Welcome to the M11X Gaming Thread

This is a place where we can discuss all and any game for the M11X. Any topic gaming related is welcome. For those that want to write a game review and how the game experience on the M11X is, I will take PMs and link or post them in the Original Post. Below I have attached some links of gaming videos from the Benchmarking thread. I will try and update this at least once a week. I can fill Post one with video links, reviews, ect.

If you have a game that you would like to know how it runs, or what the best settings are, this is the place you can request that kind of insight.

Any submissions of reviews/videos ect will be linked and credited to the original author. This can enable new users to get up to speed, and easily find information.

Thanks and can't wait to get some gaming details! ;)

World of Warcraft runs pretty great for me - i've even got 2x AA on with middle notch settings under effects, and it looks and plays really well on battery. I just did a few 5 mans and the battery meter read 2 hours left as I started to game (it was near 95%).

It's pretty cool gaming on this thing on battery ;)

why? in order to get a better idea of how the whole M11xR1A01-system, not just the GT335M, performs
what? PerformanceTest 7 32-Bit or 64-Bit, available as a 30 days evaluation version:
    http://www.passmark.com/download/pt_download.htm
how? download & install & run the benchmark and upload the results as a M11xR1A01-baseline to the passmark database
why do I call it M11xR1A01? M11x = Model Name, R1 = Release Number, A01 = System BIOS. Most benchmark results don't include that kind of information unless provided by the user. If DELL releases a new System BIOS with changes to the overclocking feature, including the BIOS Version in benchmark results helps to distinguish different results.

Loaded Lord of the Rings Online and Star Trek Online.

Both played smoothly at native resolutions 75% settings....

When I play 30-40fps, my games are choppy and is usually more noticable in bigger screens, is that the cause with the m11x on an external screen?

aww that sux, one of the reasons why I wanted to buy the m11x is the ability to plug into a bigger screen to play.

What is the GPU of the Vaio?

I7 is much more powerful but without a decent dedicated GPU it does no good in games.

Edit: I watched the video (on my phone). I don't think the FPS was 2-22. It looks smooth. I don't know what settings the player set but I'm impressed. The very first part of that level is very graphic demanding.

Don't suppose anyone have tried out Microsoft Flight Simulator on one of these babies? Heard it's pretty rough on the CPU; was wondering how it would do.

Side note: Ordered mine too already actually :D

Not sure if this even belongs here, but, since OCing is needed for a better gaming experience, I'm going to ask anyways. How much will OCing gpu hurt your laptop's life? aka how much sooner will your laptop break?

HDMI output on the M11x is strong, but we did notice a slight slump in the system's graphical processing prowess when outputting to external displays.

What does it mean? It's about native resolution of external display? For example 1920x1080 tv? Or In native res of laptop on ext disp? And what is that "slight slump"? I'll have 25 fps instead of 30 in game? Or i'll have 30 but with some lags?

well if you're using an external display, most likely it's at a higher res than the laptop's native resolution. THus if you are wanting to run a game at say 1080P on a TV or even higher res on an LCD monitor you WILL see slump in power b/c it's at higher resolution. Or hook it up to a 720P TV and you'll see same performance as on your laptop. Or turn down resolution on whatever external source you're using.

btw Batman AA is on sale on Games for Windows Live demand client for $12.50 until March 1st. Great price, can use MS points too.

I'll be able to do some testing on Starcraft II tonight, it's just sandbox (no AI) but yeah fun fun. I tested it really quick and Integrated on low settings at native res seemed fine. Although it was very beginning and just gathering minerals =)

Hopefully soon I can test with AI, but I'll just base build and see how it plays in the meantime.

i installed crysis and the only problem i have had with it is the sound will destort a little when the action picks up otherwise it plays pretty sweet on medium settings.

i havent tried headphones with it so maybe that would fix the destorting problem.

On Another note, Star Trek Online at 75% settings gets 40-50fps with only very momentary drops into the high 30's.

Here some screens of SCII on high with ultra textures. For screens I used fraps and I zoomed in. Normally I play with top down though, but this gives you an idea of the 3D look. Pretty sweet. Game plays best on High rather than ultra. Ultra is playable, but for silky smooth under battles or lots of units on screen I think high is the way to go. I didn't customize the high setting, just set at high and off I went.

OK, a couple games I just tired: Using 1.6 OC, and stock GPU clocks and drivers:

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (The new one, really fun game btw!)

