I have a tendency to wear out the fan in my computer because I use it so much and this one is starting to go as well. Problem is, warranty is up so I am making due till I can buy it again.

Currently after a bit of playing a higher end game - TF2, DayZ etc. It will start to lag, as the temp is around 85 C, and the computer will start underclocking. I would usually fix this by forcing my fan speed up a bit and that would cool it off in 5 or so minutes and keep it cool balancing around 80C.

Today though, after it started underclocking it just stayed there. Even right now with the temp at 48C it is still underclocked.

As for the temperature I am looking into a cooling pad, someone in a different said that the CoolerMaster Notepal x3 was good and I am probably going to buy it later today to help with the heat. Computer could also probably use a good dusting.

Till then anyone got an idea with the underclocking? So far I reinstalled drivers and did general harddrive cleaning ( anti-virus,spyware registry cleaning, defrag etc ).

Have you thought about using some compressed air to clean out the HSF assembly if you have not done so already?

Or possibly re-paste the HSF assembly.

    Regards.

Ok this problem just got weirder. Apparently when I try to shutdown it takes a really long time then will bluescreen after a bit. I have yet to actually see this blue screen but after I turn it back on I get a message saying it recovered from one with these details.
I can put those files up if needed/

    Dead/dying RAM?

The clock speeds on the R1 & R2 AFAIK are "determined" by the RAM speeds, if your RAM's playing up it would cause blue screens and possibly your clocking issue?

So how would I test for dying ram? Also are the ram sticks in the m11x custom made for the model or just a normal ram stick?

Any 1333, 1600 DDR3 soddim ram will do up to 2x8 gb.

Run a memtest (at least 3-5 passes) and it should find any errors if there are any, you could also just try swapping out the RAM with any other DDR3 laptop sodimms you may have lying around.

It will take any laptop DDR3, and supports anything from 800MHz (what it's clocked at) to 1600MHz (will downclock to 800MHz).
