Just wondering what the limitations of the M11x R2 are, I've tried researching the specifics of the QS67 Chipset but couldn't find anything solid:

    1. Fastest RAM speed and highest amount of RAM supported? How many DIMM slots are there?

    2. Does it support only SATA2 3Gb/s or does it have SATA3 6Gb/s? If it does have SATA3 6Gb/s, does it also have fully working SATA2 3Gb/s backwards compatibility? (I know some don't work/are buggy)

Also, my M11x R2 is still 'In Production' but the specs list shows the ram as "4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 800MHz". It is really 800MHz (PC6400) or is it 1600MHz (PC12800)?

    1. The ram runs at 800mhz. If you put higher speed ram in, it will still run at 800. There are 2 slots and you can use up to 8gb.

    2. The R2 only does SATA 2.

I think mine came with 1333 ram, but whatever is in there will run at 800.

So 800MHz is really the fastest speed supported by that motherboard?

I believe it is limited by the CPU... or something to that effect.

I know in my desktop my Phenom was limited to 1333MHz, even though my mobo supported up to 1600Mhz. So the RAM I bought was automatically slowed to 1333MHz.

    For the most part, yes.

You can buy faster RAM (1066Mhz, 1333Mhz, 1600Mhz RAM), but it will run at 800Mhz. The reason I mention this is because you are not FORCED to buy 800MHz RAM. It is a lot easier and cheaper to buy DDR3 SODIMM modules in the 1066Mhz / 1333Mhz variety. Those will work just fine in an Alienware M11x R2 (albeit at 800Mhz speeds).
