Other thread didnt help so I figured i'd post it here. Using the GPU Activity monitor, I noticed that my dedicated video card doesn't turn on when I play flash games (like on newgrounds or kongregate) but it does work for youtube videos. Im using the 259.47 video drivers and Flash 10.1 r82. Anybody else have this problem, or any ideas on how to fix it ? Thanks

See if adding C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugin-container.exe to the white list does the trick.

It doesnt let me add it, when I try to add it, it doesnt show up on the pull-down menu.

EDIT: Scratch that, it was on the pull-down menu but it's set as not being installed on my system...

    It shows up like so:

When I set plugin-container.exe to use the nvidia processor, it also sets firefox.exe to use it, but it still doesnt show up on the GPU Activity monitor

    ^It doesn't have a sim card reader.

The firewire port is for things with firewire :p, like some external hard drives, cameras, etc.

Are you sure it doesn't have a SIMcard reader? Because the alienware manual says so and I inserted an old simcard I had and fitted perfect.

I got my new M11x R2 a few days ago and there seems to be a weird high pitched squeaking sound coming from the bottom left of the laptop. Also when the laptop is plugged in, it doesnt seem to charge the battery. Can anyone help me with these problems?

Hi, what is the actual difference between the m11x R1 and R2?
    I've asked that question previously and someone said that the R1 has only the Core2Duo and the R2 has either the i3, i5 or i7, but I'm looking at the alienware site now and this is what see;

I'm just confused now, my M11x with an i5 is arriving tomorrow, should I be downloading the modded drivers for the R1 or R2?

Either way, the site isn't perfect. Once you start ordering, it should push you over to dell's site, which makes the distinction clear.

    R1:
    Core 2 Duo SU4100
    Core 2 Duo SU7300

    R2:
    Core i5 5xxUM (I don't remember... :().
    Core i7 640UM

You have a R2 revision. Lucky you, yours is arriving tomorrow! :D Yay! :D

So I've beens searching around trying to identify the beeping noise my M11xR2 and haven't found anything that quite matches the description. So, at random times, a single beep (not from the speakers but from inside the computer) randomly sounds. This doesn't happen when I boot up the computer, but at random times while the computer is running. It seems to be coming from right below the arrow keys from within the laptop. Anyone know what could be causing this and how I could fix it?

I hear a beep every so often also - no idea what it is or why it is beeping. It is a fairly soft beep. Sometimes it is a double beep.

My main concern is this hinge defect everyone is talking about. I watched some videos and my M11X seems to open without the gaps that are in the videos, does this mean mine should be ok or is this something that happens later? Trying to decide if I should just take it back to Best Buy since it is within the return period. I should say I absolutely LOVE this laptop - but really don't want headaches down the line.

Ive had some serious problems of late trying to play FFXIV online. I installed the game and set everything up. Everytime I click on the play button from the log in screen it'll attempt to boot the game and then it tells me only a second or so later that windows has encountered an error. This is the only game Im having problems with.

Does anyone else play FFXIV with their m11x r2?

*edit* Solved my problem. I found the solution in a post on this forum. Went into NVIDIA control panel and added the .exe for the game and put it under the GPU.

    No, there isn't :(

USB2 and USB3 have ONLY one difference - bus speeds. It's sortof like asking if you can convert 10/100 to GigE (I know GigE is also agnostic to data pinout, but please assume that is irrevelent in this comparison!).
You cannot - since the bottleneck is still the slower port your are converting from.

What has to be done? A native USB3 port has to be drawn from an USB3 controller, which (at this point) must be connected to the laptop's internal PCIe bus).

Right now, a few solutions exist (in terms of mPCIe cards), but they need extensive modding to work.

To recap: USB2-->USB3 are only seperated by speed, nothing else.

USB3 devices will work in USB2 ports. USB2 devices will work in USB3 ports.

also is it better to get the 8gb Ram in 1066 MHz ?
will it work on the m11x ?
is it worth paying that extra $250 for it ? for the ram
wonder if we can get it cheaper

    Thanks

Would be grateful for some help with the following:

    1) Should I be concerned about very soft clicking coming from the HDD? CrystalDiskInfo reports good health for what it's worth. It's definitely not the same sound as the 'click of death'.

