I am not very familiar with CSS. I have the game, played it a bit, think it's ok for a few minutes for offline play and then will usually un-install it.

So my question to everyone.. Do you really need 170fps to play it? Isn't 60fps ok? Please explain the mindset why 120fps is needed.

    Thanks! StevenX

Well some say that human's eye cant see over 40 hz of refresh rate and that's absolute bull in my opinion. It is good to have twice fps of your monitor refresh rate so when I play on my external lcd monitor that have 75 hz refresh its nice to have over 150 fps. And with my crt that has over 100 hz refresh, i should have 200+. And the better refresh rate, the better reaction, game play etc etc.

Btw kiwidaniel, with 640x480 resolution i get quite nice results, dunno how but I got 260 fps on stress test with certain nvidia settings and fps cfg, if you want i can send you both on email or sth

please private msg me in the forums and tell me. But i always play native resolution. Also i heard about the naked eye and all that. But i feel the higher the better. :/ and i know that this system is capable of running higher than 120...especially just the stress test.

did you try enabling multicore rendering? rep me if it helps and boost fps. (its in the advanced settings in counter strike source game.)

I'll have a look around tonight. I know someone else had an issue with Source on the R2 and I believe they got it fixed.

IMO, the more FPS the merrier. It reduces the latency by *just* that much more.

Though if it's anything over ~30FPS, I'm perfectly fine with it.

In case anyone got Force Unleashed II and it's running crappy and you're worried it's your M11x, don't worry it's not.

I've installed this on my G73 and desktop and it runs crappy on all of them.

I don't believe this game was optimized for the PC at all. My feeling on this stems from the fact that the graphics look horribly jaggy and blown out no matter what you do at any res. above 1280x720p

But! Set it to 1280x720p, the standard console resolution, and everything is crisp with no jaggies.

I'm a Star Wars nerd, so I'll play through it, but based on the reviews, the fact that it seems they just dumped it out on the PC along with consoles with no resolution optimization and lastly, the fact that most of the creative team from the first game either quit or were layed off from LucasArts including another head of the company -

It's pretty clear this game's stinker and they just dumped it hoping to break even or get a profit in the same ways many film studios front load their movies trying to recoup costs or make a profit opening weekend.

I was hoping for at least an interesting story, but I guess that's a disappointment too.

    Oh Well.

I'm gonna tackle Darksiders and AVP next then. As I wanted to play them with an XBox pad and it wasn't being recognized in the game and I stoopidly just realized how simple the fix was (conflict with my Logitech G13. Simple unplug, and voilà! XBox 360 pad works. I've been struggling with this for weeks. I've never felt more Homer Simpson in my life)

It's really nice to be playing games on my M11x again. For so long, all I've been playing was BFBC2 that my M11x was just sitting on the desk doing nothing but gathering dust.

    Such a fun machine

The problem is that the FPS is cap'd by the developer at 30fps. So if you have a cheap system or a $4000 system you get the same performance. 30fps.

Does this make others mad... YOU BET!

    Another ruined Star Wars Title.

@THX ***Side note - how far have you made it into the game THX? I know the first one was slow during the initial Darth Vader phase but got much better after that part.***

Time for me to make one of Ben Heck's xbox 360 laptop mods, lol :p [j/k, I don't want to do that :D]

I've made it to the 2nd of 4 worlds in the game. It's really short. Combat is fun. The story is so far a let down with some really cool moments.

Vader's voice is one of the worser ones and sounds nothing close to JEJ.

Bottom line - to put it in console terms "It's an aweome rental" In fact it's one of those games that is right between rental and buy.

Where if you buy it, it's only $40, you don't feel too cheated as that's the price of going to two movies with the wife.

But there's also not a lot there to replay as a buy.

If you're a Star Wars geek it's worth a buy or playing right away.

At the same time, if you're a Star Wars geek, you might want to boycott it and show LucasArts/Film that you don't like good stories getting ruined in sequels or stories altogether that don't adhere to the story logic of the universe.

I elected to buy it, and I feel like a dirty, dirty, harlot.

What settings are people using for warhammer 40k DoWII? For some reason the game won't save the graphical details I tell it to. It will do the performance test quite fine, and on ultra shows me from 26-75 fps with an average of 44. But everytime I hit "apply", when the game reloads it just resets itself to low settings.

    Anyone else get this?

Edit: So I've tried everything I can think of... i have an R2 w/260.99 drivers btw.
    - ran exe as admin
    - made sure exe was whitelisted
    - tried forcing the right settings by manually editing various dow2 config files (including the intel driver file, nvidia driver file, configuration.lua file, and the spdx9_config file)

Nothing works. I'm out of ideas.

Edit2: Found the m11xR2 thread on the official dow2 forums.. Relic is playing the blame game. The thread was started in June, and the last official post from relic was last week with "it's not our fault, complain to nvidia". So in other words, this game does NOT work on the R2. I wonder if Steam issues refunds... :/

Welcome to the console dominated world where aim assist is rampant and developers just don't care about the PC anymore. It's so sad.

This is what has me leaning towards the Knights of The Old Republic MMO.

