I got a great GPU I guess, it'd not downclocking because of heat, I checked GPU while playing Borderlands and said it was running at those clocks

Your CPU is still hindering your machine hence the low score. At least that's my guess. I got around 6-7000 on my R2 and the only difference is a newer CPU (and the GPU was underclocked)

the reason its in the 4.2k mark is because it IS downclocking itself. not the cpu. with a good gpu overclock and when my cpu was at 1.6ghz i got 7k on 3dmark06. and at 1.73 i managed almost 8k.

A 4k score in 3Dmark 06 would be because of a driver crash. 90% of the time this happens is because of instability.

Just becasue you can more the sliders all the way over to the max doesnt mean your laptop will like it. also evey game is different you will notice some games allow a higher OC with out crashing while others may not run stabile at the same clocks.

You need to restart your pc for the driver to "fix its self" then you can re-test again.

try with the stock clocks after a fresh restart.

if your not getting around 5500-6500pts on stock clocks something may be wrong.

I know I'm a bit late but how did you get your CPU to 1.73? Mine only clocks up to 1.6 OC.

a pin mod. its where you take apart the laptop and cut pin 2 of the PLL chip.
the pin itself is only 1mm, very very tiny. and its not easy to do. but it gets you 1.73ghz.
