Hello,
I am playing the new Duke Nukem. I is a little choppy but the main problem is that it overheats. After playing about 5 minutes the temp sensors are up to 90C. When i play longer, the system just turns off.
It shows to use the dedicated graphics card.
My System is a i7 with 4GB ram and SSD.
Windows 7 64
Direcxtx 11
Graphics Driver is the nvidia 258.96 - is there a newer version I can install which works on the m11x r2?
Oh, and I uninstalled the "dual core optimizer".
Any help would be appreciated.

the game runs perfectly fine maxed out on my R1, if your temps get that high, its time to redo the thermal paste. also, are you using ThrottleStop?
and yes, go to the Nvidia site and download the newest drivers. if you want. -
No, don't know what ThrottleStop is - never had overheating issues before.. also haven't really played anything since a couple months. But CoD runs fine in High settings.
Should I do ThrottleStop? -
you might wanna look into throttle stop, it can increase processor performance substantially when overclocked slightly, or a heavier overclock. it prevents the cpu from throttling.

duke nukem is kind of a heavy game to play at higher settings, it works your gpu more i think then COD does. -
Since you are overheating, I would look at getting your temperatures down before you use throttlestop. Try using a laptop cooler, or use something to prop the back of the laptop up so there is a gap between the desk and the back of the laptop. Make sure the fan vent on the bottom isn't blocked and have the laptop on a hard, flat surface. If those methods don't work, you might want to redo the thermal paste like aj suggested.

Your R2 can't handle Duke's manliness.. Either that or you may have some dust in the fan exhaust.
-
lol if my modded R1 can handle it at max settings, im sure his r2 can handle it...
-
So.. I updated to the newest graphics driver(275.33) and BIOS A04(was A01) and vacuumed the fan.
Now it seems to only go up to 90, but not higher... The System won't turn off anymore.
So that's a good thing.
What would be a normal high temperature? -
The game is doing you a favor.
Duke Nukem Forever is kind of terrible. -
thats your opinion, i personally like the game a lot.
-
Booo, it's a shooting game that isn't CoD or BF it sucks!

From what I have read thus far, the problem is that DNF is more like those games than you think. It's linear, your health regenerates, and you can only carry 2 guns. Just substitute human soldiers with pig cops and add some platforming and driving and you've got DNF.
Had they simply remade DN3D with some new weapons, levels, and current graphics, it probably would have pleased fans better. -
Yeah, it's kind of disappointing, boring even. After waiting all these years... it just feels old, and not in a good, retro-fun kind of way. More like a 50 yr-old balding guy in a convertible trying to impress 18 yr-old girls way. :-/
Oh well. It runs fine on my system, guess that's something. -
i think the games good, the stuff duke says is funny
-
I am using 275.33 drivers for the R2. Gaming has never been better..I dont own the game, but try it.
-
Yeah it's got some entertaining parts for sure; I shouldn't bash on it too much. Just paid a lot for a game that kinds feels like it's from 2006
-
true, but i think they designed it to feel like an older style game. runs amazing maxed out too, and looks good. pretty fun if you have the right sense of humor =P
