I wanted to find out if there are many of you that have a gap on LCD screen. Mine is on the bottom right side, it looks like lcd is slightly warped and if I push it inside it goes back out of the alignment after I close and open notebook a few times.

It would be really helpful if you took a picture of it. I currently do not have one but it would be good for future reference.

Yikes when you said gap I thought you meant a small gap between the plastic screen and the plastic trim, not the entire edge of the screen warping out...definitely give Dell a call about this one asap. Also can you resize that pic just a tad lol, it stretches out my entire window.

Klas, that is definitely not what I was thinking, mine has a little one on the top but its barely noticeable...yours is literally sticking out.

I agree with villosa, call dell...

my initial guess of this gap is the temperature.

i dont think its the temperature of the laptop causing the issue since the heat vent is on the left and that gap is on the right. Well if this turns out like the m15x it would be on engadget again. AW never provided a fix for that laptop :(

I meant the temperature of the surrounding, cause the material to deform/expand. I am not sure. I just trying to give it some logical reasons.

The reason is sloppy assembly, not the temperature. LCD never heats nowhere near as much for the plastic or whatever the LCD cover is to expand noticeably. (Yes, not even on xps m1330.)

If the plastic cover surrounding the screen assembly is similar to the XPS m1330 though, it might have these plastic tips that are holding it (no screws). In that case it's possible you need to release one of these holders and click it back together onto the appropriate one. Also it's not clear to me whether the entire screen is bent or just the plastic cover (I have CCFL instead of LED so I'm not sure how thick it is.)

Yeah, bad build. Either the panel is warped, or something is stuck behind there, like a foam gasket folded over or something.

Send it back. I would in a heartbeat.

I am requesting replacement, but not only for this issue. This particular design flaw doesn't really affect gaming performance. My main issue with the notebook is fan gets stuck at highspeed even after cooling down cpu.

Not that you need another opinion, but WOW what a flaw! You should schedule your repair with Dell right away.

Regarding getting your laptop replaced because the fan is always running, that's ridiculous. The fan isn't that loud on this laptop and the processor always runs cool. The only reason your laptop would be replaced is if the opposite were true. If your CPU stays under 60 degrees celsius and the fan runs constantly, it sounds like you've got a normal Alienware.

I already contacted Alienware support and the tech guy requested this picture.. After a 30 minute call and brief hold the tech guy said they'll escalate this matter and take care this for me. Whatever that means... I would rather just get replacement and be done with it. He also mentioned that since I am within their 21 day policy I should've called customer service instead.

Can those of you who are having this issue please send me a private message with your name, service tag information, and phone number? If your issue is not identical to the photo attached on page one, a picture of your specific issue would also be highly appreciated.

Should we call in or just message you? I'd really prefer a cross ship replacement, since this is my only PC, and dispatching a tech with a new screen would require me to take a day off work unless they can do weekends(which is more valuable than this laptop)

I just noticed I have this issue, though mine is not (yet) quite as bad as his pic. Same spot though...

EDIT: Just PMed you, nice to see Aw reaching out proactively. I really like the unit but this is going to drive me nuts..

    Thanks,

Wow, Alienware support can post on forums. That's convenient.

I'd get fired if my company found out I was posting support on forums, claiming to be an employee of said company.

Good luck on the cross-ship, and don't be too angry if they turn you down. Cross-ships normally mean you have to pay the retail price of another laptop which gets refunded when they receive your replacement. That's not a problem if you have a high credit limit, but you should be aware of it. Also, I don't know how they'd do a cross-ship if you have a customized box. I mean... unless you want to go through the build phase, again. :p

If they promise cross shipping I can wait through build phase, this unit is usable, it's just not what I'd like to keep permanently because of this quality issue. If they wont do it, I'd likely just refund and buy something else. I like this machine but I just went a few weeks without a laptop while waiting on this and I am not willing to do that again. They are not all that customizable though, and so long as it has 4gm ram, 7300, and is black, I'm good to go.

If they can send a tech over sometime when I'm home (ie- not during 8am-5pm on weekdays) with a perfect screen to swap, that'd be fine by me, I just doubt they can arrange that. The unit is almost perfect otherwise, the keyboard is a little messed up, but it does not BSOD or use the fan 24/7 or anything. If they can fix it with no shipping I'd prefer it, as I've wasted a day or so installing things on this before noticing the issue.

I have no experience with their in home service, but my assumption (no offense to dell or aw) is that it is inconveniently going to be available 9-5 on weekdays and therefore worthless, I'm not losing a few hundred dollar vacation day to have a $1000 laptop fixed when I can just return it ;)

I have no issue paying for another unit temporarily for cross shipping, these are cheap. I assumed the process would involve a hold on a card, like with Nintendo or other companies that cross ship items.

Not really going to get into it since I dont want to derail this thread which is about another issue, but:
The f g h j k l part of the center row are all kind of warped, like they all have a slight tilt and are not 100% level like the other keys. It is pretty minor, so I was going to ignore it, but the screen gap / peeling edge thing.. I can't get past, since it seems to be an issue that will get worse.

Received mine today and I have the same exact screen issue. I just emailed tech support to get this resolved.

I read online a guy already had a tech come to his house to replace the screen...

PS yes the keyboard is warped but honestly I didn't even notice until I read that here. Doesn't make me type any slower so not a big deal..

Easy, they need to input a valid mail for register in here, the system send him a verification link, and thats all, the mods can see if the server where the mail was sent is a trusted and real server and well, do the math

Just out of curiosity, how does the DELL part replacement work? Do they send the part and give you the option to replace it yourself or do they always send a tech so they install it for you?

They are sending a tech to my work tomorrow (I work in IT anyhow) so they are replacing it. I spent probably 5 mins on the phone. Was hassle free, not sure why other people are having issues with support.

All of these have NEXT day support. I got an email my part was shipped so there isn't an issue tomorrow.

I will however ask the tech about that warped keyboard, seemed kinda odd, I wonder if thats the way it was designed though...

It really doesn't bother me as I can still type fine.

You may want to PM Brian again, yours is a bit worse than mine from your pic(though I also have a decent sized gap at the top to go along with this.. I can see inside the screen) and I think Dell wants examine them to determine the root cause. They are sending me a new one, and mine is going to Dell for examination. I got the impression on the phone I will not be sitting through normal build time.

Hey, maybe this will even get the factory or supplier who caused the mess to correct it going forward, that'd be pretty cool.

Yep. just got mine and the screen isn't flush on the bottom left side and is warped too. Very dissapointing.

Edit: I pushed it back flush, I shall now keep my eye on it overnight. No problem with the keyboard tho.
