hey i was just wondering which was better for WoW overall and in raids for the r1 or r2? if you guys could tell me your fps for either one of these, this would be greatly appreciated.
Also, which of the two(r1 or r2) has given you less problems with WoW. Im asking this because ive been reading alot of issues with WoW and the r2.
Thanks -
Between the M11x R1 vs M11x R2, you will probably have fewer problems in WoW with the M11x R1. Some people report problems with the automatically switching nVidia Optimus graphics technology in the M11x R2. And if you were to use the M11x R1, you would avoid those potential problems completely.
However, there are drawbacks to the M11x R1. It has a slower and outdated CPU. And its manually switchable graphics isn't going to be receiving a lot of support moving forward, so getting driver updates will be few and far between. I should also say that the people that DO have problems with the M11x R2 are a small minority... so buying an M11x R2 / R3 isn't an automatic guarantee that you would have problems. I would say that the fact that some people have problems with the nVidia Optimus graphics isn't enough reason by itself to justify purchasing an M11x R1. You would need to have other reasons to purchase an M11x R1 to justify the purchase.
And you should expect around 30-45fps at medium/high settings in most PvE zones, and 20fps - 30fps in large cities and raids. -
I own a M11X R2 and I just installed the newest Nvidia driver (the 270 one) and it sucks real hard. Blue screens and black screens everywhere. What is the best driver to play World of Warcraft with?
Thanks! -
Anyone ?
-
Have you tried reinstalling drivers? I had the nvidia panel missing options and I just reinstalled same version and it worked right after.
-
The newest driver is bad for WoW. I'd recommend the beta one (275.27) or the previous one (267.73) but not 270.xx. I currently use the BETA one and i find slightly better FPS.
-
yeah get the newest beta one i think nvidia has it on their site
-
what quality do r2 users play wow? and avg FPS?
I have a r1 and have latest hybrid drivers and play wow maxed out without problems, just have problems with stock drivers which they didn't let me past medium settings
I think you should try latest beta drivers though =D -
Out of cities I get 90+ fps on high (shaders low/off).
In cities I get about 40-50.
No GPU overclock. -
I have had the best luck with 267.76. They are one of the few drivers that lets you run the game in DX11 thus fixing sunshafts and higher water settings.
-
Although I could be totally wrong now and 4.1 might have fixed it. Or what I was experiencing might have been something totally different. If it did/is then sorry about the useless info. -
-
Well that is good to know its something as simple as the driver. Hopefully the beta ones go live with the fixes for you all.
-
-
Did you changed the engine from direct x9 to x11?
-
SET gxAPI "d3d11"
Seems to have done the trick for me. I'm using the 270.61 drivers. Thanks! +rep -
When I did this several months ago, It made the image slightly "fuzzy" does that still occur? It was slight but enough to irritate. (even if it did allow for sunshafts/high quality water)
-
no issues in graphics, but I dont usually put sunshafts in high to gain performance.
-
Sunshafts shouldnt have that big of an impact. Back when they worked correctly I dropped less than 1fps with them on high. Only impact is if you are in direct path of the sun/moon.
-
I also had this problem after returning to WOW on my new laptop. I'm not sure if it will help you solve the graphics issues you've been having but you can resolve the error with the incorrect name in Nvidia.
I thought I'd comment as I noticed the issue this afternoon, I would have posted it on the WOW forum but I can't add to this post as I don't have a US account.
1. Download this GeForce SLI profile tool
After updating my display driver, I no longer see NvApps.xml. Did something change?
2. Export the profile
3. Open the profile and search for the text relating to Tony Hawk:American Wasteland and delete all of that paragraph. Save and exit.
4. Import the profile, if you check the 3D profile WOW should have been recognised.
The only other thing I did before this was to rename the launcher .exe as per this link but I'm not sure if that is required.
-
I think the latest patch (4.2) on WoW has fixed our issues with needing DX11 enabled (at least for sunshafts) It lets me set them on.
-
Confirmed: Sunshafts and Good/Ultra water effects work under DX9 settings again. Running Driver 267.76
-
hey guys
i sorta got this prob with a graphics card that supports DX11
i cant put liquids sunshafts nor ground clutter to any than higher in wow ... it says its not possible due to my graphics card not supporting shader model 3....
any1 knows a solution?(i got the 540M) -
I just got this yesterday so I'm a bit confused on how to use it, but i downloaded WoW last night. And with the settings in fair I'm getting 17-20 FPS whats up with that...
-
Make sure that you have set WoW to use the nvidia card and not the integrated graphics. This is called "whitelisting"
Go to your nvidia control panel and look in the program tab. -
I have done that, now I'm getting 8fps in the citys. I don't see why.. I fail
Okay odd i was in windowed mode getting the 8fps in the City, switch to fullscreen and get 61....