    2) HWMonitor reports battery wear levels ranging from -7 to -58% (i.e. higher charge capacities than design). Anyone else see this?

    3) Anyone else have issues getting the BIOS password request screen to come up? I've enabled and set supervisor (and user) passwords and while I am asked for a password when getting into BIOS settings, it never comes up prior to loading Windows. Is there some other setting I'm haven't enabled?

And yes, I got the 8GB RAM, but only because where I live that was the only RAM option with the i7 proc.

I actually have that set and they have nice tight timings as well as OC, but if you want to save an additional 10 bucks there's also this set:

    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBSQ

for $160 shipped, $20 off with promo code EMCYXNW37, ends 10/4

It should run tighter timings when underclocked (which our AW's do by default).

My wireless randomly stopped working today(it could not fine any connections, but my other laptops can connect fine). It says it doesn't have the required drivers so I went onto dell's website but I don't know which driver is the correct one for my laptop. I have the R2 and I believe my wireless card is the default one. Any help would be great. Thanks

i bought my unit 2month ago, recently i'd just notice thers a low static/pinging sound emitted from my unit. its not that loud, its only audible when i place my ear closely behind my m11x.
the weird thing is, the sound is there even though i DID NOT powered it up...it disappears as soon as i unplug the battery from the unit thou....

anyone has any idea or is it serious? planning to leave it since it doesn't really bothers me. but thought i should ask just in case its some symptom that will leads to bigger issues...

    thanks

It's not serious. If I open my unit up, I hear the same sound, too - unless if I unplug the battery.
It's probably a capacitor or a coil in the standby circuit (the same one that polls the power button to see if you want to turn on the laptop).

Hi guys, I got my m11x few months ago and everything was alright up till last week, which was after I decided to install the file shredder (inclusive in the bundled Mcafee suite).

After shredding some files and cleaning my disk with it (disk cleanup), my started to face BSODs often (driver IRQL not less or equal blue screen error). Thinking that it was the nvidia drivers, i updated to the 289.xx, which the BSODs continued occurring. I took the last resort of formatting my comp , which kind of solved the problems, until I faced yet another BSOD again.

Currently on an i7 set up, with OC-ed 160MHz, just switched off OC at the moment to observe.

Tried googling for the problem but nothing showed up, anyone feedback/experience with this?

    Thanks!

I have seen blue screens and hard lockups a few times but only when I was overclocking. Mine would not do 166 but seemed fairly stable at 164 except for the occasional lockup. However that being said, I could not perceive (in my own testing or benchmarking) any gain what so ever when OC the CPU. This is probably because it simply has less times it can turbo boost on its own due to the way it manages the boosting. I found it easier to just remove the OC and run with no problems (and run faster or at least as fast) .

I did try to OC the CPU at various amounts, between 133 and 164 to see if at some point it would be faster than stock speeds but honestly I never saw ANY gains and only saw (granted few) blue screens and lockups.

I do OC the GPU and have had great luck with that (535/1275/875 if I remember right) and have had no problems with heat/lockups, blue screens etc. The CPU OC just seems like a lost cause to me. Can you do it? Sure! Does it make any difference? Not in my case. Just gives bragging rights :D

Enable it either in the mouse control panel, or in AlienSense (both configure the exact same options).

I don't know if this is multitouch, but since it uses the Synaptic drivers, it must be assumed the official drivers will enable multitouch, too.

One question about the battery, if I leave the Laptop plugged to the AC, does it work from the Outlet or is still the battery?

I used to remove the battery from my old laptop to use it in a 32" HDTV, and since is a little bit harder to remove the battery from the m11x....

I just want to know if the battery is gonna get weaker faster if I use the m11x most of the time plugged, or is gonna use the power from the outlet once the battery is 100% charged....
