I know there have been other threads on overclocking, but I haven't seen a thread to consolidate this information for reference. I want to see what speed everyone is able to overclock their R2's to, if you can post your machine specs and OC speed.

    Mine are:
    M11x R2 - Core i7 CPU, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD Hard Drive
    OC - 154 MHz

Windows won't even boot at anything over 158 MHz and anything over 154 MHz gives errors in Prime95. 154 MHz is running stable so far, but I was really hoping for more.

swap your ram out with other sticks or if you dont have, swap the position of each RAM stick you have currently and you may be able to overclock higher. I went from being stable at 162 to 164 by switching RAM spots, but it may be higher for you. R2 users have to realize that overclocking GPU vis FSB also overclocks RAM.

I also think it would be more important to post your CPU-Z screenshots or post your stepping. I for one also have 154 Mhz limit, but I"m using 8 gigs of RAM. I have a C2 stepping/revision. How are we to validate the OC. I use LinX, which to me is the end-all, be-all to stability-testing, but there's no damn way I'm running LinX on my laptop for 24 hours like I would on my desktop (hell, I don't even do that). Some peeps aren't even stress-testing and saying their OC is stable because it hasn't crashed in windows yet. I think an hour of LinX would be fair.

OK Cubs, it's your thread, start a spreadsheet documenting the OC's, CPU Revision, RAM amount/speed/vendor, CPU temp at load and what tool used to stress it and what tool used to report temps.

Mine is nice and stable (24+ hrs wprime torture test, 3dmark and vantage) at 166, but as soon as I start playing games it BSOD's once and a while. So far I have backed in down a little at a time (at 160 now) until games don't BSOD anymore.

162mhz on i5, tested for weeks/months and stable. Since 166 goes BSOD at booting and 164 makes wireless dont work at all...

    166 Mhz M11x R2
I never have stress tested. I distrust that kind of thing and think it's bad for the machine. Just leave it at 166 mhz and have since the first week I got it.

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming. Max temperatures would also be helpful if you have them. My CPU has never gone over 70C, so I'm confident that the temps have nothing to do with my own overclocking limitations.

DanielNTX mentioned that he was able to get up to 166 after replacing his memory, so I'm wondering if the memory is the limitation for those of us who are on the lower end of the scale. It might be helpful to list what brand of memory you have. I have 4GB Samsung M471B5673FH0-CH9 in my machine currently. I'm going to try another brand of memory and will report back with my findings.

I am on stock memory and I have swapped the memory seating and it still does not improve my overclock. 148mhz stable. But putting in extra memory might help, i am not sure about this.

dont think so. there is actually not much change in the revision update. more like cosmetic stuffs. i have the same revision as Massive does but he can only go 150+ while i can full blast with 166 no issue. so no. i have always suspected the ram could be a cause but it was debated in the past before that it should not make a difference but really god knows....

Stable at 156mhz, torture tested for 24hrs with Prime95.

158mhz doesn't BSOD, but got me an error after a few hours in Prime95. Anything higher than 158mhz BSOD's for me while gaming. Computer won't even boot at 166mhz.

Core i7, 4Gb Ram, stock 7200rpm 250gb. Using Throttlestop too.

maybe applying new thermal grease will help? I dunno. I didnt do it on mine thou since it work that way from the beginning. maybe its the way Dell have sitting the CPU or something. Since that is one of the thing that can be inconsistent on every machines.

I see very few people actually stating they stress-tested their OC, but that since windows or games don't crash it's stable. They could also have a good stepping (K0). not enough information is being given.

Maybe, but I don't see why thermal compound would make the difference between my PC booting at 160 MHz or not booting.

So if there anything I can do with mine? I only boughty my m11x for a week! When I first got it, I was able to hit 166mh. Then I thought to myself, maybe I shouldn't boost it that high incase something bad happens, so I went to disable it. After some reading that it is safe to do 166. I tried it again but never worked. The system would reboot itself and turn off the overclock feature as soon as I save settings for a 166. Now I sit on 148...

    specs: core i7 (K0 stepping), 4GB RAM, 500GB HD

OC @ 166 (though CPUZ and TS report 167)

CPUZ reports a clock of 2839.8Mhz with a 17.0x multiplier

    max idle temp: 51
max idle temp (with laptop cooler): 49
    max load temp: 77
max load temp (with laptop cooler): 67

So far no stability issues for at least a week. Been gaming regularly on it for for 3-4 consecutive hours per day. I'm also in the "would rather not stress test" camp tbh.

And in my case, the OCing most definitely increases temperatures. At stock 133, I think the highest I ever saw it go was 68 under load.

Took about 15-20mins to disassemble using the service manual:

cool thanks, might have to try that out.. did you use AS5? it looks really easy from the manual the cpu fan is literally "right there" when you take off the bottom cover? pretty comfortable taking stuff apart as i've taken apart a 60gb ps3 and reapplied compound for cpu and gpu on that also. if it's similar i might as well try.
This won't void warranty will it?

    Running @ 166 OC,
Stress tested for about 2.5 hours while I took a nap today.
I should have ran it with TS on.

    i7 / 4GB RAM stock / 7200RPM 500GB stock

    I've been running @ 166 since day 2 or 3 of getting my M11xR2.
I've had it less than a few weeks, the only times I use it to it's full potential is running L4D2 or video editing. I run TS when I play games or video edit too.

I was using 162 for some days, perfect, but the only game that give me problems with that OC, is Halo CE, it frezzes at random spots in game, so I´m back to 160 and works perfect...

Got BSOD with 166 the other day, so I think I´m gonna use 160 now, maybe 162 when I´m done with Halo xD

    I have the i5, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD 7200rpm

Running 158 for about 2 weeks now. I have played SC2, Crysis, and Mass Effect 2 with temperatures reaching around 72-74C while gaming with TS on.

Idle temps are around 58C with TS turned off.

I think this is high but I could be completely wrong. I've hit 164 but it froze while playing ME2.

The GPU isn't overclocked at all and all other default setting are applied.

Ok, I received 4 GB of OCZ memory and replaced my stock Samsung memory.

First of all, Windows now boots with FSB as high as 164 MHz, whereas before I couldn't get over 158 MHz. I ran several Prime95 tests and found my stable OC speed is now 158 MHz versus the 154 MHz with my old memory.

Memory is definitely a factor in the OC-ability, but clearly it isn't the only factor.
