Hey guys,
I own a M11x R2 Core i7-640UM and was wondering if it would be possible at all to change the CPU for a Core i7-640M.
Im thinking the BIOS would have to have support for other CPU models but they are basically the same except the 640M has a higher clock speed and consumes more power as seen on this link.
Basically im trying to increase processing power a little bit more, and for a couple hundered dollars I think it would be worth it.
Has anyone tried this?
Take care!

This is simply impossible for Alienware M11x series.
However, I was able to find out that you are able to change the CPU to M11x R3's CPUs.
The problem here is that there is no real secondary market for M11x R3 CPUs yet. -
Why is it impossible? Compatibility issues?
I think the new processors run on a different socket, so wouldn't fit on the R2 slot. -
M11x R3's motherboard is exactly the same in shape with M11x R2 motherboard.
As a result, it is possible for an R2 user to change/upgrade by replacing with R3 motherboard. -

Ahh shame we can't put the GPU in there! Best of both worlds!

I thought I read somewhere the CPU was not soldered to the motherboard, guess not! Oh well.. thanks guys!

you know how many threads there are on this question? A LOT!
