    Hello,

After a few months of breake I decided to start gaming again on my M11x R2 i7. I downloaded Dungeon Defenders and after 20 min of playing the PC powered off. I was not sure what happened so I just powered it back on (thought the battery died first but it was full). 20 min of gaming againd and another power off. I went in bios and disabled overclocking for CPU since it was at 146. Started the game again and 20 min later the same story. I left the device of for 30 min thinking that it might have been to hot from the overclock and powered it back on, again after 20 min the device powers off.

I don't have the video card overclocked.

Any idea what could cause this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

    Thanks.

It may seem silly, but you dont happen to be covering the fan inlet on the bottom of the laptop do you? Could be a bump in your desk or your leg blocking it... thus causing a overheat and the system to automatically shut down to protect itself.

Other than that i have no idea...

call alienware support for replacement of a faulty laptop...?

Can you check the temps with hwmonitor or something while you are gaming?
Also try playing on AC power (not just the battery).

Bman2309, i had the laptop on a glass surface, nothing blocking the vents. however i put something under the laptop to lift it a bit so it gets more air and it didn't shutdown now.

moral hazard, i checked the temps with hwmonitor and for CPU it gets up to 86C (186F). For GPU it gets to 88C (190F). Is this normal?

    BitByteBit, I don't smoke.

Re do the thermal paste on your CPU and GPU if you are interested in overclocking and getting the most out of this laptop. The R2 does not put out a lot of heat unless the heatsinks are not making full contact or they are full of dust and dirt. If you don't want to remove the heatsinks then at least thoroughly blow out the dust bunnies.

This works like a charm, I was getting CPU temps of 82-85°C while gaming, I cleaned the vents, now the max temp I have seen is 77°C in my R2
