    That's... interesting....

I was hoping to find a sub-$600 deal on it soon now that R3 is almost here, not seeing the price jump $200 :(

Lame, looks like I'll be buying a $435 Asus 1215B (AMD E350 CPU) instead, since I don't really need gaming on the go, just figured it would be nice if it was around the same price point ($400-$600).

This is awesome cause now my i7 will maintain its value better.
Maybe this is indication that the r3 is imminent and dell wants to make prices stronger.

I'd wait for another promotion to save a couple of bucks. IMO, $800 is too much for the R1 at this point, especially since there are rumors of a new revision with Sandy Bridge CPUs coming soon.

I expect the R1 to vanish and the R2 to price drop significantly real soon due to the imminent R3 US/Can release, so hold on to your wallets, guys, and don't buy anything just yet.

Looks like you can already order the R3 on the german Dell site, and it's starting at €1049. So a $999 start point sounds pretty reasonable for the US market.

Another thing is with Dell you need to add tax to the purchase price since they seem to collect from each state... on a $600 purchase for me in NY thats another $48, not including whatever shipping is.

If I buy a netbook from Newegg, they don't charge any sales tax and shipping is probably cheap or free :)

I'll wait till next week to see what Dell does on Monday with the release of the R3, but if prices don't drop, gonna have to go with the cheaper netbook on this one.

(I have a beefy desktop to play games on anywho)

What if R1 stays after R3 is released? So there would still be c2d and i5/i7 options. Otherwise there will be i7 r2 and i5/i7 r3 options?? Could be confusing for uneducated consumers. The general population probably doesn't know sandy bridge from London bridge.

    Current i5 = 18W. Sandy Bridge i5/i7 = 17W.

    Current 335M = 28W. R3's 540M = 32W.

So, a smidge more battery life when not using the GPU, and a bit less when the GPU is in use. In real world terms, I'd guess a decrease of maybe 20 minutes while gaming.

It's a shame they can't finagle a lower-wattage display for these things. I don't know the TDP for the M11X display, but I wager it's equal or greater than the power draw of the GPu... I get 90+ minutes more battery when I play games with the lid closed and HDMI piped to my TV.

We don't know what it's TPL is.

    It's missing the i7 2657M. Performance increase depends on what we're comparing against. I'm guessing a SetPLL'd i7 can match the 2617M.

Just saw that the price went back down again. I am seriously considering ordering one of these at the $599 price point. This is for the R1 version correct?

Does this machine still hold up? Honestly I just want to use it to play some WoW and some of the Valve games on Steam (TF2, Counter-Strike Source). The $599 price point seems like a pretty good deal to jump on for a tiny gaming laptop like this. Or would it be wise to wait and see what happens with the r3. I'm just afraid they won't have something at this price point.

I'm not debating if the code works or not, it does. I'm debating that it's for the i7 model - R2.
That coupon code works on the R1 only. I tried it several times today.

Waiting for the R3 to release then hopefully the R2 price will drop.

I'm trying to get the lowest price possible. I would buy the $599 R1 right now if I didn't hear about a price drop on the R2. How much do we expect the R2 price to drop? Should I just get the R1 now or wait to see what happens tomorrow?

I thought about the same thing. You'll get better performance out of the R2 if you snag the i7 that you can overclock. Worth it in my opinion.
If you aren't even moderately playing games, you could probably get away with the R1.

If it gets a price drop i say it be like 799 or 899, So the ones that don't want too spend anymore than 599 i would get the r1, Because i very doubt the r2 will drop that low right now. Than if the r1 gets drop than the people that wants it for that price will be out of luck..

Even tho you can get really good deals on outlet sometimes you can get a r1 under 500$
