All,
I got my M11x r1 in March while I was happy with it at the time I was concerned about the processor speed being to slow. For the most part it can play games ok. I'm scared to try the new MOH beta. I just found out about the R2 models offering i5 and i7 processors. I called dell and asked could I get an upgrade or do a trade in both offers were rejected. My question to R1 owners is this how do you feel about this? I'm a little ticked that dell would do something like this, 3 months after getting the laptop dell releases a newer model.

Sorry, what's MOH?

medal of honor
the requirements for MoH are the same as BFBC2.. IMO BC2 runs fine, although on lows, it's smooth. So I would think MoH will play like that... considering the MP is made by DICE as well, you'll probably see just the same performance, hopefully better due to optimization Dice may have found and tweaked on their Frostbite engine. -
it is the way of the electronics. i originally ordered a m11x with a su7300 processor then cancelled when i heard about the update. even though i got lucky i know some people didn't
unfortunately this is how computers work. a few months go by and all the sudden something better is out. don't worry there will be a m11xr3 or something and all of us i7 people will be upset -
New owner thing skips a generation.

I'd love an i5 in my m11x, but it's still a great notebook with an SU7300. It's how hardware works.

It is not really very smart to upgrade R1 to R2, the performance upgrade is tiny to non-existent, and the next refresh will probably be a GPU refresh which will give us like 50% increased performance. Smart money is to wait for the R3, get the new processors and the new GPU all at once.
However, if you don't mind wasting money, you can sell your R1, get an R2 today, and then in 6 months sell it and get an R3. Much more expensive, but you always have the best. -
there no need much more in such tiny body, i mean the goal of m11x is been a portable game machine and the i5 and i7 is a good match with GT 335, if you want something powerfull , head for mx15.
but answering the post question, yeah i´m pissed with the situation cause we are talking about 4 months since they announced the m11x!!! -
While I understand that tech improvements are fast it's only been 3 months since I got this thing. Before I bought the machine I did do some research what i saw or thought I saw was that a new model wouldn't be out until the end of the year earliest but most likely next year. Not 3 months.

I see no problem here. Well yes, the released new version fast, but it’s just business. It’s not something like "dudes with r1 are dorks from now" just new revision and that’s all.
P.S. All this war shooters (like cod mw2, bad company 2, moh) they are all look the same for me. Just another game about boring modern war, about Americans saving humanity from terrorist and so on. I watched MOH presentation on E3 and thought that it was another COD game until i saw a title… Boooooring. Where are old times when every game was unique? I remember 1998: unreal, half-life, thief. That what I call interesting games, there was interesting plot, unique setting and complex gameplay. It was not todays crap about dirty soldier in dirty desert killing dirty guys. -
yeah I know it's a bumer Gokou00, it's too bad you didn't find these forums sooner. I think most people had a feeling that the M11x would be refreshed within a relatively short time. Although estimates were maybe October, June is not that bad. We had some insider information on possible i-series ULV being put into these.
Also most people on these boards are pretty smart, and we understood C2D was older technology, especially with arrandale being a big deal at CES when the M11x was announced. I knew i-cores would be put in sometime, so not a huge surprise come June here. Sorry dude. -
Don't stress about it. You buy a premium machine, it goes out of date within 6 months. It's the same for everyone, everywhere. Unless you are mega rich (and a bit mad!) you are never going to have the best all of the time.
It's not like consoles which are top of their game for a few years.
Enjoy the machine, start saving and get a new one every 2-3 years. Imagine what you will be able to get for the same price 2 years down the line. It is still a fantastic notebook. Enjoy it. -
When I first heard about the refresh I immediately wanted to sell my R1, so that I could get an R2. I spent the next few days placing ads for it. I can't tell you how many people tried to trade me their larger, older laptops for my M11x. Yeah right,...let me take your used old tech and give you my almost new M11x. After I calmed down from my i7 envy I took a good look at my R1, and decided I had no reason to get rid of it. I have been blessed with a solid, overclock-able with no BSOD M11x that has played everything I have thrown at it so far. That plus the fact that I just put an anti-glare filter on it 2 weeks ago.
I then came to my senses
From what I am seeing of the early benchmarks, the difference in performance is marginal. Some games have only gained an additional 2-3 frames per second. If I am going to go through the trouble of selling my current system I want more performance increase than that.
If and when an R3 comes out I might take another look. But for now I'm sticking with my trusty R1. -
