Hey guys, I have been reading notebook reviews for some time and I think its time for me to get a laptop. The laptop would be for university, and the M11x looks like a good computer to get (to run programs such as autocad, etc.) for engineering. The only problem is that I have been reading online about sales reps, and I have yet to find one that is willing to get me more then 5% discounts. The questions I have are:
    1. Is the m11x worth buying for university or would you suggest a different laptop for a decent price that would be small (11-13 inches) that is powerful enough to run some games and programs
    2. Is there a rep that is good from experiance?
    Thanks a lot!
I live in Canada by the way.

The M11x is arguably the most powerful sub 13" laptop on the market. I think this laptop will run autocad and whatever games you are wanting to play. Its a great laptop on battery as well. If you want to scale down performance and make it last through a class then you can do so. The battery lasts a while when running the intel card. As far as getting a deal on one of these bad boys, its a hit and miss situation. They run deals, but it seems to be random. You may also want to consider checking out refurbs if you are on a budget. I bought a refurbished m11x and I have had no problems with it and it showed up looking brand new off the shelf 6 months ago. Just keep checking the dell website for those deals, the reps wont always hand out decent deals. Good luck

    Ya thanks for the tip.
Where do I go about buying a referb though? theres no outlets I know of and the website does not list them (that I can find)
I am willing to get an r2 for a reasonable price, because I have a rig at home that can play maxed games. I just want a nice laptop thats light and can play games and run programs.

    Dell Outlet.

I can see at least a dozen M11x R2s on there now.

If you or anyone you know has EPP (Employee Purchase Program) You may be able to save a bunch! I used my dad's and I saved $200.

I'm studying Engineering at Uni and my M11xR2 runs AutoCAD 2012 perfectly.
Really, for portability and power, it cannot be beaten.

If you did feel that the resolution is a little bit limiting, hooking it up to a monitor does the trick.

I have not to much time with mine but 1 month later I can say it is working perfect I hope this continue to much time (of course) but in the past I try other notebooks from Sager, Hypersonic, Dell, Sony, Asus and Acer, in 11.6"-14"-15.6"-17" and this is one of the more powerful/portable I have used...

    I recommend it:

    Pro:
-Brand reputation (made before Dell but I think will continue)
-Size not a standard 11.6" size but just a little more large and wide not to much, but it is more thick, in my opinion nothing to worry.
-Very good battery life. I get more than 6 hours with Wifi on and in power saver, WWAN and Bluetooth OFF, and all lights off too(it last 6 hours and I go to sleep, it continue to show 17% of battery).
-Cosmetic, very nice and eye attractive, in red look goof but in black is more formal.
-Backlit Keyboard very good to work in the dark, in dark class rooms or at night.
-the lights are perfect for play and show and you can turn off all of them for discrete use in the university and for battery save.
-The Intel WIDI is very good for see movies in a standard TV
-The WWAN card is good for internet out of house or campus.

    Cons:
-The screen is not the best, but after a week I habituate and dont bother me.
-More heat than other 11.6" but the best in video card for games.
-Is heavier than other 11.6" but not to much.
-Battery is inside so you cant change it in the go without a screwdriver.
-Price of accesories /extras from Dell I recommend that you buy the memory and HDD from other vendors and order the basic like processor, WWAN, Bluetooth, etc... that are hard to change from you.

I'm in Canada too and was looking at purchasing the M11x but after the configuring the notebook online to my specifications, it got a little pricey. Since you're going to uni, have you checked to see if your university computer store has an student discount with Dell? You maybe able to negotiate a better deal. I don't believe there is a online Dell Outlet store in Canada. The closest website available is dfsdirect.ca/ but most are older off lease business notebooks.

For portability and able to run AutoCAD in the thin & light notebook category, there's always a Macbook Pro or Lenovo Thinkpad X-series notebook line. With Lenovo, they always have discounts on their notebooks with coupon codes on top of their sale prices.

Just from a personal standpoint - the m11x, if you can afford one, is a great companion in university. Its a compact but powerful. Has tons of battery if you need to take notes.

Beyond that if money is an issue I would also check out the Dell XPS line. They are bigger (15inch) but offer the same performance for about 200-300dollars less.

    I think I am gonna get the m11x r3
I got a quote for 1353$ after a 2 year warrenty and the sale price
So thats 100$ off the regular price that I woulda gotten not including the sale