Now more problems when i go to launch WoW with an external monitor, on extend display it crashes and i get Error code
But if i put it onto the laptops monitor open it then move it over to the external i can play it just not open it while the external is connected.

I got my alienware several months ago, recently I got back into playing wow... I used to be able to run as many addons as I could find, and run with graphics on High (or even Extreme, with fewer addons loaded however). Though the other day I logged on and noticed the loading screen was choppy.. I get in game.. and im getting 8 fps. So I lower my settings.. jumnps to 10 fps.. lower them again, 11-12 fps.. finally I put everything at the lowest possible setting, and use an easier resolution (was playing at 1920x1080--I am on a 42 inch HDtv, now playing on 1366x7xx) and Im still maxing out at about 18-22 fps where I used to get 40-60 with high graphic settings.
What ive tried-
Reinstalling WoW
Made sure computer is not overheating (Heat is no issue, as I have my battery removed and have it propped up in such a fashion that air flows through nicely.)
Reinstalled directx11
Made sure Nvidia Graphic Drivers were up to date
Made sure that the Nvidia Control Panel had "High powered Nvidia Graphics" selected for default gpu for all applications.
Turned several GPU settings to "forced off" via Nvidia CP (including vert sync, anitaliasing, triple buffering) And turned any option in the gpu settings I could to favor Performance vs Quality.
Made sure to run wow from admin mode
Turned off all system security
Ran CCleaner, Webroot, as well as defragged in safe mode. (Found a few malicious files with webroot-- which explains the breach in my WoW acct security a cpl weeks ago)
Now with all these changes ive made the game actually looks like e-- But, lets be fair its not that spectaculr int he first place so it doesnt bother me.. What does bother me is after ALL this time and research and effort I still cannot exceed 20 FPS in the lowest possible settings, and even worse 90% of the time im stuck between 9-13
Anyone that can offer any advice would be like a personal saviour.. I miss flying over the pretty landscapes and being able to see more than 20 feet in front of me
oh yeah I might mention Im using the m11x r2 w/dual core processor and the 1gb nvidia gfx card. It sits in one spot, closed 99% of the time, as stated before I use my tv for a monitor, windows 7 64 bit edition 4gb ram and my computer power settings are set to high performance. -
You running it on DX9 or 11?
-
I switched to directx11 after this began, thought mayb using the outdated could be the problem
-
1. have u tried running any other games to see how well they perform?
2. try running wow with no addons? wow lags like crazy when certain addons are out of date -
Disable addons, use dx9. See howit runs. also even if the default is set to the 540M, specifically set WoW to use it.
-
Um.. yeah, dude.. disabling addons was the FIRST thing I tried. I am a main tank for my guild so I cannot disable Deadly Boss Mods. The only other ones I use are overachiever, gatherer, a dps meter, and npcscan, though those have also been disabled.
I have tried switching back to dx9, to no avail. and I am presently downloading drivers from the nvidia website
( NVIDIA - Download Drivers -- from earlier int he thread)
I have made sure that, not only is my Nvidia GPU the default for EVERY program, but that it is specificaly selected when wow is running. I have also oped to turn a lot of the features (transparency antialiasing, etc ) off or on performance mode via the Nvidia CP. A couple months ago I could run this ing game on ultra all settings and asw long as I didnt have a list of addons longe rthan my arm it ran fine..
It seems like it started messing up when I began playing it in Windowed (Full SCreen) mode. I have since returned it to full screen and even dropped the resolution from 1980x1020 to 1366x7xx, and the most I get is 23 when im standing in a city. When Im flying over a city with all my graphical properties turned to Low/Disabled, it will hit about 34.. but as soon as I get around people it dips again. and lets not talk about the 5 FPS I see when I am in a raid and everybody is actively attacking one target in a small area -
Also when I attempted to install said drivers I got this error
The Nvidia Setup Program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with my current hardware.
So is there nothign else I can try ive pretty much done everything suggest.. from reinstalling drivers making sure drivers are up to date, disabling addons, and even turning my graphics to low.. I just cant believe this "alienware" cant handle one of the tiest looking popular games around. It seriously makes me want to put my foot through it.. I spent $700 on this "gaming netbook" and it cant handle jack . Meanwhile my buddy buys an ACER from wal-mart for $350 that runs wow perfectly on Ultra settings. Never agani will I buy an alienware -
other games? is it only wow that's having a problem?
-
Honestly no, wow used to run perfectly, however ive always had very choppy experiences with anything source-- l4d2, portal/2, Tf2 especially. Even the steam version of m:tg dotp runs ty and its a card game.
-
I haven't read through the whole thread, but have you tried reinstalling? Deleting config. file? Deleting cache folder and that whole thing Blizzard tells you to do when you're having issues?
Mine runs nicely, 40+ fps at high settings, with shadows set to low.
I'm using 301.24 beta drivers though, mainly for adaptive vsync (which does makes a difference in game smoothness)
