While I was watching a movie, I notice suddenly my right speakers blew out. Now I have no sound coming from the right speakers. If I get it replaced, does the whole motherboard need to be swapped out?

No the speakers are separate from the MoBo but still will need to unscrew all the way down to the MoBo. The tech was telling me about it when I had my board replaced.

were you using it at the time? my right speaker went on my r2 as i was playing crysis, kinda crackled a little and went dead, al the tech tools in post said it was fine. so i had to have it sent in since they said it could be A; just the speaker b: a bad I/o board c: a bad mobo and would need to be tested

Yes, I was using it at the time. I was streaming via Netflix and all of it sudden, my right speakers no longer worked; I was aware of it because the movie I was watching suddenly became mono tone. The right speaker was working during the beginning of the movie. I did a restart on my R1 and when I tried using other programs like VLC/Winamp, it had the same effect; no sound via right speaker. The only thing that I can remember is after the restart when VLC was used, I heard a small sound (could of been a feint sound, a crackling noise, or popping noise) and that was it; happened in a fraction of a second.

I will call up Alienware as soon as my Dell 375 bluetooth comes in. That way, I can ask the service technician to install it for me as well since my speakers need to be replaced. For the time being, I will use my earphones. It works fine.

My R2's right speaker stopped working a few months back. It would only make a clipping sound at the beginning of any audio playback. On-site replacement of the speaker itself took about 15 minutes start to finish.

Mine did that too! I don't have warranty anymore...I am wondering if this means the Mobo is bad? Or did it just blow out from use...i normally listened to music as loud as it could go in windows 7.

If the right hand USB port(s) work then I suggest the MB is OK.

If you plugged USB speakers into these ports or you plug in some headphones into the 3.5mm outlets and they work... it's probably not the MB or the I/O card.

    (1) Wiring plug attaching speakers.
    (2) I/O board

Probably just speakers gone belly up.