High settings, 1366x768, in first mission minimum 40, max was 60+, was perfectly smooth, looked great, averaged mid 40's-50's. Was pleasantly suprised with performance

    Batman: Arkham Asylum

Very High Details, 1366x768, no physx, no AO, no AA: Game played great, running 30+average. In benchmark, at said settings: 17 minimum (never saw it, so was very brief, 68 Average, 117 Max

    BattleStations: Pacific

Didn't benchmark, but at no point did I see framerate drop below 30, running at High, 1366x768, no AA. Perfectly smooth and enjoyable. Another fun under rated game if I must add.

    Will add more later.

Also, as for Crysis, on mainstream/gamer settings at native res, runs just fine. Didn't have FRAPS installed when I played, as it was my first personal test I wanted to see for the M11x, and it passed just fine: Crysis is playable, enjoyable and pretty looking on an 11" machine. I was sold right then.

EDIT: Max GPU temp I've seen so far is 60C, great cooling in this machine. Also, I did forget to switch to the Nvidia GPU when runnin batman the first time, and was getting a whopping 4FPS... we have come a long way ha!

Has anybody else got Age Of Mythology? I installed it and started playing it tonight but it runs really bad! I've left the settings on High and the resolution at the default (1024x768x16) and it is very choppy.

I am definitely not on the Intergrated GFX and the CPU is OC'd. I have set the computer and graphics cards to performance mode. Surely this should run absolutely perfect on this system?

I even scaled the details back to low and it still jumps about, this makes no sense.

Just to put my post above into perspective, I just ran Doom 3 on the maximum resolution on Ultra and it ran better than i've ever seen it before, must be running at full FPS with no slowdown. EDIT: Every possible feature is active in D3 including 16x AA.

I know I don't have any really modern games (getting some off Steam now) but surely Doom 3 is a far more demanding game than AOM?

I don't have AOM but my guess is that the game must be heavily CPU dependent. The M11x won't perform as well under that scenario.

Oops! posted this question in the wong thread. But seeing as this is the one they told me to go to I wish to ask if either the su4100 or the su7300 would have much effect on the frame rate of flight simulator x and how would it play on the m11x.

Don't know if I should buy the M11x or stay with a hp dv4 and get a 12 cell battery for being mobile around the house and travel.

Ok so i've now installed Condemned and maxed it out, runs absolutely perfect on here too. Now i've just tested Age Of Mythology: Titans and maxed it out, including resolution and it runs perfect as well. Not a single hiccup at all,
I even went through the tutorial that is the same as AoM (which ran very poorly) and it is completely smooth not a single problem.

So the problem must be the original game, is this is a known issue? Is there compatibility problems with win7? Is there a patch? Sorry for all the questions but i'd like to fix this as i'm a big Age Of Empires fan and mised this game originally.

Apart from this problem, which is actually the software this thing is incredible. It's pushing some serious speed and power yet it is so quiet, cool and compact. This is the greatest computer (including desktops) I have owned.

You need a subscription to play the game and i'm assuming they'll make you buy the game(s) if you don't have them tied to your account.

Now BFBC2 is out, I wonder how much better it runs than the beta. If anyone has it, let us know how it plays! Also if it can be installed just via online key registration and download?

I too am interested in seeing how well BFBC2 runs.
I would rather get it for PC then PS3.

Hey, can I just copy my entire Steam folder over to my new unit and work as normal? What about copying locally installed games? Would they work if I copy the game folder over to my M11x?

Yes you can copy your entire steam folder over and just let steam update and stuff if it needs and you'll be good to go. As for other non steam games, depends on if they had installers or not I would opt for reinstalling.

If you want more organized method for your steam games I would use the backup feature if you have an external HDD. That way you can leave them on there for future installations to make it easier.

Thanks for the info! Does the Steam backup feature also back up all the saves?

sorry, no saves are something you will want to back up yourself. What i do is usually stick the saves into the backed up folder of that game. Saves are usually dependent on the games themselves. If you can't find the game saves google, I've had to do that a lot.

Picked up Battlefield Bad Company 2 last night and I can confirm that it runs on Medium between 25-40 fps(used FRAPS).
Obviously AA is off and shadows are set to low but it still looks amazing.
Unfortunately I was only able to get online a shortly as there is Punk Buster issues with Steam downloads. I had the settings on low detail / high textures for multiplayer and it ran pretty well on a full server ( for the couple minutes I had before I got booted).
This was using an O/C''d Processor and stock GPU.
I am going to play with the video card a little to try an boost FPS.