MMO's seem to be the last "genre" of games that are still PC centered and PC friendly. I have the Star Trek one which runs great on the M11x and is fun ship and space combat. In fact I'm going to jump into that one a little next

And thats why I got a ps3 AND a m11x. So true mate ..... The thing is that on ps3 and xbox we dont have aimbots ( or maybe we do?) and the pc have a lot of hacks for almost everything......People can download games for free, you cant on ps3 (Just a few ps3 can I think). They know that people prefer playing cod, halo on consoles because its cheaper and you get less problems in GENERAL.

Less hacking on consoles is a common misconception. I remember when I had the original Xbox and people discovered you could mod it and play online with cheats. I'd spawn in, be in front of a Warthog turret, die, wash, rinse, and repeat. It took about a month but Bungie cracked down and then the game was fun to play again. As for piracy, you can easily download and burn games to run on the 360, PC, and even Wii. I'm sure it's a lot harder to do that for the PS3 because of the increased security and the fact that Sony cut out a lot of features from previous PS3 revisions.

Consoles are for the mass market as they work right out of the box, require very basic tweaking to set up, and are perfect for parties with an online or a split screen enabled game. PCs require more finesse to use and I find that more older gamers use them rather than the consoles. I dunno, just my two cents.

I think the same. That's why In my opinion I usually find more girls and older gamers in pc. In ps3 ( I dont own a xbox360) is just a mess....13 years old cursing you from around the world. But I always wanted to know more about pcs and laptops I think that is another reason I got my m11x. The only problem I have against pcs is that you need to buy a new one after 3 years, Instead of consoles you buy 1 after Idk 6 years...Talking about playstation I don't know about xbox.

Ladies (or girls) tend to have pc's because they are more chat or webcam friendly. Then, hopefully they get pulled into pc games. I for one think we need more girl gamers. I distinctly remember when COD MW2 first came out and I was playing on the 360. There was some kids on from England that had snuck out of their school room (whatever grade 12 year olds are in) and were screaming and playing at 1am (my time in USA). It's interesting sometimes to hear the different languages and see tactics from more seasoned players but most of the time it just sounds like Cat Scratch Fever.

Back on Target here... Anyone going to pickup the new COD Black Ops when it comes out next week on PC? Or is everyone going console on this one?

Whatever it is worth...Steam is having a sale on Theatre of War (the entire saga) for like $12. Not the best WWII RTS, but if you're a history fan, like me, with an R2 - pick it up! :)

Both, but PS3 first, since most of my friends (in the 20s) all have PS3. But I find PC more precise hence enjoyable, albeit far more difficult. Both console and PCs have learning curves, I'm more accustomed to consoles.

Mass Effect 2: Pretty good. Medium/high settings.
Mafia 2: Meh. Ok. Low/medium settings.
Tropico 3: I don't know. But I bet the M11x would absolutely run that game well
Dragon Age: Runs the game well on medium/high settings.

Yes I have the same issue, though from what I've head it affects any computer that uses Optimus tech. I honestly can't decide if Relic simply doesn't care (hence saying it's an Nvidia error) or if it is a problem with Optimus.

Just Cause 2 can run in M11x R2 without overclock? What's the recommended settings.

Btw, does constantly overclock will dmg the laptop? I always keep at 158mhz as if I move above, SC2 will randomly crash.

I ran Just Cause 2 at max settings (no AA), with 30fps average,, I tested the demo, with 160 OC in the i5, and looks WAY better than the 360 version that I played for around 50 hours...

I have some videos of some games running in the m11x r2 (i5):

Bioshock YouTube - Subject is Dead

Left 4 Dead: YouTube - Left 4 Dead

Lost Planet: YouTube - Lost Planet Demo

Lost Planet: YouTube - Lost Planet Demo

Short videos, I don´t have a very good upload speed to upload videos with 500MB or more in size, also, they are converted, since some of the original videos where around 2-3GB in size with fraps, so any slowdown or quality loss is not present while actually playing the game without those programs...

P.S. Lost Planet was without AA, since with 16xQ CSAA was somehow laggy, so I turned it off, but I think that with 4-8 AA can work also very well

Relic has done some rudimentary testing on their forums with other users, and concluded it's nvidia's problem. And nvidia seems to be ignoring the problem as well, as I haven't seen an official response from them either. Relic claims they've informed nvidia, but that's probably all they've done.

We're probably SOL unless we can get more and more people to post in those threads and get some attention.

I have just been messing around with the Mafia II benchmark on my R1 (testing and benchmarking GPU overclocks) and tbh my results are at best mixed.

I am getting around 29fps with stock clocks. I have noticed though (using MSI afterburner) that my GPU isn't always being fully utilised so sometimes this score is lower. I cannot put my finger on what is causing this as it doesn't appear to be a heat issue or a unstable overclock (heck it happens at stock too). I am also noting crashed to desktop relating to the Physx.

My only conclusion is the 197.72 drivers (released far before Mafia II) are causing issues that were potentially resolved in the 260 release (I noticed similar issues on my GTX460 SLI desktop machine until the 260 drivers hit).

