OK, I managed to get the game working using the nVidia GPU, with the swarm.exe added to the whitelist and with the external monitor dispaly. However, it only works if I connect it to one external display only. This means I have the game running off the 24 inch 1900 x 1200 resolution, and the second display being the m11x screen as the extended display. If I connect both external displays, with the m11x built-in display disabled, the system seems confused, with both screens flashing on and off during game launch, and I get the error message.

I am still trying to experiement to get the game running on the nVidia GPU, game added to whitelist, with both external displays attached

    Updated(Success!):
Really strange, dunno what I did, but it works perfect now. Both external screens up, swarm added to whitelist, nVidia GPU kicking in, and game launches wonderfully on my larger 24" monitor while I edit my posting on this forum using the second external 21" monitor! Whooo!

    Update again:
Just played 2 hrs of Alien Swarm...did I tell you guys how much I love my m11x? Now, back to doing some real work....

i can tell how much u love it from every post u made. just like how much i love mine :p

i think it all comes to how you look at the device. if you are expecting too much before hand. you are probably going to be disappointed. since mostly ppl expectations are always high up there and also most of them are not realistic. if you treat this just like another computer look at the form factor and the amount of stuffs being cramp inside. using it as just another regular computer then you will be quite amaze by it. and some times create miracles that is hard to believe it can be done. ;) i simply love mine more each day. heh~

Metro 2033 - Made a video and then deleted it. Didn't like the finished quality.. so here is the essentials. M11x can play it @ native rez, low settings, physx enabled (advanced in game) and you still get a very good experience. My frames dropped as low as 16fps when the initial ambush outside happens with 30 monsters on screen. Most of the time I stay in the upper 20s to upper 30s. Peak is in tunnels with 52 being peak. Here are some screen shots. My advice is to optimize optimize optimize. Someone on here called this game the new "crysis".. and it is a beast. Best wishes, StevenX

Note*** enabling advanced physx may cost you between 2-4 fps in different parts of the game***

This game play pretty well with the R2 and the new Nvidia drivers. It is fairly CPU intensive.

What is frustrating about the game is that it doesn't give many custmization options in game. Very few.

It is a very beautiful game when running on an able system (my desktop makes this game look amazing)

And the comparison to it being the new Crysis for benching and as a beast is an apt one as I do believe (I may be wrong) that it uses Crysis exact same game engine.

The game has config files in three seperate places. I am still trying to play around. Two are the exact same file, I dont know why. The other is the default config with more system specific data. I am going to start playing with it today or tonight if I have time. BW, StevenX

No it doesn't, it uses the A4 Engine, and it couldn't possibly use Cryengine 2 because that's a PC only game. It's also not really well optimized (Crysis is), I had to turn it down to high at the last part (a big lot of sunshafts in open air).

It does look extremely good, I was stunned, it just looks sick!

I don't know if this has been talked about or if anyone even cares for that matter, but i thought I'd put up a little piece on the Medal of Honor game.

With both components oc'd (CPU & GPU) i was able to run MOH (on average) in the high 20's to low 30's fps wise, with all low settings. The game runs very smoothly and is a ton of fun to play. Keep in mind you may have to add the program to the white list or else it is absolutely unplayable. I'm not one to be bothered by low graphics so i didn't mind playing at low, but from what i can see if you want to upgrade the graphics even slightly, the smoothness of the game will take a huge hit. Don't forgot to add the program and if your having trouble finding it just search for "mohmpgame.exe," enjoy!

P.S. The beta is available on steam for anyone who has BFBC2.

runplease - I have a video the m11x playing @low settings, native rez, on the m11x. Just youtube search stevenxowens792. I dont know why you hit the 20s but most of the time my frame rate never dropped below 30 if my memory serves correct. Most of the time in the mid 30s to low 40s.

    Thanks for the feedback,

I know this is very off topic but has anyone played command and conquer with a game pad? I like to be able to move the screen with the dual sticks of the 360 controller. I have the free version of xpadder, but don't know how to configure.

    Any info would help. Thanks

Steven thanks for the reply. I'm new to the whole overclocking. Maybe you could tell me the program you use for your gpu as well as the numbers you have it set at? Also any guess as to weather or not the m11x is going to be able to run D3. I'd assume so but any opinions would be appreciated.

@Josh R - sorry dude.. have no idea on that one..
@Runplease - I use EVGA precision. My game clocks are 550cpu, 875 mem, and whatever the shader .. 1320 I think (it's bound with cpu). I can go much higher and play but even at this level this is a pretty decent over clock. For benching i can take it up to 600cpu, 910 mem, and 1440 shader... I dont see a reason to push it too hard for gaming. I want the gpu to last so 550/875 is where I game.

Hope this helps. EVGA precision is free...I would NOT recommend nvidia ntune or tools. They cause BSOD!

    Take Care,

    StevenX

i heard of this problem but i never knew how to fix it. I got my alienware m11x r2 today, and when i play CSS the frame rate dips. I can LETS say start out at 100 fps. Then after 20 minutes it goes to 60-80fps. Then more playing time = lower fps... Why is this?

I am running Dell's most updated drivers. 257.30 ...

I havent checked the forum in a couple of weeks.

Just want to see if BC2 "multiple Direct3D" Punkbuster thing is still an issue waiting for a solution.

