Hey guys,
I am starting to get worried with my M11x R2's temperature.
Whenever I play game, it stays around the range of 94 to 98 degrees Celsius.
I tried overclocking, which I haven't done for a long time, and it is maxing up to 102 degrees Celsius.
Is summer the reason or...? I am not sure whether I should ask Dell for another motherboard...
I had my keyboard and the motherboard replaced a while ago as I had problem with keyboard input problem of some buttons.

Most probs needs a clean and possibly repaste. -
Very High....here..OC at 160(now 150) the max temp is 83C...i live in Brazil and here is very hot...try clean u fan...
-
The thing is, the motherboard came clean.
I guess it is the motherboard heating problem then...
I am living in Hong Kong with temperature around 25~27 degrees Celsius. -
Sorry, that post doesn't help much. Motherboard came in clean.
I guess I will have to call Dell to replace my motherboard again...
My previous motherboard had temperature around 80~85 degrees Celsius but it had other problem.. -
They will most likely just repaste your CPU and GPU and not replace the mobo my friend.
If you are within warranty someone should come out to your house and do it for you instead of sending it off for RMA. It is pretty straight forward however should you decide to do it yourself, get yourself some ICD to apply or get the tech to apply it for you will save the need to do it again in the future as it is very thick and hard wearing.
Your ambient temps are high but I think your compound has degraded or been badly applied. -
I'm not talking abut the motherboard, i'm talking about the CPU & GPU and your air vents which are probably caked with dust. The most common cause of overheating in any laptop really.
also your CPU @ 170MHz is higher than i i ever managed to get on my R2, so that is almost definitely another cause of the heat. -
I have the R2, and I get around 80-82°C in the CPU when gaming, and here where do I live is very hot this time of the year 36-42°C (98-106°F)
I do clean the vents with compressed air at least 2 times per year, it makes a difference.... -
The tech changed motherboard with the fan so.. Also checked bottom base cover's vent.
There were some dust in the bottom base one. Hopefully this will do some trick.
I quit overclocking as the laptop now just shuts down itself due to high temperature.. -
I guess I should take it apart again to find those annoying dusts.
-
wow guys my r2 i rapasted it with as5 my temps while gaming are around 70 71 u really need to repaste it mohaa before it gets to hot also get a cooling pad to help it
-
Sometimes I don't get the reason of getting a separate cooling pad. It is suppose to be the job of laptop's cooler.
Basically this means that the laptop's cooler cannot do the job it is supposed to.
I should plan pasting something, thanks for the suggestion ! -
Well i rather be safe then sorry the more fans the better! just incase you game alot i dont mind a little pad for it but if its a hour or less i can just leave it without the pad but if it helps with the tempature i dont mind it and u shouldn't either if it extends the life of ur laptop u should try it out they are only 19.99$ compare to ur 1200$ -
Like many people have said, you need to repaste and clean out dust. I was having heat issues on my M11x R2 so I repasted and cleaned out dust and it made a 20c difference.

The laptop's fan sucks air in from the bottom and blows it out the back. For it to be fully efficient, it would need feet tall enough to give it almost an inch of clearance above the surface. But that simple isn't viable or practical.
So instead they leave it up to the user to dictate if they need a cooler if they use it for long periods on demanding tasks. Which is also why the Alienware Portfolio case (which sometimes comes bundled with it) folds up into a stand for elevated ventilation. -
I am in Hong Kong too and recently my R1 has been running a lot hotter than before. While I could take it apart and clean the innards, I am still under warranty and much prefer a tech to do it. Glad to see that they will do that for you in HK, what did you say to Dell?
-
I had my motherboard changed long time ago when the temperature was ridiculously high at idle.
They didn't even mention about pasting stuff but went straight for exchange.
I am not sure whether Dell Hong Kong will bother to do pasting for you.. -
I don't mind having my mobo changed. I just them to open it and clean it up for me. I don't doubt that I can do it myself, but since I did pay for the extra warranty, I might as well use it.
-
I don't think Dell will send out a tech just to open up your laptop and clean it. If they do, it will be the first i've ever heard of it. To them, it's either within operational temperatures and nothing's wrong, or it isn't and they will replace something to fix it. They would rather wait for it to break and replace it as a write-off than pay for a tech to do preventative maintenance - most "Dell techs" do not work for dell, they are Dell certified IT technicians working for a company contracted by Dell, every time they send one out it costs them $$$.
-
Yes, I know what you mean. Of course they won't send someone to clean the notebook. What I meant was because my R1 is idling in the 60's, it has become uncomfortable to use especially when I get up to the 80's when gaming. I'll just make something up and get them to replace it.
M11x R2 - Normal temperature when gaming?
