Those aren't on the Windows 7 disc they give you? It's just a plain disc? Stupid! Maybe I'll just keep it as-is and just uninstall McAffee...it just feels wierd coming from a background of building every computer I've ever owned pretty much, haha.
-
-
Yup I tried installing with the disk and it only shows ones alienware graphic when installing and then once the os is up its' all totally stock from the looks of it. Can't find any alienware loging screens, wallpaper or avatars.
Kinda sucks -
You guys didn't get a Resource Disk?
-
ProfessorShred Notebook Evangelist
your friend
-
but if you create a recovery disk straight away there isn't a problem no?
-
Does it have the little alien head in system properties with that disc? The avatars and wallpapers and login you can totally restore yourself. I have a folder of all of them. What other custom stuff is there?
-
process is exactly the same for the m11x...one of the first things i did when i got my system so i have a usb restore key. -
Where can I find these new drivers, like the synaptics...are they listed on a thread with links?
-
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5974841&postcount=559
All other drivers are available via support.dell.com with the exception of the Cyberlink Cam software - which is available via smartsource.dell.com. -
@jsgiv = put it in your sig. Very helpful
-
-
I asked how to replace that login screen like in Part 2 of the owner's lounge and never got an answer.
Strange, my login speed dropped like crazy after I disabled the facial recog....
-
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5382-log-screen-change.html
Does that help? You'll need to find the logon screen though. -
-
can we re-install the antivirus tht ships with AW after we format??
I am getting 15months sub with my m11x.. but i donno if there ll be like any key or anything.. coz the current mcaffee i use is like online registered.. once registered i cant reinstall it again :| (i mean after clean format) i just considers as already activated :|
any inputs? -
Thats weird, no key? I imagine there will be something.
Thats my problem. I don't WANT McAffee. I want to use MSSE. I don't even need an AV, honestly, but I especially don't want a goofy pay one. Can anyone vouch that it doesn't suck? -
I used MSSE for some time and it worked for me. Not a fan of Mcafee but gonna leave it there for about a year then pop in something else.
-
I use MSSE.. used to use avg.. never really gave me a problem.. and wasn't a resource hog imo
-
MSSE rocks. I really don't want to have to use McAfee or even have it installed...maybe it's not that bad?
-
It just came free, so I'll use it. If there was an option to remove it and save some $$$ I would have, hands down
-
http://tweaks.com/software/tweakslogon/
Logon screen/background is included with the package installer I referenced earlier. -
Oh it's included in that m17x pack? Nice!
-
So I went to the alienware site and the Synaptics driver there is the same one installed on the computer.
Where are you all finding the newer driver and what's the version?
BTW...seems everything at the alienware site matches what's installed...is there a thread that lists whats new and where to find? -
I got the newer Synaptics driver from synaptics website.
-
How about a link, cause I went there and the driver is older. The only thing different there is the Scrybe driver/tool.
-
Scrybe will install v15.0.2 of the Synaptics driver. This driver was assembled on 1/7/2010 according to the control panel info. This is the current version.
Even if you choose to uninstall Scrybe, it will retain this driver ver. -
So I installed the drivers but the
1) Two Finger Scrolling
2) Pinch and Zoom
Does not seem to work -
Curious, and not sure if this is the right thread to ask, but I have my M11x running great, totally happy, and have a ton of games installed that have been activated, authorized etc with their lame DRM.
Here's my problem: Alienware is sending me a new M11x to swap for my current one, exact configuration, was wondering if Windows would let me swap the physical hard drives so I don't have to go through the entire process of reinstalling all the games and wasting another authorization/activation for each game? Or will Windows see the new machine as a completely new hardware and refuse to run?
Thanks! And for those curious, Alienware took a very pro-active approach and after a concern with my unit, they are wanting to look at it with their techs to see if it is an isolated issue or something they could prevent in the future, so offered to have a new one built for me and shipped while I'm using this one. Great service and couldn't ask for more in my opinion.
And loving the M11x still, great machine, and thanks for all the tips in this thread. -
My new one is finally at least showing an order #, but it just sitting in pre production. Took them 5+ days just to get the order in after agreeing to send a new one on 3/3. -
-
Travis is right enabled mine works perfect
-
-
can I remove the cisco leap, peap, and eap modules? what are these??
-
-
thanks sole blaze, I think I'll remove them and see what happens =)
-
i try and oc with evga precision but it just resets back to normal as soon as i hit apply anyone know why?
-
Tips worked gr8.. but fan seems to annoy me a bit..with its random buzzing at almost small interval time.. even when cpu usage or its temp is not high..
wish alienware fix this ASAP.. I hope it not be that audible in my class room :|
I donno why its picking up some speed even in intel graphics.. weird. -
@red = Sometimes when you switch back to IGP the Gt335 is still running so the fan has to run or else there will be melted stuff. As for it being loud, I can safely say it won't get the people next to you in class hankering that you switch it off (based on noise disturbance, if they're jealous that's another thing
) cause I use mine in the lecture hall and my neighbours breathing was audible over it.
-
Slowly getting used to it.. i think my room is too quiet
removing all tht junk s/w really helped ease my CPU
Should connect it to external display and see if the cpu is shoutingthen i ll do tht stuff bat told
Was busy installing all the basic programmin n graphix stuff till now.. and shud see how games ll look in this beast..
Also installing DirectX from the site really helps with some weird errors while installing graphic programs like maya..
I got some missing dll errors... installing directx from the site resolved all those stuff.. -
@red = Lol, doesn't take too long. Plus I have like gigglers and tramplers on the same floor in my dorm so a little fan noise isn't exactly "loud". Btw, update your sig.
I want to reinstall but am too darn lazy.

hey sorry I haven't tried it yet, been using work computer. am away from my M11x, although I might not worry about it anymore since I'm getting a replacement sent my way.

The superbar should do what rocket dock does without needing extra crap!
Updates also shouldn't slow stuff down. Did you reformat yourself or use it as it came? I'm thinking I should reformat on arrival... -
It'd be nice to just not have to reformat a branded computer for once. Save me the time, thats some of the price! I just don't want McAffee but I can live.
The Alienhead at startup is the BIOS, so that doesn't do anything. I think the command center and etc is essential to the computer so those shouldn't junk stuff up either, you know?
I haven't dealt with viruses since XP. lol.
I would say dump rocketdock and use the superbar. It's essentially the same thing and you might as well save the resources. Have you tried using it as such? Thats one of the awesome things about Windows 7. A lot of stuff doesn't need to be tweaked out like on stupid Windows XP. A lot of stuff is there from the get go. Not a ton of maintenance. -
the "superbar" is a feature in Windows 7. It IS the task bar where all the running program's icon are. By right clicking on the desired item and selecting "pin this program..." you can have the program pinned to the task bar and launch the program from there like you would on rocket dock.
-
It's like a mix of the start bar and OSX bar.
-
I dont like pinning thing.. I am fine with my good old rocketdock..
Can any1 confirm updating win7 ll make rocketbar crazy?? This thing is telling me to update my win7.. I donno if i should do it or cancel it for now :|
