin\Witcher.exe). The game is so new, that nVidia didn't get a chance to update the automatic whitelist yet. -
I would not mind playing the game on lowest setting since it looks gorgeous
Google Translate -
What sort of FPS are you getting?
btw... My installation also detected "Medium" settings when I clicked the auto-detect button. I was thinking "YESSS"
Unfortunatley... short lived joy. -
Is there an in-game framerate tool?
-
Make sure you are whitelisting the correct .exe
Also there will be a .cfg or .ini file which we will be able to play around with to get settings nice.
Kent what sort of framerate are you getting? -
Not doing well on my R2/i7 at all. White listed, CPU OC'd @164, ThrottleStop engaged. Ah well that's what the dedicated gaming rig at home is for. Never really intended to play it much on the M11x.
-
-
I do not mean to offened by this but some peoples unplayable varies from others. My personal acceptable level is over 30FPS. -
Should I keep the core and shader clocks linked in EVGA precision?
What about the memory clock?
Any recommendations? -
I was able to use the clocks in my sig on BFBC2 but on Crysis it crashes and i've had to drop down to 550, Shaders linked & 890 on the memory.
Have a play and see what works best for you.
There will be things we can tweak in the settins to get this baby running im sure! -
Something strange going on here... I tried it at Medium and High settings (never changed individual settings within those) and the game plays about the same as it does on low (with absolutely everything switched off), i.e. I'm getting about 20fps on High.. and 20fps on Low.

Found that COMMON ISSUES AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS [READ BEFORE POSTING] - The Witcher 2 - Forum - - GOG.com
apparently uninstalling the 3d vision can improve performance -
-
I have heard that the latest nVidia 275.27 drivers have helped for some people.
I am installing them now, and will let you guys know if there is any difference on my machine (M11x R2) -
My r3 came in today. I will let you guys know how it runs tonight.
-
My M11x R2 machine is running nVidia 275.27 drivers, using Throttlestop, and overclocking my CPU to 162Mhz.
For what it is worth, everyone seems to be having performance problems with this game. The only person that I have seen in forum posts that runs the game well is someone with a Sandy Bridge Core i5 desktop system, and 2x nVidia GTX460s in SLI. He gets around 45fps on High settings. -
-
Sorry, I can't give numbers for framerates. I don't use fraps.
But I can say that the framerates are "playable". And I am the kind of person that considers 30fps to be the minimum for "playable". -
Got it on my R1, every thing on low, just managed to get 16-20fps. That's only in the army camp. I cannot imagine the fps during intense battle later.
-
Do you have a link to the ones you downloaded Kent? -
NVIDIA DRIVERS 275.27 BETA
When you install, be sure to uncheck the option to install 3D Vision. -
Arrgh... No Joy with the beta drivers... still the same fps, i.e. about max of 20 on lowest settings.
-
maybe r3 users can run this game? since r2 users are having trouble too
although I'm willing to try the game even on the r1 =D -
Stuff this... I'm jacking this in and going back to TW1 for some "actual gaming".
-
Using Nvidia Driver 270.61
Uninstalled 3D drivers closed some " background process"
Average 18 to 20 FPS Playable in Medium settings
-
then the only way to play this game is to wait for a ps3 port of it or in a few years when I will buy another pc
-
has anyone tried using custom resolutions? maybe that will help bump the fps up?
-
I wonder if the M11X R3 may be able to get decent frames though. -
I will try it on my R3 tomorrow. Setting it to DL tonight.
R3, i7, 8gb's RAM
I'll OC the card too, see what happens. -
Everyone appears to be having issues with this title. Open thread in the 17x subforum:

Also we have a thread in the gaming section of NBR which may contain useful tips - please check both.

So scrap the saying "Can it play Crysis" the saying is now.. "But can it play the Witcher 2" haha
-
The game is still gorgeous even on Low settings.. I'd say it's as good looking as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games on med/high (even with the stalker complete mods). I would be happy playing TW2 on Low.. if I could get just a few frames more, i.e. 28-30 would be great.
Here's hoping for a little performance patch from CDPR -
i hope that deus ex doesn't fall into the same trap!
-
Nah the witcher has super high poll count and very good textures. Deus Ex is a console port so should be fine. Look at Crysis 2 running at around 35FPS and looks amazing!
I'll be very suprised if there are tweaks out that will eek out an extra 5fps on low setting. Look at Mafia and the Physx tweaks and BLOPS with the initial ini mods. The PC gaming compunity is great and will sort it out I imagine. -
Just been on overclock.net and everyone is loving it. Most people have custom gaming PC's like I used to until 5 days ago
Looks like i'll play through the first one again. Go travelling for 6 months then come back, sell my m11x and build a new gaming rig.
Shame the game is burning a hole on my door mat! -
-
try 848x480, as crappy as it sounds and see how the FPS does....that's if the game allows for custom resolutions. -
For what its worth, I tried running the game in 1360x768 res (instead of 136x768 res), and it did not have an effect.
The reason I tested this was because some previous game showed a considerable increase in performance when going to 1360x768 mode instead of 1366x768 mode. It was a first person shooter that did this... maybe Singularity? -
but does it take custom resolutions?
-
I haven't tried. You can try modifying the user.ini file in \My Documents\Witcher 2\. I think the very last section down at the bottom is where you set resolutions... you can try putting in a custom res, and seeing how the game engine reacts to that.