It's quite frustrating as Just Cause 2 is running very nice indeed and is showing good gains from a GPU overclock.

EDIT - Have any of you guys tried the Arcania (Gothic 4) demo? I can't get it playable (above 25fps) at all. It seems to be stuck around 18-22fps regardless of the settings I use.

I am not overly fussed (as I didn't enjoy the demo on my desktop pc - despite the GPU grunt) but I get annoyed when I can't get a game at least playable, especially when games such as JC2 are more than playable.

I have patched F1 2010 with the 1.01 patch and WOW. Prior to patch I would be lucky to get 20-25 FPS on a mix of low/medium.
I have just done one lap at a Grand Prix in Monaco and benchmarked with Fraps. This was on the preset setting of ULTRA!!(shadows medium) and 2xAA!!

    2010-11-07 22:13:37 - F1_2010_game
    Frames: 3373 - Time: 112341ms - Avg: 30.025 - Min: 24 - Max: 39

    Using 260.99 drivers TS TDP/TDC 8 20/60 EVGA OC 520/885.

I can now properly enjoy this game with some nice eye candy. :D

    Anybody running DoD: Source?

I can't get more than 20 FPS, even on lowest settings.

Surely that is something off? I get great FPS in L4D, L4D2, Half Life 2, etc, all playing on high-highest settings.

Granted these are like running a Lamborghini in first gear in a school zone, but I've always loved the Thexder series by Sierra! (works great in DosBox) I hooked my old Roland MT32 up to my m11x via a USB/MIDI jack. Gotta love that classic sound. :3 System Shock was cool too

Well I am chuffed, I have finally got Mass Effect 2 to play nicely on my R1 after a little tweaking.

I have been finding that the game was running fine (apart from the stutters which occur when you enter a new section - I assume this is HD thrashing which won't be solved until I swap out the HD for a faster model / SS) but on occassion the framerate would drop to below what I would consider playable (sub 22-25fps). Most notably this would occur when on the Normandy looking directly ahead from the CIC (towards Joker), I noted framerates as low as 18fps in this section.

Finally after a bit of tweaking (I will get onto that in a min) I have not seem framerates in the same section drop below 28fps.... :D

Anyway the only change I made was to tweak the DeafultEngine.ini file found in the following folder:

(drive steam is stored on)\Steam\steamapps\common\mass effect 2\BioGame\Config

I changed the highlighted line below (Texture size) from 2048 to 1024.

I seem to remember there was the option to do this in game in ME1 but there are no texture options at all in ME2 (I assume it automatically determines the texture size by the amount of Vram you have).

Doing a bit of further testing it does look like dropping this one setting (which as far as I can tell makes no difference to the image quality) can improve the gameplay experience. I assume the simple lack of memory bandwidth on the 335m (25.28GB/s) is the limiting factor here (even clocking it as far as it will go on my GPU (1800mhz) yields only 28.8GB/s). It's a shame the 335m couldn't have been fitted with faster GDDR5 memory to make up for its 128bit memory interface.

Ironically Just Cause 2 shows no change by going to 'Low' textures from 'High' textures, mind you there is bugger all image quality difference there either.

Oh well we can't have everything :( :p

Anyway sorry for the long post but hopefully this will be of help you anyone who wishes to improve performance in ME2.

I am currently playing classic "Splatterhouse 2" on ye olde emulatore. :) I pre-ordered the new one for PS3 off Amazon today. I heard it comes bundled with the classic trilogy (arcade for SH1, not including the crappy TG16 version.) Had a $15 credit too. Ahh the memories! Good ol' Friday the 13th rip off. It was one of the Genesis games my mother never wanted me to play hehe

Does anyone tested the FFXIV benchmark? I really don´t care about the game, just did the test, and I got 1150 in score in 720p mode, around half of that in 1080p, also, in other forums most people got 3000-5000 in the score (with more powerful desktops)

But the thing is, the CPU never went over 50% it was always 40%-50%, I guess it was the GPU the result of the low score...

I herd some time ago that the benchmark was wrong or bad, never went to chech it that time....

Has anyone been able to get Bioshock from GFWL to cooperate? I'm getting hung up on loading screens and won't progress unless I alt+tab or windows out and then the game reverts to windowed mode and finishes loading. At this point I'm able to switch back to fullscreen and play but it's pretty frustrating to have to do this every time the game needs to load something.

I know this is pretty ancient by now but I'm having trouble getting FEAR Combat to run smoothly.

I've added it to the white list, tried with the GT335 as the default card, tried with all settings at their lowest, just about everything I can think of and it still ticks and stutters.

    Welcome
Does anyone of You can play in Two Worlds 2007. I have a problem that the game goes to the desktop after a few minutes without any error message. I tried the various modes of compliance . R1 .

The original FEAR can't run on Windows 7, even with compatibility settings, from what I hear. I managed to get Perseus Mandate going and even Extraction Point, but FEAR will not start for anything. I'm surprised the multiplayer can even start.

Can anyone help me with Battlefield 2? It opens up but within a few second it crashes to desktop and shows up in the taskbar. Clickin on it again repeats the same issue. I have bf2 in my whitelist.

Also what do you think about the temps?
