    Howdy

I'm looking to get an M11x R1. However it appears that they no longer have them listed on Dell.com nor does the coupon for it here work anymore. This was further confirmed when I talked to a rep today trying to purchase one and, in his words, the $599 price tag was clearance for it.

So I'm curious, does anyone know if there are any M11x R1s still be had? Either from a retailer or a refurbisher? Google didn't help me much, simply showing me links to the R2 and R3.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

If there aren't any on the outlet store I think your only option would be to find someone selling one used.

Ya, according to the rep there are no more available. I didn't really press him on it, maybe there are some left...

By outlet do you just mean Dell Oulet? They have a couple of R1s there, but they are still abit pricey.

Do you know if these outlet models can be negotiated down any, vis a vie this thread?

Maybe a little, but I wouldn't expect it.

If you wanted the 599 dollars one for the minimum specs, then you definitely missed the chance. If you are willing to live with the same CPU but higher RAM and/or HDD space for higher price, then there are retail stores that have them available. If you're reading to the point of 800 dollars, then I would recommend purchasing an R2 or R3 instead.

I didn't realize it was a clearance deal thing or I woulda snagged it then. :(

And ya, considering the cheapest they have at that outlet link is $839, I think I'd just cough up the extra and get a new R2, but sadly that's more than I want to spend; I don't need a laptop that expensive, gaming capabilities or not, I have a desktop for that.

Guess I'm back to looking at the HP dm1z.

Well, actually it looks like eBay might provide an alternative. Tempted now, very tempted.

Yes I was Thacker. Literally like 2-3 days ago they still had some R1s on there for like 599 or something. I don't remember the specific prices but there were a couple there the other day that seem to be gone now.

Well, for the price, HP isn't bad either.

    Newegg.com - HP Pavilion dm1-3020us Notebook AMD Dual-Core Processor E-350(1.6GHz) 11.6" 3GB Memory 320GB HDD 7200rpm AMD Radeon HD 6310

475 after rebate... and no tax or shipping in what, 48 states? :)

Can't beat the m11x but...for the price, it's pretty good.

    If you really want m11x r1, Newegg.com - DELL Alienware AM11x-2277CSB Notebook Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300(1.30GHz) 11.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 7200rpm NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M

I know, I know. It's 850. Sooner or later, Newegg will want to sell it off and will sell it for cheap. Keep checking on it. Newegg had another version with the exactly same spec (currently out of stock) for $650 for awhile. I snatched this. You could wait for the one I linked prices to go down.

Why is Newegg selling them for so much? I thought they were $699?

    Sad day... :(

Tech must move on... Newegg should get some R3s and sell the remaining R1 at a reduced price.

Actually, I'm hoping the R3's will drop in price end of this year maybe cyber Monday, like the R1's did last year. Got mine for $499 SU7300, 500GB HDD, 4GB DDR3.

Well, after a long search and a near buy from a guy on Craigslist (jerk randomly sold it to someone else after he stood me up...) I found a large selection of M11xs on the Dell Outlet tonight.

One of them was a 320g 4g 1333 beauty for $599. It is now mine.

Pretty much exactly what I was looking for (sans it being brand new) at the perfect price. Very satisfied. Now I just need to fight with Dell support to get a new custom name plate.

Yeah, there's some for $599 with 4GB RAM 250GB HDD, and some base models with 160GB HDD for $509 and 2GB RAM.

The r1 is still a great machine, I like the battery life and being able to be the one to decide what graphics card to use.

Just picked one up from the outlet for $509. Just need to keep looking throughout the day.

    There's one for $579 currently.

    Good Luck.

I agree. Manual switchable graphics is the best solution for a true gaming laptop. And yes, battery life it great, not sure how good it is on the R3's though?

Yikes! $849 for an R1? With the $75 coupon available right now, you can get a base-configuration R3 for $925, that has the same amount of memory, same hard drive, and a way better processor and GPU.

I think the R1 was a bargain at $599 for clearance, but if you're going to grab an M11x in the $850 range you might as well get an R3.

There are still base 160GB 5400RPM HDD 2GB RAM M11x R1's that appear in the outlet, were some this morning for $509 refurb, and some with 250GB 7200RPM HDD 4GB RAM for $599. They are hit or miss, but it's the best bargain IMHO. Otherwise, I agree, if you're going to spend the $850 - $899, just get an R3. Overall a better performing machine. Not sure about battery life though.

I'm hoping with Ivy Bridge the M11x will refresh as an M12x. The 11.6" screen is just too damn small for me. I have a 12.1" 1366x768 screen netbook with SU4100 and GMA4500MHD and while some may say that extra 0.5" doesn't make much difference, I can tell you that it does. The machines are pretty much the same size too (m11x a bit thicker).

I loved my R1, except for the stuck fans and hinge problem. With SSD I hit 8hours of battery life, mmm so tasty. hahah I'm seeing even higher 3dmark06 scores with the r1, what's new with it? Better OC tools?

No, just hard mods of actual 1.73GHz or 2.0GHz CPU. And 0.95v (instead of 0.90v) GPU firmware flash allowing slightly higher clocks.
