Anyone have a link to a parts listing for this model? I believe I have a R1 (7300 processor). I am missing three of the four rubber feet on the bottom of it. I have little plastic standoffs underneath, but the rubber is missing and the laptop is sliding around the desk, driving me crazy!!! I was wondering if it would be possible to order these...

    thanks

You can swipe the little rubber pads off of dead hardware (if you keep stuff like that). Used as "feet" will work depending on use.

I am in Hong Kong and when I asked Dell, they said that they don't carry spares and if I wanted to get it replaced, I had to physically get a brand new underside. For such a big company, it just seems like an oversight. These rubber feet are flimsy and come off easily, yet they don't carry spares to get it replaced. Why put it there when they think it is unimportant? Anyway rant over. As a DIY solution, I went to a home store and bought some non-slip pads that you stick on underneath the legs of chairs. Not very elegant but at least my R1 is not slipping and sliding.

They don't "carry therm in stock" because the M11x has been "discontinued" in the sense that the are no longer being manufactured, so at this point they are simply clearing out whatever stock they have left. In the past they have been known to send out brand new feet or even the entire bottom lid if it's under warranty.

The feet on my Asus G73 are horrible, literally the worst i've ever seen and just from being used on a desk half of the feet are already missing. but the feet on the M11x seem to be made of significantly better rubber and the adhesive is alot stronger.

I'm also using non-slip pads. Not sure of application though so it was a good idea to mention furniture. Most harware shops have these in varied sizes.

I have also used the feet from an old laptop. Worked great but recycled adhesive failed after a couple of months.

Just a FYI, the rubber feet are molded to a small plastic "base", these bases are then plastic welded (melted) to the chassis. While it is possible to replace them, you have to cut the old ones off, then glue the new ones back on.

Or, you can order some of these.

I started a thread on dells idea storm to get them to produce laptops with these built into the chassis.

Just to clarify, this incident happened when the R3 just came out, I have an R1, the rubber feet wouldn't have lasted until now. They refused to send out a brand new underside or even do anything about it even though my warranty runs until 2013; hence my rant.

Think my warranty is around the same time. I just went on chat last night with Dell tech support and got them to ship me a replacement hdd bracket. They almost wanted me to send my laptop to depot... but went ahead and continued to ship the part to me.

What's the reason for refusal to repair your laptop that's under warranty by Dell? I get a lot of hassle from them trying to "verify" stuff but they usually end up getting it done... so I'm surprised they would deny service for a system that's still under warranty. I'd be talking to their manager by now.

No offense, but you are in Hong Kong. I'm sure they have the highest percentage of "warranty replacements" which find themselves on Ebay being pawned off overseas. They'd be losing money if they sent off feet & lids every time someone with warranty requested it.

Also, the R1 was being discontinued around the time the R3 came out, so i would imagine they either legitimately had no spare parts or it's purely because of your region.

Just realised my rubber feet are dropped off somewhere for my m11x as well, didn't noticed it until i realised there's a large scratch underneath my m11x due to constant slipping on the table  Took off the old rubber feets from another old laptop and stick em on using double sided tape.

Anyway the rubber feets for the m11x are very easy to get lost due to the design flaw, other laptop manufacturer has a plastic base surrounding the feets so that they do not get pull off easily not for m11x though :(

They just told me that they would be tight fisted and would only replace it for me for a fee because the rubber feet were non-essential, so paying extra for more warranty only guarantees me the most essential parts, you could argue both way; all I did was make an observation.

Well i know they have been known to send out free feet & lids to people in the US & Australia (and maybe the UK). So i was just speculating as to why it wasn't being offered in your region.

It is most probably a case of regular warranty VS complete care warranty. Complete care covers everything, regular warranty doesn't cover cosmetics.

I've had this problem on several M11x systems despite being hyper-aware of the issue and, thus, extremely careful.

Additionally, the base plate that the plastic base is attached to is stamped much too deep and the tiny square indentation sometimes sheers cleanly from the rest of the baseplate. This happened on three different baseplates despite rarely using it on a hard surface. My M11x R3 lost a rubber foot after 4 months of constant babying. They are dismissive of such a small issue but I believe it reflects poorly on the Alienware brand. Anyone could tell you that they need more surface area than those tiny rubber feet provde to deal with any sheer forces REGARDLESS of how large the other feet are.

Another issue: Eventually the adhesive breaks down on the palmrest rubber that keeps the LCD from touching the keys and body when closed. This has happened eventually on almost every laptop I've owned though. At least this one doesn't have rubber screw plugs/covers that leak the liquifying adhesive all around the screen.

    o_O

Had my R3 for 6 months now, it has been moved around at least every day and used somewhere different, and my feet & the soft-touch finish are in perfect condition.

Also the feet under the palm rest are supposed to grip the table with the pressure of your palm(s) resting on it, hence why they are long while the ones at the back are purely for spacing. The laptop itself doesn't have enough weight to actually grip itself to surfaces properly, and tbh for something as portable as this i think huge rubber feet may have been a hindrance.

He is talking about the pads near the keyboard.

I've been using almost since new extra pads/bumpstop doodads on my system. Initially near the orig ones below keyboard but now on the lcd bezel to each side of camera. Didn't prevent hinge mount failure the first time but I'm still on the old school panel. Keys are further from screen also.

Ah he edited that in while i was typing lol.

My lid spacers had some of the adhesive leaking out when i got it lol, i just took a knife and "trimmed" it and it seems to be holding up thus far. But surely it would ultimately fall off first >_>

For the keyboard and lid separators, my DIY solution was more desirable since all I did was cut the shop bought pads to the correct size and then jammed it into the hole and closed the lid. The adhesive seems to be holding on and it hasn't been a problem.

I had the same problem prior to my M11X breaking this week, one of the little feet came off, but I found it. (A lot of good it does me now!) Mine would slide to the right whenever I put it on my cooling pad.

Not to hijack the topic, but does anyone know if the M11X and M14X have a similar footprint? I used a Rocketfish netbook cooler and I would hate to buy a bigger one.
