I think I only read about that being an isolated problem on the R2.

Hi guys, I apologize if this has been posted before, but has anyone tried Splinter Cell Conviction? I heard Ubisoft finally killed that stupid DRM and was considering getting it on steam since it's only like $20 bucks...I've always been a serious fan of stealth ops games like Metal Gear (see sig)

Alpha Protocol works just fine on my Alienware M11x R2. It runs fine at 45fps - 60fps.

Considering that it is running Unreal Engine 3, you should have no problem running it on your machine, and will get similar framerates as what I have gotten. The difference between C2D CPU --> Core i5/i7 CPU is irrelevant to UE3 engine games.

It runs slightly slower on my Alienware M11x R2 than Dead Space 1 did. If you got 50fps - 60fps on Dead Space 1, expect 40fps - 50fps on Dead Space 2 at around medium graphics settings.

It runs on the Godfather game engine, which is GPU bound (and not CPU bound). You should get similar framerates as what I get.

I'm in the process of trying to run through an issue where I get some pretty nasty mouse lag in the game menus.

I got a question. I've searched throughout the forum about it but I'd like a few more details.
Does anyone here play Flight Simulator X? At what settings and system specs? My R2 is currently being checked by brazilian customs so I guess it should be in my hands in a week or so. Another game I'd like to know about is Spore, but I'm not sure if I'll play it when I get my M11x

I did actually, seems to perform well on low gfx settings, ok on medium...I get choppy moments on high. Much to my chagrin, Ubisoft's DRM fix was that you don't have to have *continuous* internet connection (you just need to be online in order to boot the game, despite Steam's offline function.) So I couldn't play it while not at home lol, oh well. I've got Chaos Theory for that. :) Conviction is pretty cool though. I picked up Double Agent for the PS3 while I was at it.

I've got both on PS3, but how does DS1 run on the m11x? Do you get a decent framerate? I didn't think either would be playable. This little machine keeps impressing me more and more every day.

I really want to get dead space 2, however I have had no luck whatsoever getting DS1 to run on my M11x R2 :(
I've tried reinstalling from steam, changing my nvidia drivers (260.99, 266.44, 266.65) and checking the integrity through steam. All I get when I lauch the game is visible change to a lower resolution and the windows loading mouse symbol and it crashes out to desktop with 'deadspace.exe has stopped working' at a loss right now as I don't want to spend a further £30 if I get the same result - any help guys?

Absolutely, the framerate is entirely fluid even with the graphics maxed out (Minus AA/AF); And I was pleasently surprised that this is true also in combat.

It is totally acceptable on R1. There are jam animation when I turn the mouse quickly, but I can live with that. Thanks .

Hi, I done a search of this thread for posts relating to STALKER. Found quite a few related to SoC and CoP, but nothing regarding STALKER Clear Sky. has anyone got Clear Sky running nicely on the M11x R2? I downloaded it from Steam last night and got it running, but it's dog-slow at 5-10 FPS (this was even reducing the settings quite a bit). And I am definitely running it with the 335.. I whitelisted the exe in Optimus.

Can anyone share what settings they have and what sort of performance they get?

For some reason, I can't disable full-screen in Monopoly 2008 (I prefer windowed so I can see other programs working). I've played it multiple computers, over the years, and I haven't seen this problem.
I'd pin it on the video card drivers, but the setting is greyed out in the game.
I've not played it on an nvidia chip, before.
This is an R1, if that might help diagnose it.

I haven't played any good games yet, I've been stuck with a crappy computer for years and can't play anything really, but I just purchased a new Alienware M11X and want to know what everyone's thoughts are of what they think the best games are?

I like playing First person shooter games like Call of Duty, even though I only played it once... Halo is cool and the only one I can play on my crappy computer right now is Wolfenstein Enemy Territory online, which that game is fun.

I like Driving/racing games and Grand Theft Auto too, I modded GTA SA and created a whole new game from it, new cars, maps, weapons, graphics, buildings, everything!

Borderlands is a great game, FPS/RPG. Also Fallout 3 and fallout new vegas are very entertaining. If you are into a scary games I recommend dead space 1&2 for more of sci-fi look into mass effect 2. All games are playable medium/high settings.

Josh has some great recommendations. I'd add either of the Left For Dead games too. The original Mass Effect is also choice and both play splendidly on the 11x. Torchlight is my current obsession.

I'd recommend F.E.A.R. and it's expansion Extraction Point. Seconding both Dead Spaces and Mass Effect 1 and 2 is pretty neat. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic is a neat first person RPG but it may not be that stable for you. Risen is a great third person RPG that runs amazingly. You could always go with Half Life 2 as that's a pretty good one too. Sadly, that's all I have in my games folder at the moment.

and on a side note, finally got patched up to play on my private server with WoW(patch 3.3.5a) and oh my god it's a difference from playing on all low settings on my netbook to ultra on my m11x. it's amazing!!!

If the gameplay I saw on youtube is the same that you are talking about(i7 playing Anno 1404) It seems he is only OC'd to 150mhz and not using throttlestop. I would assume one could potentially add 10 fps easily with higher OC combined with throttlestop, even with core i5.

Sounds good.. I decided to torrent it first (to test if it runs smoothly enough), my i5 is over-clocked to 166MHz (via BIOS). I'll throttle stop if required.. though I really don't want to go messing around over-clocking (complete computer illiterate here).

If you are overclocking your R2 in the bios to 166.0 MHz, you should look into using ThrottleStop. If you don't use ThrottleStop, whenever your CPU gets fully loaded, your overclock will send the CPU over its turbo TDP/TDC power limits and it will reduce the multiplier and the speed your CPU is running at. The result is that a fully loaded and overclocked M11x-R2 can end up running slower compared to when it is running at its default base clock speed. That's been proven when testing with the wPrime benchmark.

Default Core i5-520UM clock speed with full turbo boost when loaded:
    133 x 12.0 = 1600 MHz

Overclocking to 166 MHz can disable all turbo boost so when fully loaded:
    166 x 8.0 = 1328 MHz

Overclocking while using ThrottleStop to maintain full turbo boost when loaded:
    166 x 12.0 = 2000 MHz

When overclocking a Core i7/i5 UM CPU, ThrottleStop becomes a necessity if you are interested in increasing your overall performance.

Played Test Drive Unlimited 2 yesterday.

I don't know what is up with that game, but I couldn't break 23fps on low settings on my 1920x1080 display. This induced game breaking lag on my controls.

GPU overclocked to MAX on EVGA Precision
Cpu overclocked to 166 w/ throttle stop, multiplier stable at 15
It only really loaded up one core, so perhaps that's an issue.

1080p could be the problem, try native res, if you still have problems, is (of course) other thing the problem...

I got Battlefield Bad Company 2, and runs awesome in my i5 m11x, I did a video with fraps and there is also the setting I´m using:

YouTube - Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the Alienware m11x R2

    Settings:
    http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b245/VIdaluko/BFBC2Game2011-02-0823-40-09-81.jpg

And like the description says, I´m gonna play with the settings a little more to see if I can get better visuals with the same frames.....

Tested 3 new games on my Alienware M11x R2 core I7. unoverclocked. All games are Steam versions...

    1. Torchlight - runs max settings, 100+ FPS
    2. Grand Theft Auto 4 - runs 30-50 FPS outside, 60+ FPS indoors. Turned off shadows and turned down view distance. All other settings medium.
    3. Team Fortress 2 - runs 30-60 FPS with all max settings. Turn down HDR/Bloom for a FPS boost.