    Still busted?

I'm currently using the 258.96 from Nvidia with the modified inf and Punkbuster keeps kicking me.

thisguyrighthere, PunkBuster has not fixed this problem sadly. I contacted them / created a ticket, got one response asking me for my "running task list" from windows, I responded asking the person if they wanted me to install the problematic drivers and I never heard back from them...meh.

I installed the new WHQL 257.30 drivers released by Dell on 7/19 in hopes they worked, but sadly I still get kicked from servers. :(

Are you certain that you are using the nVidia GPU, and not the Intel GPU? If you are running on an Alienware M11x R2, then you want to be sure that you add the EXE (war3.exe) to the nVidia Optimus whitelist.

The performance that you mention (20fps - 45fps @ 1366x768) sounds like the performance that you'd get with the Intel Integrated Graphics, and not the nVidia GPU.

On warcraft 3 at 1366x768 (not World of Warcraft)?

I have a laptop that has an nVidia GeForce 8400M in it... about 1/4 the power of the GeForce 335M. And that gets totally smooth 60fps at 1280x800.

I really think there is something wrong. If the nVidia 335M is running Warcraft 3, then it should have absolutely no problem running at max details at 60fps.

anything outside of 189.69 will have problem with punkbuster. still its not the driver issue. its punkbuster issue. try the updated 257.30 from alienware/dell you will still get the punkbuster issue. this is a known thing.

fyi apart from the mentioned bug, most 25x.xx drivers runs so much more better than 189.69 since they resolve a lot of optimus issues that initial owners are facing.

Battery/Gaming Post - Gamed strictly on battery tonight. 100 percent performance. Throttlestop utilized, max battery performance setting with minimum cpu level set at 100. No gpu oc. Just cpu oc. Played DDO and BFBC2. Batteries lasted for exactly 2 hours. 2 hours almost on the nose. It kicked me outta a good match in bfbc2 at less than 2 percent power left.

It is so cool to play bfbc2 at the local barns and noble. To give you an idea my old m17 could play a game on battery for exactly 24 minutes. No more. Crossfire eats up them batteries.

Yeah there is something wrong with your m11x, i'm guessing optimus isn't utilising your 335m. I can confirm as I just tested out the campaign with everything maxed at 1600x1200(32) on an external monitor on my R1 . It never dropped below 58FPS when using FRAPS. I also had steam, media player and firefox running in the background.

@Viral - if you read the older m17 threads or forums, they dont even call it a battery... it is merely a UPS to allow you to shutdown in case of power failure...

It also helps to stabilize power as well.

That is about it. Powerful box...

I have devoured these forums with no mention of this unless I overlooked something but I have a question.
Did anyone try out Age of Conan:Rise of the Godslayer on the M11xR2? I am downloading it right now on Steam and how it would play on my M11x. I do have a high end gaming rig sitting at home so I wont be always playing AoC on the notebook. Its just for my business trips or sitting in a boring meeting killing mobs.

I too am experiencing the same relatively low fps's (around 25). I ran Warcraft 3 on both the integrated and the 335m, and for some weird reason, there is almost no difference in fps between the 2.

I'm currently playing L4D2, which plays pretty smooth, I haven't checked the fps yet but overall when it's nice and crisp. Even when there are hundreds of zombies on the screen I don't feel any lag at all. However, the weird thing is when you enter a room or a dark tunnel the frame rate drop dramatically (again I can't say how much because I don't have the tools to check), it's still VERY playable but annoying.
The other game that i'm playing is GW, which, plays like a dream 60+ fps all the time.
Last but not least, football manager 10, I add it to the whitelist as integrated graphic only and it plays really really well, which means that I can still get around 5 hours of playing time :D.

since you are using this driver. if you whitelist WC3, when you run it did you cross check the GPU activity on your taskbar icon to make sure that its really running on GPU? could be the whitelist not working. Whitelist should work 99% of the time as of this driver but there will probably still be that 1% of weird case where the game just does not trigger the GPU even thou whitelisted.

Sniper Ghost Warrior - Runs at medium levels ok. Really trying to like this game but so far I am not really impressed. The plants and stuff look good if you enable post processing. The MAJOR problem I have is that the game, no matter what you do, sets itself to run at 'BELOW NORMAL' priority. I have tried switches, rights, admin rights, etc.. and no go. Really makes me mad. Oh well.. I will keep trying. The jungle looks really neat in game.

    Best wishes,

    StevenX

Supreme Commander 2 Demo works beautifully on M11x R2.
High graphics settings give smooth frame rates.
Though since it's a demo, I haven't actually tried any skirmishes nor online play, just campaign missions.

Yes I did, and it showed that war3 was using the GPU. Oh well, I guess I can live with the lowest settings to get 60 fps, although it would be nice to have 60 fps with the highest settings.

just a guess mate but worth a try. could be related to multithreading from the CPU. Why not try the game running with just 1 core (its a really old game anyway) see if it turns out different

How does GTA4 run on the R2? I have heard that it's nearly unplayable on the
R1 because of the CPU, but how does it play with an i5/i7?

Medium to high settings with a stable 30 fps should be good for me.

not sure of the game gfx setting. however disable turbo boost and OC your CPU in bios will allow the game to run at a playable rate.
