Anyone else have a problem where you put your M11x to sleep close it up and when you go to turn it back on the battery has completely died or close to it? I wait for my screen to go black before I close the lid etc....

this is a known issue with the M11x. when you put the computer to sleep, make sure that it goes fully to sleep before closing the lid. i think someone had a technical reason for why the M11x has problems if you close the lid while it is in the process of going to sleep, but it is definitely an issue either way.

i did it once and my comp was on for 2 hours in a backpack before i realized it. now, i make sure that it goes to sleep fully (i.e. the power button light starts its slow on/off cycle) before closing the lid, and i haven't had any issues since then.

I was the only one complaining about this for the longest time but now I am seeing it from others almost every day. I even put a video online and got bashed for opening and closing the lid too many times (people accused me of breaking the already broken hinge).

I think that there are two lid sensors, one to kill the backlight and one to trigger the OS. They probably overlooked some engineering aspect just because teh default setting is to sleep when closing the lid (I HATE that). The guy showing his Razer Orochi triggering the magneetic relay sensor found one, but I can't get my Orochi to do the same thing.

Soooo wait how long after the screen goes black to make sure it is fully asleep?

It's variable. Leave keyboard backlighting on and close only after the keyboard lights go out.

I don't have this issue, usually. But it only takes one time of taking it out at home after an hour in the trunk and almost burning yourself before you learn to make sure it's down before you pack it.

This happens to me on my R1. If I close the lid before it has fully gone to sleep or hibernate it won't finish and stay on. And if its in that state I would have to hard reset it to get it to come back up.

The solution is as they said, don't close the lid until it finishes going to sleep. You'll know its done when all the backlighting goes off (keyboard lights, the two hex lights above the speakers, panel alienware logo, etc).

The solution is for Dell/Alienware to make a BIOS update to address the ACPI issue but when I tried to get their attention while the r1 was still current everyone here refused to acknowledge it or blamed me for using non-default settings. Ugh.
