I'm having difficulty with WOW and Starcraft2 on my laptop and I'm just curious as to what my settings should be in the Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D settings. The factory default has many of these options set to OFF, but I don't think that's correct for maximum quality graphics. I've been tweaking them and I can't seem to find a balance where the games run smoothly and look nice. Specifically with WOW I've been getting a lot of choppiness and I can't figure out why considering the game is 10 years old and my new-ish laptop should be able to run it at max settings. I can only imagine SC2 will have major issues if WOW won't run correctly.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I know just enough to get myself in trouble but not enough to actually know what the heck I'm doing.

    Thanks,
    Murph

Additionally, I'm running my laptop through the Alienware 20in monitor that I bought with the laptop in May... in case this has any impact on what the setting should/could be...

I've got an R2, so I'm not sure if this will work for you.

With the nivida control panel open, click 'manage 3d settings' and select 'high performance nividia processor'.

Then, to tweak the settings go into the game and screw around with them in the options menu. I've got WoW and Starcraft II running on max specs, and I've hardly touched anything in the control panel.

So, I guess on the original they didn't put in a cool "High Performance" button... When you select yours, can you still see the list of options? I've included a screen shot of what I can see. If so, maybe you can show me what the "high performance" button defaults everything to?

I just use the latest driver for my r1, i think its the 197? - I didnt mess with my nvidia interface unless i was hooking up to a monitor it's all as it came.

I have v-sync off, and play in windowed mode [maximized]

For me it's never below 30 fps unless its major aoe [wont happen on bosses anywho]

Also with world of warcraft you want as little "stuff" on your screen as possible - try getting sexy map / bar tender - The less "stuff" on your screen the better the fps

So I'm using driver version 8.17.11.9772. I clicked on the 'update driver' button and it gave me version 8.17.12.5896 but that seems to cause issues with the 'output' to my monitor for some reason... (I think that's the same one I got from the nvidia site yesterday that was causing a similar issue.) So basically, just leave the defaults alone, crank everything up in game and I should be good to go... Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. =o)

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to running "windowed" vs Not?

You can tab in and out faster, - the game as a whole just looks better for me

Soo... restored everything in the Nvidia Control Panel to default, cranked the settings in game..

WOW: I'm getting 20-25fps reg, 7-11 in Dal.
SC2: there's a pop-up frequently that states that turning down my settings will increase performance. I haven't noticed much chop (i've only played a couple missions), but apparently it isn't functioning at the highest level.

not sure what the deal is...
